Washington Mystics History

The Washington Mystics are a professional women's basketball team in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). Since their introduction in 1998 as one of the WNBA’s first expansion franchises, the Mystics have topped the Eastern Conference twice and won the WNBA Finals in 2019. The team was led in their early seasons by multi-season rebounding champion Chamique Holdsclaw and four-time All-Star Alana Beard. The Mystics reached their first Finals in 2018 behind the play of two-time WNBA MVP Elena Delle Donne. Washington returned to the Finals in 2019, winning a thrilling 3-2 series against the Connecticut Sun and delivering D.C. its first professional basketball title since 1978. Delle Donne won her second career MVP in 2019 while shooting the WNBA’s only 50-40-90 season, and teammate Natasha Cloud was named the WNBA Defensive Player of the Year in 2022.

  • A wonderful experience!!

by poohdrum on 7/1/13Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

I want to begin by saying I just recently became interested in the WNBA. I watched the college games and was so impressed with the sportmanship and dedication that I was really looking forward to going to a live game. Although being from the area, I wasn't too familiar with the Mystics players but I watched and heard about Mercury players Diana Taurasi and Brittney Griner and thought this was a perfect opportunity. I ordered online and got great seats. Other than the evening beltway traffic, the drive and parking was good. I was able to see the players I'd been hearing so much about and learned how good my Mystics are. I can say that now I'm truly a fan and I will definately be returning..

We had a great time. The game and my seats were everything I expected.

Team isn't very good. Lots of missed open shots, blown layups. Sloppy play. And this is the first time I've ever been made sick by popcorn. I didn't know that was even possible. Had to leave Verizon Center in the third quarter.

  • Good Game!

    by Raybuc2 on 6/29/13Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

Was an exciting game, one that the Mystics let get away unfortunately! I believe this was a Showcase game for the WNBA! Must admit Diana Taurasi is the "Real Deal"! As an Ohio State fan, was proud to see Tayler Hill play & have a good game! Mystics aren't that far off, just need a proven go-to scorer and be more consistent!

  • Great game!

Women's basketball is full of excitement. I think more people should support it. They deserve the same perks the men get.

  • Experience not good

    by Mom2ballers on 6/29/13Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 3 out of 5

Ticket prices are ridiculous! I can't believe how much is charged and the arena isn't anywhere near full. I'm glad we went to the game for the experience but I won't pay these prices again. There were young people sitting behind us being very rude and loud. Not loud for the right reasons! They helped to make the experience unpleasant. I have kids who love basketball so we were hoping to have a good time. We would have a better time watching the game from home. I really want to support the WNBA. Better ticket prices and opportunities to interact with players would be nice.

  • Great Game

This game was awesome! The game came down to the last minute and bad calls by the refs.

Could almost touch the players, our seats were great.

  • First time at a Basketball Court

by igounfazed on 6/24/13Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

I don't like sports, and I've never been to a basketball game. My mother has never been to a basketball game. I haven't seen my moms since about 2002. She's currently staying with me for a while, and I figured it was something nice to do together. The seat prices were really good for where we got to sit. And the event turned out to be a really fun time with my moms. She really took a lot from the time there, getting into the whole spirit of the game. Rooting for the Mystics and hissing at the Fever. She really enjoyed her time there, and that made the event all the more enjoyable to me. I made her a sign to display, and she showed up on the big screen waving it around. Only thing I don't like about the event is: Not being able to have a photo or video clip of my mother on the big screen. I've been looking for the game, to view it again, so we can share that moment as a spectator, and haven't found it.

  • Vendors??

    by SportsFan1234 on 6/10/13Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

I went to this game as a fan of the Minnesota Lynx. I understand that they were supporting the home team but we could not find any vendors for the Lynx. I went to the game expecting to buy a tshirt or some kind of souvenir for my team but was a little disappointed

  • Good View

    by Tee7806 on 6/10/13Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

The 215 section was a good view of the action. Nicely priced seat, wish I had gotten it cheaper, but $36 bucks isn't bad for a sporting event.

  • Exciting Game!!

by LadyBearsFan on 9/21/12Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

I was very excited to see a WNBA game in person!! My husband's and my trip to Washingon, D.C. coincided with a Washington Mystics home game against the New York Liberty. The seats were very close to the action which we loved. I have watched several of the players beginning in their college years as they would be playing the Baylor Lady Bears Basketball team. It was a very intense game with a close score. I will definitely use Ticket Master to book future events.

  • The Washington Mystics Rock!

    by Funflunky5 on 8/28/12Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

I took my aunt to a game at the Verizon Center and really enjoyed it. The team is talented, and the only thing that would have made it better would have been if we had ended up on the camera :).
