Washington Mystics History

The Washington Mystics are a professional women's basketball team in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). Since their introduction in 1998 as one of the WNBA’s first expansion franchises, the Mystics have topped the Eastern Conference twice and won the WNBA Finals in 2019. The team was led in their early seasons by multi-season rebounding champion Chamique Holdsclaw and four-time All-Star Alana Beard. The Mystics reached their first Finals in 2018 behind the play of two-time WNBA MVP Elena Delle Donne. Washington returned to the Finals in 2019, winning a thrilling 3-2 series against the Connecticut Sun and delivering D.C. its first professional basketball title since 1978. Delle Donne won her second career MVP in 2019 while shooting the WNBA’s only 50-40-90 season, and teammate Natasha Cloud was named the WNBA Defensive Player of the Year in 2022.

Best show, but defeat at home ! Sometimes, Mystics learn to make 3 (or 2) match points ..... Each times ... it's out of the circle ! But we love them ....

The game was pretty good. A lot of seats weren't sold, so I was able to move closer to the action. Mystics gams always have a fun atmosphere, very fan friendly especially for little girls. My daughters always have fun. The autograph session was a nice touch at the end of the game.

  • Such an extraordinary league of ladies!!!

    by NCStyle202 on 7/25/16Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

22 July 2016, was my daughter's and a friends 1st WNBA experience and they had a blast. Ticket prices were extremely affordable, and our seats were my best for any concert, sporting event that I can remember. We received a Mystics shirt from the hype team on the floor, experienced the free Chic-fila giveaway, due to an opposing player missing 2 consecutive FTs in the 4th qtr, and my daughter and her friend received two WNBA basketballs from a generous marketer! And oh yeah, I got to see Candace Parker and Co. Amazing!!!!!! I really love the WNBA and what those ladies stand for especially during these times we are living in! #Watchmework

  • Excellent basketball, lousy venue

    by 1basketballfan on 7/23/16Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 2 out of 5

The Mystics lost this one but they played very well. This was my first WNBA game and I was not disappointed. My eight year old son also enjoyed the game. To manufacture excitement, the Verizon Center resorted to what amounted to desperate tactics. The noise inside the arena was deafening. The decibel level coming from the overly loud speakers was headache inducing. To make matters worse, the school children that comprised well over 80% of attendance were encouraged to scream and make noise. Days later and I still don't understand why all that noise was necessary. It added no value to the basketball game.

  • Mystics game was good fun

Great fun, enjoyed game and performances. Food is OVERPRICED or I would give it 5 stars!

  • Mystics were awesome!!!

by Anonymous on 6/29/16Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 3 out of 5

The Mystics put on a 3 point shooting display that was beautiful for a fan of good shooting. They were tenacious and got the win over a good team. The event staff however at the end of the game rudely forced us out of the area in the middle of our family reminiscing about the game. I felt very unwelcome and will probably just enjoy the game with family at home where I won't be rushed to leave after they take my money. Thanks event staff for cheapening the experience!!!!!

Awesome game! The seats were amazing. I don't watch much basketball but the person I went with is a huge fan so we went. The game went by super fast (2 hours) and kept my attention. I didn't follow either team but it was easy to get behind the home team and root for them! We luckily got to sit in the season ticket holder section and those who come on a regular were amazing to be seated around. Everyone was friendly and knew each other!!

  • Awesome game! Amazing seats!!!

    by Cherrelle23 on 6/28/16Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

My mom and I are huge WNBA fans! We got to see our favorite team play and got great seats right behind their bench for an affordable price! Definitely a dream come true, I can't wait to see them again next month!

  • Great staff at Verizon Center

    by JVa2016 on 6/27/16Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Game was great as were the courtside seats. I purchased tickets a month in advance and 2 days before my travel to DC I sprained my ankle badly on a hike. The arena staff were great in helping us get wheelchair service from Guest Services and helping us to our seats, and being prompt in being there after the game to escort us out.

The Mystics need a new recuiter, I let my season tickets go because they haven't had or recuited any good players since Holesclaw and Beard left.the games that I attend now is to see the players on the other teams. the place was empty and I'm use to the Mystics wining the attendance banner what is truly happening.

  • WNBA was awesome

    by MP15 on 6/27/16Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Went to the game with my sister and it was awesome. Was also excited because it was Pride Night and they were raising money for the tragedy that happened in Orlando.

  • Fun Friday night activity

by thefaceofbeau on 6/27/16Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first event at the Verizon Center, and I really enjoyed it. My boyfriend and I enjoy watching basketball games in general, so it was great coming out on a Friday night to support the wNBA. We also very much enjoyed the between the quarter shows, t-shirt throws, and the camera shots around the audience. It was a fun night! Bottomless popcorn was nice

  • WNBA basketball is competitive!!

    by JLB12 on 6/21/16Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

The Washington Mystics are host of some of the best women's basketball players in the league. Washington DC is a great place to go see an event and the Mystics did not disappoint me at all. I would definitely go back to watch them compete with any other team in the league.

  • Great to see the Lynx in action vs. the Mystics

by debbiejoy on 6/14/16Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

Enjoyed being able to take in a MN Lynx game vs. the Mystics while in DC on business.

  • poor turnout for Mystics

by twkerley on 5/21/16Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 3 out of 5

This was my 1st trip to Washington, my 1st basketball game and my 1st time to see the Mystics. The game was great but what disappointed me was the poor turnout of supporters. Come on Washington get out and support your team! !

  • Good game and great seats

    by Mc4800 on 5/18/16Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

The seats were really close to the floor with a great view. The other fans were really into the team. I enjoyed the nachos and popcorn that came with the benefit of paying a little more for those particular seats.

  • Mystics Playoffs 2015

    by Einstein13JL on 9/23/15Verizon Center - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

This was a great seat at center court on the floor right behind the press table. Plenty of up close action and you hear the coaches as well especially when they are complaining to the refs. Included with this seat is access to a convienent restroom and complimentary snacks. There was a fruit tray, a vegetable tray which include asparagus as well as the traditional veggies, popcorn and make your own nachos with chili and fixings. Also, a beverage set up which had soda and beer, possible mixed drinks as well. Not sure on the cost. Nice feature.
