Wanda Sykes has been deemed one of the funniest stand up comics by her peers and ranks among Entertainment Weekly's 25 Funniest People in America.
Sykes was seen on several television shows over the past two years. This year she made a return to HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” starring opposite Larry David. In 2010 she starred on her own late night talk show on FOX, “The Wanda Sykes Show”. In October of 2009 her second HBO stand up special “I’ma Be Me” premiered. It was taped at the Warner theatre in Washington DC where she tackled topics like the first black president, gay cruises, being a new mom and aging. The special was nominated for two 2010 Primetime Emmy awards: Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Special and Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Special.
This July she can be heard in the animated feature “Ice Age: Continental Drift” as ‘Granny.’ In 2010 she was heard in the Fox animated feature “Rio” as ‘the Goose.’
Her first HBO comedy special “Wanda Sykes: Sick and Tired” debuted in October 2006 and was nominated for a 2007 Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Special. It was taped in Seattle and covered everything from racial profiling to gay marriage.
Sykes was seen in the feature films “Evan Almighty,” the sequel to “Bruce Almighty,” in which she co-starred with Steve Carell, the New Line feature “Monster-In-Law” starring opposite Jennifer Lopez and Jane Fonda, and was heard in the animated feature “Over the Hedge” for Dreamworks as well as “The Barnyard” for Paramount Pictures. She can also be seen co-starring with Luke Wilson and Uma Thurman in the romantic comedy “My Super Ex-Girlfriend.” Sykes starred and produced the Comedy Central show "Wanda Does It" where she tried various non-showbiz jobs. Her first book titled Yeah, I Said It, published by Simon & Schuster, hit bookstores in September 2004. Yeah, I Said It is a hilarious collection of essays touching on life, family and current events.
In the fall of 2003 she was seen on Fox's "Wanda at Large" which she wrote, produced and starred in. She also has a one hour Comedy Central special called "Wanda Sykes: Tongue Untied". In addition, she can be seen on HBO's "Curb Your Enthusiasm" or heard on Comedy Central's "Crank Yankers” as the voice of Gladys Murphy.
Wanda was born in Portsmouth, VA and raised in Maryland. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Hampton University. Her stand-up career began at a Coors Light Super Talent Showcase in Washington, DC where she performed for the first time in front of a live audience.
She spent 5 years as part of HBO's critically acclaimed "Chris Rock Show." As a performer and writer on the show, she was nominated for three Primetime Emmys and in 1999 won the Emmy for "Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Special." In 2001, she won the American Comedy Award for "Outstanding Female Stand Up Comic". She won three more Emmys, in 2002, 2004 and 2005 , for her work on “Inside the NFL” for Outstanding Studio Show - Weekly- Inside The NFL.

Wanda Sykes was absolutely fabulous. I hurt from laughing so much. Her opening act was also great too.
Wanda was extremely funny. I could not stop laughing, I laughed so hard I was in tears and my mouth hurt by end of evening
In a style all of her own, Wanda had everyone rolling on the floor. I laughed so hard that I was crying at several times! Definitely recommend her show!
As expected, Wanda was absolutely hilarious. She was a bit under the weather from bronchitis but still managed to have everyone rolling in their seats. An “A+”, I will go see her again in my area.
Although she claimed to be suffering from bronchitis, she brought one of her best performances to the DFW! The show was so funny and even in moments of silence from Wanda, many of the audience members were still laughing so hard. She left out a lot of alienating political issues, which made the show even better because she was using real life to relate to the audience. Definitely surprised by how funny she was live and loved every minute of the show! It was a great time and I would suggest that everyone get tickets to see her! Very inexpensive tickets as well!
This lady is hilarious. We enjoyed the show. She combines political and social issues in a way nobody else does.
Wanda just has a way of delivering her comic routine. She made my sides hurt. I keep playing her funny lines over in my head and am still laughing out loud the day after seeing her. We all need to laugh, and she's well worth your time and money to go check out.
Best Comic I have seen ! Funny , current, a true performer
Totally enjoyed her performance. She is whitty and wonderful, and one of the funniest comedians I have ever seen.
This show was absolutely the best stand up show that I have been to. It was sad to see the show end. I know the entire audience could have stayed much much much longer. I am already anticipating her return to the Dallas area. I WILL BE ATTENDING.
She could use a better opening act but once Wanda's on stage you're ready for her. She the one you want to see when things are down, she'll bring you up. She the one who says what everyone else is thinking but won't say themselves. She makes you feel like you're not the only one who thinks or feels that way and that's all right. Live, Laugh, Love, that's Wanda Sykes.
She was witty, interacted with audience and maintained a wide range of topics most of them brand spanking new for those that have seen her before this will not be a repeat of past acts. The laughs were non-stop. THis was a bargain performance they should have charged more for the tickets!!!
Wanda Sykes was INCREDIBLE...... I have not laughed this hard in YEARS!!!! And this is a time when we all need to be kept laughing!!!
Funny, funny, funny. The comedian who opened for her was hilarious as well. Would def. go see her again. Had a blast!
It was a good show. You don't get the same effect if you sit far. I recommend you sit close. She had good transitions. She doesn't go into a lot of depth on current events when she tries to relate them to her jokes so a little more depth would make the jokes better. it was a good night out.
Wanda was terrific - great material and delivery! Very funny, language not suitable for the CBS watching crowd. Great stories and jokes. I've never seen her live before, so this was a wonderful new experience with a top-notch comedienne!
Wanda's show was awesome. All fresh material since her last tour and topical. The crowd was quite a mix and everybody was laughing the whole time
This was my first time at this event location, but the 2nd time to see Wanda Sikes. The event location was great, the seating was one of the best I've tried. And Wanda, as always put on an excellent show. She is so very funny and has such a wittiness about her.
Wanda Sykes was absolutely MARVELOUS - COOL - FUNNY - JUST the very Best! My face muscles are still sore from all the laughing last night. She's just one of the best comediens ever. I hope everybody will go see her and support True Colors performances. Rock on, Wanda!!
