Wanda Sykes has been deemed one of the funniest stand up comics by her peers and ranks among Entertainment Weekly's 25 Funniest People in America.
Sykes was seen on several television shows over the past two years. This year she made a return to HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” starring opposite Larry David. In 2010 she starred on her own late night talk show on FOX, “The Wanda Sykes Show”. In October of 2009 her second HBO stand up special “I’ma Be Me” premiered. It was taped at the Warner theatre in Washington DC where she tackled topics like the first black president, gay cruises, being a new mom and aging. The special was nominated for two 2010 Primetime Emmy awards: Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Special and Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Special.
This July she can be heard in the animated feature “Ice Age: Continental Drift” as ‘Granny.’ In 2010 she was heard in the Fox animated feature “Rio” as ‘the Goose.’
Her first HBO comedy special “Wanda Sykes: Sick and Tired” debuted in October 2006 and was nominated for a 2007 Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Special. It was taped in Seattle and covered everything from racial profiling to gay marriage.
Sykes was seen in the feature films “Evan Almighty,” the sequel to “Bruce Almighty,” in which she co-starred with Steve Carell, the New Line feature “Monster-In-Law” starring opposite Jennifer Lopez and Jane Fonda, and was heard in the animated feature “Over the Hedge” for Dreamworks as well as “The Barnyard” for Paramount Pictures. She can also be seen co-starring with Luke Wilson and Uma Thurman in the romantic comedy “My Super Ex-Girlfriend.” Sykes starred and produced the Comedy Central show "Wanda Does It" where she tried various non-showbiz jobs. Her first book titled Yeah, I Said It, published by Simon & Schuster, hit bookstores in September 2004. Yeah, I Said It is a hilarious collection of essays touching on life, family and current events.
In the fall of 2003 she was seen on Fox's "Wanda at Large" which she wrote, produced and starred in. She also has a one hour Comedy Central special called "Wanda Sykes: Tongue Untied". In addition, she can be seen on HBO's "Curb Your Enthusiasm" or heard on Comedy Central's "Crank Yankers” as the voice of Gladys Murphy.
Wanda was born in Portsmouth, VA and raised in Maryland. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Hampton University. Her stand-up career began at a Coors Light Super Talent Showcase in Washington, DC where she performed for the first time in front of a live audience.

This was my first time at this event location, but the 2nd time to see Wanda Sikes. The event location was great, the seating was one of the best I've tried. And Wanda, as always put on an excellent show. She is so very funny and has such a wittiness about her.
Wanda Sykes was absolutely MARVELOUS - COOL - FUNNY - JUST the very Best! My face muscles are still sore from all the laughing last night. She's just one of the best comediens ever. I hope everybody will go see her and support True Colors performances. Rock on, Wanda!!
She will cheer you up. The opening act was pretty good, too
Wanda Sykes was amazingly hilarious! I enjoyed her freedom of comedy that I could relate to in my life as a lesbian. This was so, but she managed to keep her show universal, including everyone from all walks of life. Well done.
The show started late, no annoucement or anything. Wanda was sick she said virus from her twins. She however was still funny.
Wanda Sykes will make you laugh non stop. She had all new material and it was all hysterical!
Wanda was hilarious even with her bout of bronchitis. She was funny and told it like it was. She didn't pull any punch. Current topics were covered and in her own way she was honest and had us all laughing. There was a few slow moments but the crowd was not into her as much as I had wished. She bounced back and got on a roll. I was a little surprised at her petite size and her soft voice. Overall it was a funny, honest, and interesting show . Yes, I would pay to see her again just to see her when she was on her game (but I don't think she was off that much) and not fighting a sickness.
Opening act (Ted Robinson?) so pathetic. Then Ms Sykes took the stage and thoroughly disappointed my boyfriend and me. What a letdown.
Her show was incredible. Her opening act was not bad either.
Great show! She is absolutely hilarious!! The only negative thing I can say for her "True Colors" show is that I think she could have use some gay-humor segments. I must say that I was completely surprised to see that 80% of the audience was GLBT, it would have been nice for her to give back to the community that obviously came out to support her.
Wanda Sykes is hilarious! She's quick, witty, and has a magnetic appeal. Her side-splitting show is a must-see!
This is the 2nd time I have seen Wanda Sykes and she was (again) hilarious and worth every dime of seeing her in person. She is funny beyond words and even better in person. I would go see her again tomorrow night if I could.
Wanda is amazing! She is so funny and articulate. Her show was so up to date with what is going on and relates everything so well. I can't wait to hear from her for years to come on her new twins; should be some great material. WIll go see her again if she comes back to Dallas and tell everyone to go. She's great! I had seats on the 2nd row and Wanda is just beautiful in person; certainly does not look 45. I was at the show with 2 people in their 70's and they just loved it. Keep on performing Wanda! We love you.
Wanda Sykes gave a great performance as she talked about aging (although 45 hardly seems old), her pride in our first African American President (unless he messes up), and the challenges of having twin infants with her wife at this relatively late age. She touched on lots of things audience members identified with. People all around us seemed to be in conversation with her as they responded very directly with her take on life.
Wanda was outstanding. Laughed all night long. More than what I expected. I was only familiar with Wanda from the Tonight Show, so it was quite a bit more risque than what I expected. Would definitely see her again.
She made me laugh the minute she walked on stage. Her style is so unique and she just makes me laugh. She started off with a Michael Jackson topic so we knew immediately this was new stuff - not something she was going from place to place doing the same jokes over and over like some comedians do. She was on stage for well over a hour and I did not feel shortchanged at all. The venue was perfect - not too big. Her opening act was also very funny - don't remember his name but he was very good. I would definitely go see her again if she comes back to the area.
Wanda was awesome - she gets funnier every time we see her. The opener, however, was yelling into the microphone and the speakers were up way too high for him - he was funny, but I got a headache from his performance.
Could have not been more perfect. It was on a Sunday evening so traffic was very light, it was not to crowded. Wanda had new material touched on many subjects had us laughing the whole time.
Wanda kept us in stitches the entire evening! Best laugh we have had in a long time. My girlfriend laughed so much her face hurt! The bikini wax was priceless!
