Wage War in Concert
Wage War are the kind of hard rock band that isn't easily categorized. That starts with their influences: Although the band's chugging riffs and jackhammering drums take cues from modern music's heaviest names (including Slipknot, August Burns Red, and As I Lay Dying), the group are also known for pairing contrasting inspirations. Their brutal grooves often fuse hip-hop and metal in the way Korn is known for doing, and frontman Briton Bond's gruff, gravelly voice alternates with the more pristine melodic approach of guitarist/vocalist Cody Quistad.
Bond, Quistad, and guitarist/vocalist Seth Blake originally formed Wage War in Ocala, Florida, in 2010 under the moniker Empires. The trio, which was then working with a different rhythm section, even released an EP in 2011, The Fall of Kings.
After some lineup shuffling, the band changed their name in 2013 and, two years later, signed a deal with Fearless Records. Wage War's 2015 full-length debut for the label, Blueprints, and the 2017 album Deadweight were both co-produced by Andrew Wade and A Day to Remember's Jeremy McKinnon.
Deadweight especially illustrates their progression as a band, as it boasts more confident, emotional songwriting and variety in dynamics. In fact, Wage War continue that soul-searching on the 2019 single "Low" — a bruising song about feeling worn down by life — and via the 2018 singles "Johnny Cash (Stripped)" and "Gravity (Stripped)." The latter two are pared-down versions of songs that originally appeared on Deadweight, and they boast chiming guitars, restrained percussion, and delicate vocals.
Live, Wage War stir up ferocious mosh pits courtesy of Bond's commanding stage presence — he directs his low growls directly at the crowd to emphasize vocal power — and aggressive, thrashing playing.
Given this energy, the band are unsurprisingly road warriors who have done several stints on the Vans Warped Tour and opened for Of Mice & Men, August Burns Red, and A Day to Remember. Wage War are now ranked among the genre's biggest heavyweights, with spots in the lineup of the Sonic Temple Art + Music Festival and Welcome to Rockville 2019.
Amazing time great performers great place to be for sure
So I stayed mainly for wage war’s set list and I gotta say it was an awesome time. As far as the spacing of the venue goes, it is honestly fine. Didn’t get a chance to try out the bar service but I’m sure it’s fine. Overall though, concert was great!
All the bands were great. The sound was a little distorted where we were but it was close to the front. Very good show.
The best show that could have kicked off my 2024 concert season
I am huge fans of Nothing More but thoroughly enjoyed Wage War (First Time) and the energy they brought! Sleep Theory was as advertised. Great band moving fast! and first time seeing them live. Overall, great way to kick off my concert season! Fans/Crowd were awesome too, met some great people there
I have nothing bad to say, I had no expectations for the bands except that I would love them and they managed to blow those expectations out of the park especially Wage War, the venue was really close and just amazing overall.
This was my first actual concert and it was an amazing time. I would litterly go see these guys again and again and not get tired of it.
I had a great time Sleep Theory opened the show they were good. Veil of Maya wasn't really for me. Nothing More was awesome and played some new unreleased songs. I'm not a big Wage War fan so I left early after they played 3 songs
These guys never disappoint, and they bring the energy EVERY time! They are a class act and appreciate their fans - and it shows. Highly recommend catching them live 💜🤘
It was down pouring all day, and the staff did an amazing job making sure everyone got into the venue in a timely but controlled manner.
This is Definitely the best band out there . They put on an amazing show, have so much talent, and are great to meet at VIP. Music sounded absolutely perfect
I may be biased because I got engaged after the show!! it was amazing though had us headbanging all the way through. The place was jam packed so much support for this band we loved every minute of the show!
I’ll be honest, I didn’t know a lot about Wage War when I went to the concert. But it was one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to. All of the openers were fantastic and Wage War definitely gained another fan.
Wage war is one of the absolute sickest metal bands to perform. They sound exactly (if not better) than they do on their album. The Venue is perfect for people who want to mosh and for people who want to escape the pit. Will always come back to see them!
I live an hour away from the venue so I was unable to go because of the weather. I've seen Wage War before so I knew they rocked! I will see them at Rockville 24'!
What a great show from start to finish. From the opening aft coming out with guns a blazing to the headliner KILLING it with a 19 song set. Not a bad thing to say
The show was phenomenal, the standing area was great, however the info on Ticketmaster was pathetic. All it said was 6pm doors, that's it, I didn't even know other bands were playing let alone the length of the show or the end time. I almost was late for work as the concert went two hours longer than I thought it was going to be, would have been nice to know that or literally any info, ahead of time. Please do better.
Great show, huge energy bands were really really solid. Sounds was fantastic. Only issue is the venue line a lot of people missed AVOID because of the long wait to get in.
Not much else to say other than it was one of the best shows I’ve ever been to. Definitely the best of theirs that I’ve been to
The venue was terrific. They did not over sell tickets, so it did not feel unsafe. I highly recommend.
