Wage War in Concert

Wage War are the kind of hard rock band that isn't easily categorized. That starts with their influences: Although the band's chugging riffs and jackhammering drums take cues from modern music's heaviest names (including Slipknot, August Burns Red, and As I Lay Dying), the group are also known for pairing contrasting inspirations. Their brutal grooves often fuse hip-hop and metal in the way Korn is known for doing, and frontman Briton Bond's gruff, gravelly voice alternates with the more pristine melodic approach of guitarist/vocalist Cody Quistad.

Bond, Quistad, and guitarist/vocalist Seth Blake originally formed Wage War in Ocala, Florida, in 2010 under the moniker Empires. The trio, which was then working with a different rhythm section, even released an EP in 2011, The Fall of Kings.

After some lineup shuffling, the band changed their name in 2013 and, two years later, signed a deal with Fearless Records. Wage War's 2015 full-length debut for the label, Blueprints, and the 2017 album Deadweight were both co-produced by Andrew Wade and A Day to Remember's Jeremy McKinnon.

Deadweight especially illustrates their progression as a band, as it boasts more confident, emotional songwriting and variety in dynamics. In fact, Wage War continue that soul-searching on the 2019 single "Low" — a bruising song about feeling worn down by life — and via the 2018 singles "Johnny Cash (Stripped)" and "Gravity (Stripped)." The latter two are pared-down versions of songs that originally appeared on Deadweight, and they boast chiming guitars, restrained percussion, and delicate vocals.

Live, Wage War stir up ferocious mosh pits courtesy of Bond's commanding stage presence — he directs his low growls directly at the crowd to emphasize vocal power — and aggressive, thrashing playing.

Given this energy, the band are unsurprisingly road warriors who have done several stints on the Vans Warped Tour and opened for Of Mice & Men, August Burns Red, and A Day to Remember. Wage War are now ranked among the genre's biggest heavyweights, with spots in the lineup of the Sonic Temple Art + Music Festival and Welcome to Rockville 2019.

  • Nothing short of amazing

by J MONTY on 10/6/24The Andrew J Brady Music Center - CincinnatiRating: 5 out of 5

Such a phenomenal show. The opening acts were pretty good fame on fire and erra were great. Thrown was good but not familiar with them but enjoyable nonetheless. The brady center is a fantastic venue. The sound is one of the best in the area.. Now Wage War absolutely killed it. A fantastic setlist spanning their career. Hands down the best metal show I have been to this year and I have been to a lot. The sound amazing through and through. Can't wait to see them again

  • Best concert EVER!!

by Chloe (Wage War Enthusiast) on 10/5/24The Andrew J Brady Music Center - CincinnatiRating: 5 out of 5

first of all, Wage War + ERRA = dream team. I could not have been happier with this show! Wage War was amazing live and I can’t wait to see them again. I have no complaints about my venue and there didn’t seem to be any technical difficulties!!

  • Best Experience

by Kim H. on 10/5/24The Andrew J Brady Music Center - CincinnatiRating: 5 out of 5

I have been to a few concerts in the last few years and Andrew J. Brady is very clean and spacious. The seats are comfortable and you are able to see clearly even not being in the first row. I love how there is a snack bar and bathroom on every floor. The concert itself was great. Wage War was amazing! The sound quality at the event location was great. It is a two hour drive for me to go there and I would definitely say it was worth it and I would go back.

  • AMAZING

by Hopealicious on 5/22/24Old National Centre - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

I would happily see them again. Amazing show the, crowd was super nice to. The security guards are amazing and on top of their job, with helping crowd surfers and dealing with rowdy fans. I felt safe at this show. Wage wars sounds just as good love as they do in recordings.

  • Not a floor for moshing

by IzzyindaHizzy on 5/21/24Old National Centre - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

First metal show at the Egyptian. It was a blast and the bands were awesome. Saw Nothing More and Wage War. Moshing was involved but I had two issues. First, it gets extremely hot with the movement and there seems to be little to no circulation of the air in that room. Second, those floors are slick especially when drinks are getting knocked out of people’s hands (not that that was supposed to happen), and that combined with the movement is a recipe for disaster. My suggestions, let’s get some fans in there and a rubberized mat indicating an area to mosh to create a “safe” environment for all those involved.

  • Head banging from start to finish

by Tailgate Tom on 5/20/24Old National Centre - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Nothing More and Wage War killed it. Both played full sets. Wage War was absolutely amazing, hard and heavy, thoroughly enjoyed them.

great venue great people. only problem was communication between workers let general admission in first before the fast lane. it did not make us fast lane people happy. please communicate better.

  • Absolutely incredible

by Mike Swan on 5/20/24Old National Centre - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Great venue and also great bands. Every band on the tour killed it when I went but wage war especially brought down the house. It was an incredible show with high energy

  • Best First Concert

by Kya on 5/20/24Old National Centre - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first ever concert and it was an incredible experience to say the least. Aside from getting a bit hurt from all the crowd surfing above me, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I went for Nothing More and also enjoyed the performance from Sleep Theory (wasn't really a fan of Veil of Maya though). The 2 bands' stage presence was amazing and they put on quite a thrilling show for everyone and kept us all screaming with excitement.

  • ShipRocked alumni reunion!

by ShipRocker NH on 5/20/24Old National Centre - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Absolutely amazing show as expected in one of my favorite venues!

  • The band was amazing. The crowd not so much

by Cory on 5/18/24The Ritz - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

All of the bands that played that night were fantastic and performed so well. My friend and I really enjoyed all of the performances. Absolutely no issues there. The only issue was some of the crowd. For 1, if you’re 200 or 250 pounds, you really should NOT be crowd surfing. No offense meant at all, but you’re really taking away from a lot of people’s experiences by turning a good time into a workout, and you could actually hurt someone if they’re not paying attention. I was constantly having to look back for crowd surfers because I was worried about “the big ones”. 2nd, blue ridge rock festival has been the first and only shows I’ve ever been to the past few years so idk fully how crowds are yet, but I will say there are a lot of creeps in the crowd. It also obviously takes away from the experience when I have to keep dudes away from my friend that doesn’t want to be approached or obviously pressed against to catch a feel. Do better people. Control yourselves.

  • Good lineup and show! OK Venue.

by BlackWolf on 5/18/24The Ritz - RaleighRating: 3 out of 5

The Ritz in Raleigh is a decent venue. Normally, I highly recommend seeing a show here, but this time wasn't as great. The lineup for this show was fantastic! However, that being said the opening band, "Sleep Theory"was supposedly NOT allowed to set up a merch table/booth. I don't know why - if this was because the headliners ("Nothing More"and "Wage War") didn't want to share space, or if the venue believed there wasn't enough space, I don't know. But I do KNOW, that I WANTED to PURCHASE merch FROM Sleep Theory, and even hopefully get to chat/hang at their table for a bit - but, no table, nothing to see - they were ghosts and gone. There was enough room, they could have had a table. Nothing More absolutely kicked ass, and Wage War was fantastic too - but it got REALLY ROUGH with the crowd surfing during their set.

  • Always amazing

It’s always a great time with the Ocala guys! Great venue, great sound, amazing energy. Can’t wait for them to come back!

  • Wage and Nothing More Rocked!

by Twiggles on 5/18/24The Ritz - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

Sooo good. The venue was great. The crowd had good energy. Drinks weren't too pricey (for a show). I took my 14YO for her first show and she loved it!!!!

  • WAGE WAR!!!

by Concert junkie on 5/13/24GLC Live at 20 Monroe - Grand RapidsRating: 5 out of 5

I've seen Wage War and Nothing More both several times, and neither of them has ever disappointed me <3. But I feel like WW just keeps getting better every time I see them - especially since they opened the show with Stitch this time! I highly recommend both, as they are 2 bands I definitely don't want to miss, but WW trumps all for me.

  • Great show

by Kerry on 5/11/24GLC Live at 20 Monroe - Grand RapidsRating: 5 out of 5

Traveled from Pittsburgh for two concerts, Wage War being one of them. Very nice venue. No negatives at all

  • Awesome!!!!

by Brooke on 5/11/24GLC Live at 20 Monroe - Grand RapidsRating: 5 out of 5

Wage War was awesome! The only complaint I have is I was really hoping to hear Johnny Cash or Youngbloods but their set was awesome nonetheless!

  • Went to see NOTHING MORE, not Wage War

by Aaron on 5/11/24GLC Live at 20 Monroe - Grand RapidsRating: 5 out of 5

NOTHING MORE killed it and should have been the true headliner. Good venue. Opening band was meh

  • Outstanding performance

by Sy on 5/11/24GLC Live at 20 Monroe - Grand RapidsRating: 5 out of 5

Absolutely amazing performance! The reason I love metal shows so much is because they are affordable and the sound exactly like a digital recording when live and Wage War was everything I could have hoped for!

  • Great live performance!

    by Chris C. on 5/10/24The Sylvee - MadisonRating: 5 out of 5

Great show, band puts on amazing live show. Would recommend.
