Vulfpeck In Concert
The Los Angeles–based collective known for wild, freeform creativity builds off a foundation of classic funk and soul à la the Meters, the Funk Brothers, and Booker T. & the M.G.'s, then incorporates mellow R&B-inflected pop of ‘70s superstars like the Bee Gees, the Doobie Brothers, and Steely Dan. Most importantly, Vulfpeck's millennial constituents — drummer/keyboardist/singer Jack Stratton, guitarist/drummer/singer Theo Katzman, bassist Joe Dart, and keyboardist Woody Goss — infuse the band's vintage touchstones with unbridled energy and mind-bending musicianship. Performances elevate their every note into a celebration of groove music in all its forms. Vulfpeck concerts are typically showcases of raw talent, dance-friendly jams, and songs to sing along to. The number of onstage band members ebbs and flows, soloing, dueting, trading instruments, bantering with one another, and inviting guests to sit in. They often stretch out to five, six, or seven musicians while unspooling exploratory flights of improvisation or digging into whip-tight, hard-hitting songs.
Vulfpeck Background
The Vulfpeck story began at the University of Michigan in the early '10s, when the four founders came together to perform as a live rhythm section for an on-campus concert. Jack Stratton, a musicologist as well as performer, modeled the band's aesthetic after the great unsung backing bands of famous recording studios, including Motown, Stax, and Muscle Shoals. After graduation the core quartet moved to L.A. as a group and worked their way into the city's creative community, bringing along collaborators such as featured vocalist Antwaun Stanley and guitarist Cory Wong. They released EPs and albums on their own Vulf Records, growing their fame entirely via killer recordings and word of mouth about their live shows (as well as one attention-grabbing stunt that gamed Spotify's accounting system). In a short time, they've gained fan bases across Europe and the U.S. — big enough that 2019 sees them playing two of America's grandest concert venues: Red Rocks in May, and Madison Square Garden in September. Young though they are, the Vulfpeck phenomenon is just getting started.

Greatest performance by the greatest musicians I’ve ever seen in my life.
Such talented musicians, absolutely fantastic concert. Go see them if you haven’t yet!
These LA-based musical virtuosos delivered in full force at their show. From opening with sax/keyboardist Joey Dosik doing tracks off his critically acclaimed album as a mere opener, to cycling through all the great lead singers in the group throughout the show, they constantly kept your attention and reminded you why seeing a concert with true musicians is different than just a singer wandering around stage.
The show of vulfpeck is incredible, great musicians, great public engagement and the venue rocked, 10/10 would bang.
This show was amazing. There isn't really anything bad, show was great, venue was really awesome, everything was great!
This night was TOPS, well worth it to be up close where the crowd was standing and dancing the whole night. Vulfpeck gave their all, easily one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. The only problem we had that night was with the staff, this tiny blonde woman physically blocked us with her body as we were walking back to our seats asking for tickets. She took forever to check them and gave us attitude, they need to lighten up.
Vulfpeck are an amazing phenomenon - a bunch of white dudes who manage to jam some tight, funky grooves interjected by moments of joyful expressions of silliness. Their excitement is contagious and very entertaining - unlike any show I’ve been to before.
Always the best show. The members of the band are each individually so talented and have mastered various instruments on stage so they switch around during the show. They are funny, fun, happy, genuine, and of course musically gifted... everything you want at a live show. They also bring out guests often times.
Hey were wonderful! The bass player was off the hook!!! Their personalities were so much fun and they were all so very talented!!!
Well. I got PIT tix when they were first made available. I couldn't stop dancing for one. Couldn't... stop. For an LA audience, it was the most involved I had seen. Great show. Can't wait to do it again.
I really appreciate the impressive talent and high energy of all of the performers in Vulfpeck. I can't wait to see them again!!
Loved every little thing about the show and the venue
fantastic show. vulfpeck might be the only band touring today whose live performances are so much better than the recordings - they remix their songs, introduce band members as the come on, do improv comedy, get the audience to participate, and much more.
Vulfpeck May not take themselves too seriously, but you definitely should. This band should not be missed for any reason, especially given their minimalist approach to an east coast presence. They are supremely talented songwriters, performers, arrangers, singers, and entertainers. This was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen in my life.
This show every year is my Christmas. These guys are incredible in sound, atmosphere, mood, just perfection in every way. I would travel far and wide to get my soul filled up. The venue, Kings Theater, is beautiful. That being said, the sound quality left something to be desired. It got better as the night went on, but it was nothing like the other venues I've seen Vulfpeck in the past at.
Vulfpeck killed it. Beautiful venue. The show felt and sounded great all around.
I surprised my boyfriend for his birthday and got us tickets for this event. I knew nothing about this venue or band before attending and I was thourghly impressed by both. The theater was BEAUTIFUL, the staff were lovely and there were bar's around every corner. Sercurity was great, I felt extremly safe the entire duration of the show. Vulfpeck was BREATH TAKING. They brought my boyfriend to tears and seeing him that happy made my entire life. Thank you to both for everything and making our night unforgettable.
This was my second time seeing the band. The first was last year at Brooklyn Steel. As I said then, aside from Prince, that was the best show I had seen. I didn't think they could or would put on a better show, but whether it was a combination of the venue, Kings Theatre is like an opera house, the vibe, NYC opening night, or the love from the fans, this show was better. Their musicianship, obvious joy and love for one another, total lack of ego, are just some of what makes them great. You can't touch Joe Dart in the funky bass department or Theo with that falsetto. And as the bandleader, there is nothing like Jack Stratton. When Antoine Stanley comes out and crushes, you feel the energy. Oh, and the fans, the Vulfpack. Few groups of fans have the understanding, love and pure song catalog memorization to sing along note for note with bass solos. Except for the drunk asshole behind me who wanted to carry on a long drunken conversation about nothing during Beastly! Had a hard time getting past that. Best show EVER!
Danced all night with my wife at an amazing venue listening to amazing tunes!
They were amazing. Such showmen! Antwan Stanley is a beast!
