I used to attend VA International Tattoo every year. This was the first time I have been in several years. The last time I had gone the Bank was sponsoring it. This yearâs Tattoo did not measure up to the ones I had seen before in years past which were always very patriotic, inspiring, fast paced, entertaining and larger than life! I did not find that to be true this year. It was okay but not great, missing the mark on so many accounts. I had always enjoyed the bagpipers who were previously heavily featured, the military bands, the military precision teams, the varied groups from foreign countries who offered more in size, skills, and entertainment than this yearâs. Previously it seemed big and grand; not so this year. I enjoy the patriotic theme of a Tattoo, which does not include show music and rock and roll! The groups seemed smaller this year as did everything else. The city chorus was replaced by Granby High School chorus which did not have the same impact. Even band units and groups didnât fill the arena the way they used to. And the finale was not the Grand Finale of years past. It totally missed the mark for me this year. Disappointed for sure and not likely to return in the future. It is definitely not the larger than life patriotic spectacle it used to be.
