    Fabulous!

by Savvy Shopper on 5/3/22Scope Arena - Norfolk

Our granddaughter was a participant with the Highland Dancers. We thoroughly enjoyed the performance from start to finish! We are from Alberta Canada so this was a much anticipated trip, and it did not disappoint. We enjoyed the Highland dancers, the military bands, and the voice musicals. The band on the bicycles was just great too! We hope to return to this event I need the future. Thank you Norfolk!!đŸ„łđŸ„ł

This is a new every-year-thing for our family

by Thom on 5/3/22Scope Arena - Norfolk

WOW! What a show! This was a FANTASTIC evening! We were there for the NATO parade, the pipe band competitions during the day, and the show that night! We will be going back to watch this, annually!

    It was ok

by Rick on 5/3/22Scope Arena - Norfolk

We saw it in 2019 before COVID and was amazing. This year was ok. Maybe because of COVID they didn’t have as many performers as years before. Still was a nice show

    Best ever

by Walt on 5/3/22Scope Arena - Norfolk

My wife and I have attended almost every Tattoo since they began. I got very concerned a few years ago that it was becoming a rock connect with the introduction of several rock numbers that had no place in a military tattoo. But this one was on target. Definitely one of the best ever. Patriotic, uplifting, honoring our military heroes! Thank you!

Best Tattoo I’ve seen outside of Edinburgh, Scotland!

by Leslie on 5/3/22Scope Arena - Norfolk

Very well orchestrated and choreographed! A wide variety of entertainment...dancers, drill teams, bands, countries. Loved it all!

    breath taking

by wackystitcher on 5/2/22Scope Arena - Norfolk

Other than precision drill team competitions, this was the most awesome thing I have ever seen. Words fail me to diatribe it, but everyone should see it without a doubt. I would go every night if the budget would afford it!

    Tattoo on Parade

by Sue on 5/1/22Scope Arena - Norfolk

This performance totally exceeded all my expectations. The friends I was with were unfamiliar with this type of performance and enjoyed the entire show. It was worth the drive from Illinois to attend.

Great experience but choose seats wisely

    by D. V. on 5/1/22Scope Arena - Norfolk

We sat in section 122, first row. I though these seats would be awesome but they were just okay. They focus the show on the back of the arena, so that’s were everyone faces and where the dancers perform. For the best seats, sit across from “the stage” and don’t be afraid of higher seats. Lower to the ground means closer to the bagpipes and boy do they get loud! Otherwise this show was amazing and we really enjoyed the music. The show was about two hours and if you can, get to the pre-show, if offered. It was pretty cool as well.

Tattoo has a lot to make up for after 2021 disappointment!

    by T. R. on 8/31/21

We had attended in the past and loved the tattoo. We heard some poor feedback about the 2019 tattoo as we weren't able to attend. The 2020 tattoo was canceled with the pandemic but they held the international tattoo once already in 2021 in June outside at Kornblau field (ODU) to allow socially distanced seating. My mother flew in from Missouri to attend as she wanted to support something she had enjoyed in the past during the economic recovery from the pandemic. It was a miserable hot day (rained out one of the other days) and there was almost no international presence. Some odd acts were brought in from Chicago and elsewhere and one precision performance but the whole thing was lackluster. Some local scouts paraded around with some flags of different countries and a couple of high school bands from other US states played. Nothing international about it at all. The price per ticket was still just as high and the food at the stadium was awful and overpriced as well. Shame on ODU for not giving back to the community and state that supports it during this time. Now I see on ticketmaster here tickets being sold for and event at the scope again in fall of 2021 but nothing online or in the paper about it. Don't fall for it. Seems suspect at the least, but we feel so shortchanged from the earlier one that the only was we will attend again is if they offer free 'we apologize for not being a real international tattoo in 2021' tickets.

    A disappointing return visit

by Jean on 5/1/19Scope Arena - Norfolk

I used to attend VA International Tattoo every year. This was the first time I have been in several years. The last time I had gone the Bank was sponsoring it. This year’s Tattoo did not measure up to the ones I had seen before in years past which were always very patriotic, inspiring, fast paced, entertaining and larger than life! I did not find that to be true this year. It was okay but not great, missing the mark on so many accounts. I had always enjoyed the bagpipers who were previously heavily featured, the military bands, the military precision teams, the varied groups from foreign countries who offered more in size, skills, and entertainment than this year’s. Previously it seemed big and grand; not so this year. I enjoy the patriotic theme of a Tattoo, which does not include show music and rock and roll! The groups seemed smaller this year as did everything else. The city chorus was replaced by Granby High School chorus which did not have the same impact. Even band units and groups didn’t fill the arena the way they used to. And the finale was not the Grand Finale of years past. It totally missed the mark for me this year. Disappointed for sure and not likely to return in the future. It is definitely not the larger than life patriotic spectacle it used to be.

    song selections

by Jman on 5/1/19Scope Arena - Norfolk

Loved the first song and was worth the price of admission on it's own.The choice of some of the songs didn't fit the spirit of tattoo and were not what I want to hear at a tattoo. For example, Rockin Robin, Respect, Why Do Fools Fall In Love and maybe a couple more I've tried to forget. The performances were not bad but if this becomes a trend I feel Tattoo will have lost it's identity and my interest.

Music and Show Superb, Food less than Acceptable

by Dave on 4/30/19Scope Arena - Norfolk

We arrived at 4:30 for a show that began at 7:30.....that's because we wanted to participate in the festivities outside of Scope.....some of the same countries that would perform in Tattoo were performing for the masses waiting to enter the arena.....music, drumline competition, marching units etc....they were polished and enthusiastic. Food vendors were few and the quality lacking.....cold hot dogs and buns......under-cooked sausage....The show was worth the wait.....our seats were at floor level......first row up from the rail....the music was perfect.....excellent selection .....it was amazing to watch some of the countries combine on different songs and dance......there were storylines pumped out over the big screen....never a dull moment....two consecutive hours the pipes, drums, instruments of all sorts.....very well done....we're planning to attend in 2020
