About

For five centuries, the Vienna Boys Choir has entertained millions with their exceptionally beautiful singing. With a repertoire that includes favorite classical pieces, popular and contemporary songs, as well as lively International and Austrian folk tunes, they combine both the pure, angelic voices of youth with the power and polish of seasoned professionals.
With origins that trace back to 1498 (as court singers), the choir today is a very modern and forward-facing enterprise. For their February performances, the 24-voice touring choir's new choirmaster, Johannes Kobald, premieres an original composition he's written specifically for this tour. His Kyrie eleison combines modern elements of soul and jazz with the Gregorian Mass of the World. The piece highlights both the choir's heritage and the contemporary lives and musical influences of its young members.
An evening with the Vienna Boys Choir is an opportunity to witness a living tradition that stretches back half-a-millennia--as well as an entertaining concert experience of the highest caliber for discerning listeners of all ages.

  • Superb!

by DebraKC on 2/22/11Lila Cockrell Theater - San AntonioRating: 5 out of 5

The boys' voices were so incredibly beautiful and pure, we were in awe! It is amazing that such young boys sing so wonderfully and are so disciplined. I would definitely pay to see them again. The cost was at least half of most of the musicals that come to town and the show was every bit as enjoyable.

Very nice, San Antonio is lucky to have this concert, I wish more people take advantage of these. Thanks

The Vienna Boys Choir was fabulous. Their voices were so clear and pure. It was a joy to hear them in person. It was truly a magical night. I would recommend that everyone who enjoys hearing young boys sing, go hear them at every opportunity.

  • COLDLY DISAPPOINTING

The event was of supreme technical quality. For over 40 years I had wished to go see this performance but I came out absolutely disappointed from the event. I was about to leave at the intermission but decided to stay. I thought it could somehow improve but that is not what happened. It was absolutely disappointing because the children entered the stage with such a disheveled appearance – messy hair, wrinkled clothes, they were sleepy and yawning. Nevertheless, the technical quality of the performances was exceptional, none of the children sang from the heart; there was no soul there, they’re small machines perfectly tuned and perfectly “TRAINED” to emit pleasant sounds to the human ear. It is a shame. I do not recommend you waste your money in seeing these “small singing robots”.

  • SPECTACULAR

As a Public School Choir Director myself, this was wonderful! No wonder these boys have been the best for many many years! I saw them 20 years ago as a high school students and this was far better! Thank you for coming to Texas!

  • Great Performance - Incredible History

by HugeCCRFan on 12/20/10Lyell B. Clay Concert Theater at West Virginia University - MorgantownRating: 4 out of 5

Since 1498 the Vienna Boys Choir has been performing and this performance was very enjoyable. The 25 members of this choir, the Schubert choir (the full Vienna Boys Choir is divided into four smaller choirs for touring), with their choirmaster Andy Icochea Icochea performed for approx. 1 hour and 45 minutes. They sang a long list of international songs along with some American and European Christmas carols. The mix of nationalities of the choir is incredible including Austrians, Germans, Slovaks along with a member from Hungary, Bosnia, Russia, Japan and Philippines! The Choirmaster, Andy Icochea Icochea is from Peru adding more to the international makeup of the choir. His piano performance was superb and his presentations to the sold out audience was a great mix of information and humor. The only complaint was the volume. I understand that the choir does not use amplification but at times the volume was too low especially during solo performances in this sizable venue with a sold out audience. A very enjoyable evening of international music by an international choir.

  • Vienna Boys Choir

by pljagemann on 12/10/10Meyerhoff Symphony Hall - BaltimoreRating: 4 out of 5

Very good, especially for my father-in-law from Vienna. The slight downside was that it was on 25% of the choir (100 boys in the total choir, and only 25 at the event). The venue was nice, easy to get to, easy parking. I also thought their uniforms were a little too casual (khakis and white shirts).

While the choir itself gave an excellent performance, I was disappointed in the size of the ensemble and the lack of set preparation. There were decorative Christmas trees, but very little Christmas music. I appreciate the cultural exchange, but most of the music was folk music & very little in English, thus the obviously expensive program which I had difficulty reading with the house lights dimmed.

  • Expected Christmas program; was disappointed.

Expected Christmas program; not enough familiar Christmas selections.

  • Pure Vocals, Talented Performers.

These little men are professional performers and you will never hear some Christmas Carols more purely sung as you will by the Vienna Boys Choir. Magical.

  • The Vienna Boys Choir sang beautifully.

The concert showcased the boys' talent. A little more interaction with the audience would have made it more personable.

  • The Vienna Boys Choir is a MUST SEE!

by TheScarletPimpernel on 12/3/10Gaillard Auditorium - CharlestonRating: 5 out of 5

Before you die you must see this awesome performance. These children produce the most amazing harmonies, have such an extended range and a versatile repertoire. It all adds up to a most stunning performance. There are not enough superlatives to describe the incredible talent of this choir. Forget the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. These children produce a purer, cleaner sound and the do it a Capella. Their music ranges from Middle Ages religious hymns to South American folk music with real Peruvian and Bolivian instruments. Don't you DARE miss them.

I had anticipated seeing this performance since I had bought the tickets. My guest and I were amazed. The voices of these young boys had to be heard to believe.

  • Very Disappointed

by MikkiDee on 11/30/10Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - AtlantaRating: 3 out of 5

I expected so much more than what we got. I expeced a much bigger choir - what we had was 1/4 of the Vienna Boys Choir. I learned the 100 member choir tours in 4 different groups of 25 each. I expected a beautiful elegant set or backdrop with an orchestra. What we got was a Chorus Line type blank, dull black stage with a piano (facing the rear) between two oblong dull gray one level risers. I expected the boys to be refined and neat. What we got was a group of 25 tired (yawning) boys, wearing wrinkle clothes, untied shoes and mussed hair. There were a few exceptions. The beginning of the concert was not good at all. However, as the bos seemed to warm up - it did improve. Their voices are amazing, but again I was expecting more voices. With only 25 boys the projection of sound was not what I had hoped.

This was my first time to the cobb center. Parking was easy and security was great. There were plenty of ushers andthe hall sound was fair. I expected a little more Christmas Music and lot of entertaing for the whole Family. I was looking around and found just about every child either a sleep or bored. I myself enjoyed the music but my wife was disappointed not only with the music selection but not a single decoration for christmas in the Hall did we see. That our review 250.00 latter.

As this was billed as a Christmas event, I would have liked to have heard more Christmas carols.
