About

For five centuries, the Vienna Boys Choir has entertained millions with their exceptionally beautiful singing. With a repertoire that includes favorite classical pieces, popular and contemporary songs, as well as lively International and Austrian folk tunes, they combine both the pure, angelic voices of youth with the power and polish of seasoned professionals.
With origins that trace back to 1498 (as court singers), the choir today is a very modern and forward-facing enterprise. For their February performances, the 24-voice touring choir's new choirmaster, Johannes Kobald, premieres an original composition he's written specifically for this tour. His Kyrie eleison combines modern elements of soul and jazz with the Gregorian Mass of the World. The piece highlights both the choir's heritage and the contemporary lives and musical influences of its young members.
An evening with the Vienna Boys Choir is an opportunity to witness a living tradition that stretches back half-a-millennia--as well as an entertaining concert experience of the highest caliber for discerning listeners of all ages.

  • Lovely evening

by GaTechMama on 10/19/13Atlanta Symphony Hall - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

The Vienna Boys Choir was a lovely evening. Voices angelic,. Boys looked like boys anywhere, shifting & restless & nudging each other. Much preferred classical music to their renditions of modern works. Yes, we go again!

They were delightful. They could do it all, from classical to pop, from vocal to instrumental. A real treat.

  • Vienna Boy's Choir Not Polished for Primetime

by Barkboy on 10/19/13Atlanta Symphony Hall - AtlantaRating: 2 out of 5

The performance by the Vienna Boys Choir at Atlanta Symphony Hall was disappointing on several levels. First, due to the limited size of the 22 person choir, the vocals were swallowed up in the large hall in which they performed. We had no idea that when we bought the $69 tickets that the 100 boy choir had been split into four touring choirs. Thus, the mass/size of the choir was inadequate. My first thought is that they are more concerned about making money than quality of their performance by splitting the choir. Secondly, while some of the boys had good voices, several seemed very timid and at times did not even sing. It came across like a child who had been forced by his parents to be in a children's church choir against their will. Lastly, I took my 79 year old mother to the concert as she had always wanted to see the VBC. She is an accomplished musician and vocalist having studied and majored in music theory and voice. It was very disappointing to know that she did not enjoy the concert and felt it was a huge let down.

What a wonderful show! We left feeling uplifted and smiling at the memory of the boys singing choir classics and more contemporary music (include some gospel and pop songs). Go!

Very enjoyable show. The singing was fantastic and the choir master played the piano wonderfully. The staging and lighting was lacking.

  • Choir Boys OK

by RoyW on 2/15/13Curtis M Phillips Center for Performing Arts - GainesvilleRating: 4 out of 5

I missed the Choir Boys when we were in Vienna in the 70's and was happy to get to see them here; however I expected a larger group. For 24 boys they did a fantastic job and the conductor/pianist was great.

The young men were excellent! The purest sound you can hear and the pleasing joy they bring to the heart.

  • Vienna Boys' Choir

    by Ruth1947 on 11/9/12Balboa Theatre - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

I was very disappointed that it was only 22 members of the choir. This was my first time seeing them and I wanted the full experience. I do not remember any mention in the material before I bought my tickets that it was only a small part of the choir. I bought the cheap seats and because the theater was so empty I was moved down to a much more expensive seat. That was good. The boys were wonderful and I cannot imagine what the full choir would sound like. They should be very proud of themselves.

  • Boys will be boys

by Mumpsy on 11/5/12Balboa Theatre - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

Have always like the boy's choir sound and was delighted to finally see them in person. They did a beautiful job and it was a wonderful evening. What will probably stand out however as most memorable was a couple of boys in the front row, elbowing each other for position during their singing.....pretty much throughout the evening! I'd recommend the concert to anyone! It's amazing all the music they know from memory and there were definitely some very talented young men!

  • Quality!

by ABCDiana on 11/3/12Balboa Theatre - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

The Vienna Boys' Choir is amazing! They are impeccable singers, and they are a good blend of serious quality and fun! They sing more "traditional" songs (church music, classical music, etc), and also in this concert they did a few Billy Joel songs and had a surprise at the end! It's fun to see such young kids (in such an awkward stage of their lives) doing something really incredible. A great opportunity that I would highly recommend.

  • Wonderful performance~

    by celest128 on 11/3/12Balboa Theatre - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

It was a wonderful show performed by the Haydnchor group of the Vienna Boy's Choir. The group was a bit smaller than I expected (22 boys), no symphony, just their choirmaster conducting and playing the piano as accompaniment. However, they sang a wonder collection of Medieval Imperial Church music, Baroque, Contemporary and also a collection of Vienna's folk music. I would see them again if they ever visit San Diego in the future.

  • Loved it!

by NAUdance on 11/3/12Balboa Theatre - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

We saw the Vienna Boys' Choir at Mass on Christmas Day in Vienna last year. They were amazing! It was great to see them again right here in San Diego. Even our eight-year-year old daughter loved it! The Billy Joel songs were quite a treat in addition to all of the other Vienna-themed composers past and present.

  • Vienna Boys Choir--a treat and honor to be there

by Carcy on 10/30/12Flint Center - CupertinoRating: 4 out of 5

The kids were amazing, especially considering they really are just young kids. Clear, beautiful, blended tones. I liked the fact that they had some soloists, kids as muscians, and featured singers. They added a needed variety to the performance. I kept wishing I could hear them inside of a cathedral rather than in Flint Center--not a complaint--just thinking about how great the sound would be in a cathedral. I'll look forward to that on a trip to Europe. In the meantime, I felt very fortunate to experience the accomplishments of these young boys and men.

I took my dad to see this group live because he has always bought the DVD's. The group is extremely talented! There were even moments of humor on stage! My dad had the time of his life. I would definitely recommend this event.
