Five time Grammy Award winner Victor Wooten has been heralded as "the Michael Jordan of the bass" and "one of the most fearless musicians on the planet." His talent has led to invitations to record and perform with such luminaries as Bootsy Collins, Branford Marsalis, Keb Mo, Chic Corea, The Dave Matthews Band and the legendary Moroccan group Nass El Ghiwane, to name just a few. He is also a founding member of the super-group Béla Fleck and the Flecktones.
Gerrard Allman Presents is proud to announce the return of Victor Wooten to Australia for a run of headline shows in May and June 2023. In an Australian first, Victor will be performing with his band of (literal) brothers – The Wooten Brothers. Joseph (keys / vocals), Roy (percussion/vocals) and Regi (guitar/vocals).
For over four decades The Wooten Brothers have been recognised as some of the most innovative musicians in existence and are collectively known as one of the most talented and dynamic band of brothers the world has ever known. Since they were young, the five brothers (Rudy – a saxophonist, sadly passed away in 2010) have been a musical tour-de-force redefining the limits of jazz, funk, soul, R&B, rock and bluegrass. Sons of military parents, the boys early years were spent living in Hawaii, California and Virginia – where they shared the stages with the likes of Curtis Mayfield, The Temptations, and many others. In the mid-1980s, the brothers released an album as The Wootens for Clive Davis’ Arista Records.
Kicking off with 2 shows at Melbourne’s Memo Music Hall on Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 May, the tour also takes in Adelaide’s The Gov on May 26, Freo Social Club in WA on May 27, Sydney’s Manning Bar on May 30 and Lizotte’s Newcastle on May 31 before finishing up at Brisbane’s Princess Theatre on June 1. Tickets to all shows are on sale now. Don’t miss.

Great musical event with new music, clear commitment to the art and show was engaging every single moment!
Victor Wooten was awesome! I always enjoy his concerts! Listening to him and the other musicians...this show is phenomenal. The rapport between him and his musicians is great. It's like they've been playing together for years. And I loved how they switched instruments in between the concert...simply amazing! If you haven't been before, you don't know what you're missing! I can listen to him play all day. I can't wait for his new CD!!
Great concert. Every player in the band was great, and the vocalist was awesome. A must see.
The show was over the top! Not your typical Spinal Tap show, for sure! The combination of talented bassists sharing the stage made you actually forget they were all playing bass (most of the time), Combined with some trumpet, occasional trombone, guitar, and keyboard along with 2 amazing drummers in support of singer, Crystal Peterson, this was a show not to miss! Creative and innovative are just a few words that come to mind. This young lady has the voice of an angel, and a range to rival the likes of Mariah Carey.
What a surprise! Some of the most talented musicians I have seen/heard in a very long time. Each member had a unique skill level that surpassed the above average musician and together made for incredible music.
The ensemble of four bass players and two drummers was unbelievable. As a bass player I heard the music and saw it played and still could not believe what I saw. The singer was excellent also. This is not the first time I have seen Victor Wooten play, but it may have been the best I have ever seen him play. Steve Bailey on the six string fretless was sick.... Overall a great show that lasted 2 1/2 HOURS!!
What a great show what a great band what an amazing experience. I have been a fan for a long time but this is my first time getting to see Victor live. I was not disappointed!
This was easily one of the best performances I have seen in a long while. Thank you Victor Wooten, and your band, for sharing your gifts and talents with the world.
What can you say??? School Days was amazing!!! One of the best concerts I've ever been to, and that's saying something -- been a concert goer since the 70s.
The music was incredible. Victor put on a great show. Stanley Clarke showed of some amazing skills. Very glad to see such talent. However- the venue sucked. Normally the venue has tables to sit at to enjoy a meal. However, with any prior notice (to many peoples surprise) the tables were not there. I spoke to many unhappy people throughout the show. At the very least the venue should of posted that this was a standing room only show. And top of that-the staff I encountered (besides the bar staff) were rude. I would think twice before I go to another show there.
Wow. This show was spectacular. Wooten and Clarke were phenomenal. They played separately and then did a number together. It felt like going to two shows all in one. The venue was great too, we got there extra early to get seats. Wooten came out into the crowd to listen to Clarke when he performed, really down to earth musician. The music was moving, the talent was immense. Beautiful, hands down one of the best performances I have ever seen.
Wooten and Stanely are the epitome of talented!!!!!!
Loved Victor Wooten's opening show at the Royale. He played a great set of his classics including some of the layered bass solo work that I remember from the late 80's. He and his brothers and the drummer are virtuosic to a fault and very cool. I was less fond of Stanley Clarke's band. I loved the previous album he recorded with Hiromi and Lenny White. The tunes he played at the start of this show were a little more prog which wasn't really what I was expecting. The venue is a little bit of a dive in a grand old building. Despite recent renovations it feels like it's still a bit of a mess. They didn't even bother to line up the wall paper on the walls of the bar. I'd go again though.
Wooten and Clarke mesmerized the the sophisticated crowd and reduced all the bass aficiandos to a gigggling mass of exhiliration. My son and I strengthened our bond from soaking in the pure virtuosity and sharing this amazing experience. The event made a permanent implant on my memory banks. .
Victor Wooten and Stanley Clarke are two of the greatest bass players to have ever walked the planet. They were both unbelievable. All members of both bands were virtuosos as well. It was high-quality music all night. I particularly enjoyed Victor's band referencing Led Zeppelin, Michael Jackson and others. That was very cool. Stanely ripped on his electric for sure but it was amazing what he could do with his acoustic bass. Other than having to stand all night it was one of the best concerts that I have ever attended and the ticket price was a bargain considering the talent level.
Wooten and Clark are great individually and together. I was looking forward to this event, and had gone to some trouble to make sure everything was smoothed out ahead of time. Stood outside in the cold for 2 hours before the show, after we got inside the door they announce that it was standing room only. As a senior citizen, adding 4 hours to the two hours already endured simply was not possible. We would have sold the tickets had we know this was even a possibility. BB Kings has a very shakey reputation, add my vote of no confidence. Stay away, if you are a fan, especially if you are a performer.
Two of the best bass players in the world. As always The Victor Wooten and his brothers were incredible. Victor also had a fantastic drummer No one plays a standup bass like Stanley. Stanley had a fantastic group of young musicians in his band. Once I heard them I understood why the band won a Grammy. These guys are a must see.
The show was amazing. Both bands left me speechless. The quality of music and talent these guys had was something to see. As far as bass playing is concerned....sick is all I can say. Great night overall.
What a treat to see these guys in such an intimate venue! Victor Wooten, his two broothers and the band opened the show. Their family talent was outstanding! Then Stanley Clarke performed and showed what the master could do! Still pounding the bass at 60 years old! He brought up Lenny White, to play A Song for John with him, which was a great surprise.
Took my 14 year old, arrived 5 minutes before and had no problems getting in. We slowly squeezed up to the front and ended up 3 feet away from Stanley Clark. Awesome and inexpensive experience. Sound could be a decibel lower to avoid distortion. We will never forget. But, dont expect to sit on a chair! Its standing room only if you want to see anything!
