About

Five time Grammy Award winner Victor Wooten has been heralded as "the Michael Jordan of the bass" and "one of the most fearless musicians on the planet." His talent has led to invitations to record and perform with such luminaries as Bootsy Collins, Branford Marsalis, Keb Mo, Chic Corea, The Dave Matthews Band and the legendary Moroccan group Nass El Ghiwane, to name just a few.  He is also a founding member of the super-group Béla Fleck and the Flecktones.

Gerrard Allman Presents is proud to announce the return of Victor Wooten to Australia for a run of headline shows in May and June 2023.  In an Australian first, Victor will be performing with his band of (literal) brothers – The Wooten Brothers. Joseph (keys / vocals), Roy (percussion/vocals) and Regi (guitar/vocals).

For over four decades The Wooten Brothers have been recognised as some of the most innovative musicians in existence and are collectively known as one of the most talented and dynamic band of brothers the world has ever known. Since they were young, the five brothers (Rudy – a saxophonist, sadly passed away in 2010) have been a musical tour-de-force redefining the limits of jazz, funk, soul, R&B, rock and bluegrass.  Sons of military parents, the boys early years were spent living in Hawaii, California and Virginia – where they shared the stages with the likes of Curtis Mayfield, The Temptations, and many others.  In the mid-1980s, the brothers released an album as The Wootens for Clive Davis’ Arista Records.

Kicking off with 2 shows at Melbourne’s Memo Music Hall on Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 May, the tour also takes in Adelaide’s The Gov on May 26, Freo Social Club in WA on May 27, Sydney’s Manning Bar on May 30 and Lizotte’s Newcastle on May 31 before finishing up at Brisbane’s Princess Theatre on June 1.  Tickets to all shows are on sale now.  Don’t miss.

  • Victor and Stanley tremendous combination

by Dragulon on 3/27/11B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

The show was over the top. Great performances by both bass players and their respective bands. Guest artist Lenny White played with Stanley before the big finale of School Days with both bassists.

  • Victor is on a whole other level

by Caiaphas on 3/27/11B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Saw victor Wooten perform for the first time and I was thoroughly impressed. I had seen the YouTube vids and knew what to expect but there is nothing like experiencing the performance in person. The cool part was his band were comprised of 2 of his brothers. I strongly recommend checking him. Bty those guys are no slouches either!

  • BB King's Club is no longer on my list

by Danaisle on 3/27/11B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New YorkRating: 1 out of 5

My husband and I are fans of Stanley Clarke and we have seen shows at BB King's a number of times in the past. We always enjoyed it. This time, it became clear that the owners of BB King's have discovered that by removing tables, they can stuff more people into the club standing up than by serving dinner to patrons somewhat comfortably seated. We arrived at 7 pm and saw that the majority of tables we had seen at prior performances had been removed and only a select few were already seated and dining. We found a spot at the bar (where you can't sit either). We ordered a round of expensive drinks and dinner ($17 burgers). Our dinner took an hour to come out and the order was not filled as requested, either. Meanwhile, the place filled up to the point where you couldn't even see the screens, let alone the stage (and my husband is 6' 8"!) We were constantly being jostled by the crowd. Victor Wooten took the stage at 8, and by 9:30, there was STILL no sign of Stanley Clarke. We left in disgust and we will NOT be back.

  • Victor Wooten and his gang were incredible!

Victor was excellent, Stanley's band was great and he still does magic on the string bass

  • Victor & Stanley were a musical "HIGH" for me !

by JeanmarieMartin on 3/26/11Royale Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

This is the first concert that was in a nice place, didn't have t stand all night and the music, well the music was just like being in "heaven"... The sound from both bands were fresh, funky, soulful and just AMAZING... I plan on posting on of the many videos that I took... Great music, very nice venue !

  • The Wooten Family

by WMSigEp on 3/26/11Royale Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

This was amazing. Between sets I asked me buddy how in the Hell Stanley Clarke was going to top Vic. An hour later I knew. Both bands were straight up awesome!

  • Stanley Clarke/Victor Wooten Bands

by fclefguy on 3/26/11Royale Boston - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

The Victor Wooten Band mixed it up showcasing the talents of Vic and his brother Don on keys and brother Reggie on guitar along with drummer Derrico Watson...fantastic musicians and groove meisters! The Stanley Clarke Band were at there fusion/funk best but it was Stanley on acoustic bass that was most impressive! When Victor joined The Stanley Clarke Band for "School Daze"...2 of the finest electric bassists of all time did not disappoint! The General Admission of the venue, The Royale, left alot to be desired as far as comfort. Drafty and without seating....uncomfortable. The upper balcony was closed off for this show and I couldn't help but wonder why...it's where the seats were! Still....a fantastic show!

  • Victor was awesome

by May34 on 3/25/11Water Street Music Hall - RochesterRating: 4 out of 5

Absolutely loved Victor and his band. Amazing to watch (how can their hands move SO fast?) and listen to. This was my 4th time seeing them in Rochester and will keep going every time! Stanley Clark Trio was good, but too loud for my ears!

  • Victor Wooten : Stanley Clarke Trio - Unrivaled

by Anonymous on 3/23/11Water Street Music Hall - RochesterRating: 5 out of 5

Arguably the two best bassists alive put on a show not to be missed! You could hear the joy in every single note played by The Victor Wooten Band. And The Stanley Clarke Trio oozed coolness. Stanley made sounds from a stand up bass that I didn't know were possible!

  • To much bass

by mountainjack on 3/23/11Water Street Music Hall - RochesterRating: 4 out of 5

Obviously if you're going to hear Victor and Stanley you're going to love the 'bass', however - someone overmiked the bass drum in Stanley's set, to the extent that, even with ear plugs we had to leave before the set ended. All were top musicians but the over amped bass drum spoiled the second half.

  • The Masters at their Craft

    by psychbass on 3/21/11Potawatomi Casino/Northern Lights Theater/Expo Center - MilwaukeeRating: 5 out of 5

This show was incredible. I've seen each of these artists separately a number of times, but this show was the one of the better Wooten shows and the best Stanley show I've seen. (Including the Clarke /Duke project show where I got to strum Stanley's Bass for a few seconds) The young players that Stanley has assembled for this project seem to inspire him to a level that matches their energy. Drummer Ronald Bruner, Jr. is a phenom. I also liked Stanley's acoustic work. They played a Return to Forever tune that brought back the memories.

  • The Bass Gods

    by Arejay52 on 3/21/11The Ark - Ann ArborRating: 5 out of 5

Both shows were indredible, the level of musicianship was off the charts..Victor was 1st w/his brothers on Keys & guitar ,& Derico Watson on drums, the grooves they would hit..man amazing....Stanley had 2 keys, guitar & Ron Bruner on Drums..they took it to another level..he played a mix of old & new, & the classic School Days (whew!!!). He played electric, upright & did some bowing on the upright. He is the only bass player that is profecient on all 3. Bass God omnipotent..Great, great show. go & check it out.

  • Perfect combination of flash and sophistication

by ToddFromDetroit on 3/21/11The Ark - Ann ArborRating: 5 out of 5

Both acts are very entertaining and showcase spectacular musicianship. Victor Wooten pushes the limits for the thing we call music. He arranges time and rhythm the way traditional band leaders arrange melodies and harmonies. Stanley's performance was outstanding. All top notch musicians.

  • One of the best shows ever

    by CB1Bassman on 3/21/11The Ark - Ann ArborRating: 5 out of 5

Two legendary bassist on one stage in an intimate venue. The music was amazing. The Victor Wooten Band was of the hook great music and great show.

  • Victor and Stanley know how to please the crowd

by KelleM on 3/21/11The Ark - Ann ArborRating: 5 out of 5

The Ark in Ann Arbor is a fantastic venue with not a single bad seat to be found. Victor's band and Stanley Clarke took time to sign autographs and meet with their fans. I would definitely see another show at The Ark and I would definitely see Victor and/or Stanley play again!
