About

VANILLA ICE IN CONCERT:

From his days as one of the world's most famous rappers  to his reemergence as a genre-spanning rocker, Vanilla Ice has remained a consummate showman. The iconic flattop haircut and American flag warm-up suit of his "Ice Ice Baby" period may be gone, but the fire and energy that made him famous still abound at his electrifying live shows where he takes the stage alongside an inflatable grim reaper and launches buckets of confetti into the audience. The addition of a live drummer ensures that Ice's beat-heavy sound is bigger than ever on his must-see tours, where he treats ticket buyers to his hip-hop classics as well as recent fan favorites like "Turn It Up".

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Dallas-born Vanilla Ice, a.k.a. Robert Matthew Van Winkle, grew up influenced by hip-hop culture, taking up breakdancing in his teens and battle rapping at parties a few years later. In the late '80s he began performing regularly with his DJ and crew at a Dallas night club called City Lights, where he warmed up the stage for a variety of high-profile acts including N.W.A., Public Enemy, and MC Hammer. Ice made his recording debut in 1990 with "Ice Ice Baby", the lead single from his first album To the Extreme. The song was an international phenomenon, skyrocketing to No. 1 on charts around the world and establishing him as the first rapper to top the Billboard Hot 100. Several more hit singles followed including "Play That Funky Music" and "Cool as Ice (Everybody Get Loose)", but by the mid-'90s his star waned as he struggled with addiction and a grueling tour schedule. He returned to the spotlight in 1998 with the nu metal album Hard to Swallow, and has since dabbled in genres as far-ranging as country and techno on albums like 2001's Bi-Polar and 2011's W.T.F. (Wisdom, Tenacity, and Focus). Ice continues to entertain with his diverse sound and inimitable showmanship on his unforgettable tours.

Vanilla Ice was awesome! You could tell how much he appreciated performing and that made the concert 100% better!! He really interacted with the fans. Young MC, Tone Loc, and Coolio did a great job! It was a real gangsta's paradise! Kick it one time boyyyyyyy

  • It was great until the end...

    by Jennchilada619 on 8/10/21Crossroads Arena - CorinthRating: 4 out of 5

The concert was great until the end! Young MC, Tone Loc, Coolio, and Vanilla Ice put on a great show! But then Vanilla Ice brought out 30 drunk women from the floor to come up stage and dance to music while the rest of the concert goers watched. How boring. It wasn't even as Vanilla Ice sang along, it was to recorded music for approximately thirty minutes, and then the show was over. If I had known that was how the show was ending, I would have left after Vanilla Ice finished his last song. My club days ended twenty years ago, and the last thing I want to do is pay to watch drunken women make fools of themselves on stage. I paid to see my teenage musical idols perform, not that garbage. It seemed like a cheap way to fill time.

The concert was get. The number of alcoholic beverages should be limited. I got alcohol poured on me several times. Better security checks need to be done. I seen people with knives, brass knuckles, and glass bottles they were pulling from their clothes. Last but not least some a/c turned on.

It would have been nice to have more 90s singers. Overall it was fun to see them perform.

  • Old School Fun

by Snowman on 1/20/20Mohegan Sun Arena - UncasvilleRating: 4 out of 5

The show was a lot of fun. The arena was great. It was a great crowd with lots of energy. I would absolutely go to another 90's House Party concert at this venue again. The one thing I would suggest to improve, was for the artists to do more old school hits, even if they aren't their own. There was more "put your hands up" and "when I say, you say" and just talking than I would have preferred. There was also a lot of music I wasn't familiar with. Still overall a great show.

  • 90s house party

by swirla on 9/16/18Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre - St. Louis, MO - Maryland HeightsRating: 4 out of 5

It was definitely a concert of reminiscing that kept you dancing. Time between artists was mininal, so that was great. Vanilla ice only did a 30 minute set and was not worthy of being the by headliner. Naughty by Nature should have closed the show.

  • Feel Young Again

by SleeplessnSTL on 9/14/18Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre - St. Louis, MO - Maryland HeightsRating: 5 out of 5

This concert was WOW WOW WOW! Every artist was on point. Montell Jordan, Naughty by Nature, Rob Base, Coolio, Young MC, All-4-One, Vanilla Ice....excellent! I love that the artists only performed their hits, then they were off the stage and time between acts was minimal. They kept it moving and the concert ended just before the rain started. Great show!

It really did feel like a house party! Everyone was dancing the whole time.

The entire lineup was great. Not usually my wife's kind of thing but even she had a blast. Can't wait for this show to come to town again. I'll be there again!

  • Get your 90's groove on!

by JDHandy on 9/11/18Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre - St. Louis, MO - Maryland HeightsRating: 4 out of 5

I have never been to a concert at an amphitheater where there were so many people dancing in their seats and the aisles and walkways. It was great music and a great time! I would have given it 5 stars if it weren't for the DJ (Host) singing more of Tone Loc's songs than Tone Loc. I understand Tone is getting older but I paid to hear his voice, not the DJ. But, overall it was worth seeing. My wife wasn't sure she wanted to go but she had a blast and commended me on getting tickets!

The entire show was amazing, but Vanilla Ice bringing the audience on stage to dance with him and the other entertainers was great!!! :-)

  • so much fun!

by iwannarockrightnow on 9/11/18Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre - St. Louis, MO - Maryland HeightsRating: 4 out of 5

This was my first concert in the preferred lawn seating. It was well worth the extra $10 - however - the worker said they can seat up to 106 there so that would NOT have been fun. We lucked out that people didn't use this area or were deterred by the weather forecast. Everyone sounded awesome - I loved that they did their hits plus other 90s cover songs. I really enjoyed the 90s music in between the artists. Coolio sounded great but he talked way too much. I understand if artists have messages for their fans/audience, but this was way too much/long. And he stopped in the middle of 2 of his famous hits! That's why we went to the concert - to hear the whole songs! Overall, it was awesome and I'd do it over again! I appreciated that the bathrooms were decent as well.
