About

VANILLA ICE IN CONCERT:

From his days as one of the world's most famous rappers  to his reemergence as a genre-spanning rocker, Vanilla Ice has remained a consummate showman. The iconic flattop haircut and American flag warm-up suit of his "Ice Ice Baby" period may be gone, but the fire and energy that made him famous still abound at his electrifying live shows where he takes the stage alongside an inflatable grim reaper and launches buckets of confetti into the audience. The addition of a live drummer ensures that Ice's beat-heavy sound is bigger than ever on his must-see tours, where he treats ticket buyers to his hip-hop classics as well as recent fan favorites like "Turn It Up".

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Dallas-born Vanilla Ice, a.k.a. Robert Matthew Van Winkle, grew up influenced by hip-hop culture, taking up breakdancing in his teens and battle rapping at parties a few years later. In the late '80s he began performing regularly with his DJ and crew at a Dallas night club called City Lights, where he warmed up the stage for a variety of high-profile acts including N.W.A., Public Enemy, and MC Hammer. Ice made his recording debut in 1990 with "Ice Ice Baby", the lead single from his first album To the Extreme. The song was an international phenomenon, skyrocketing to No. 1 on charts around the world and establishing him as the first rapper to top the Billboard Hot 100. Several more hit singles followed including "Play That Funky Music" and "Cool as Ice (Everybody Get Loose)", but by the mid-'90s his star waned as he struggled with addiction and a grueling tour schedule. He returned to the spotlight in 1998 with the nu metal album Hard to Swallow, and has since dabbled in genres as far-ranging as country and techno on albums like 2001's Bi-Polar and 2011's W.T.F. (Wisdom, Tenacity, and Focus). Ice continues to entertain with his diverse sound and inimitable showmanship on his unforgettable tours.

Concert was great, all performances were fun to dance to. In regards to food & drinks though they are way too expensive. My 1 drink cost the same as my tickets. Completely ridiculous!

Very fun concert reliving some memories from high school and earlier. Great lineup of artists including Vanilla Ice, Coolio, All 4 One and Warren G, among others. We had fun with the other 30-50 year olds dancing around in the lawn.

The show was amazing !!! And the VIP meet and greet with Vanilla Ice was surreal !!! Not only was he one of the most down to earth guys I’ve met, he gave everyone in the room his time and so did the rest of the band. Also got to meet Coolio, Tone Loc, Treach from Naughty by Nature and more ... it was an unforgettable night. Thank you Vanilla Ice and company !!!

  • Best Ever! So much fun!

by SuzyQ1985 on 9/11/18Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre - St. Louis, MO - Maryland HeightsRating: 5 out of 5

I love how the party kept going in between performers with a DJ. Everyone played their hits & did amazing! I danced & sang along to every song. It was non-stop energy & I didn’t even want a restroom/drink break so I wouldn’t miss a minute. Lots of places to get a drink so short lines. Well organized event (it does take awhile to leave the parking lot)

  • Great night of music & memories

by ScottSTL on 9/11/18Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre - St. Louis, MO - Maryland HeightsRating: 5 out of 5

The beauty of this format with 8 artists is to get in, sing your top hits and get out. Most everyone did that very well, here are the exceptions: Tone Loc's voice isn't as strong these days so his DJ sang along with him the majority of the time and he was too loud. Coolio's performance was too long (too much fluff around the songs). Let's say he may or may not have been under the influence of an illegal substance. Naughty by Nature had amazing energy and killed it but at times, too many people on the mic yelling over each other making it hard to hear anyone. The best decision by the producers: Having a DJ/Emcee throughout keeping the popular videos/songs rolling while the next band was setting up to perform. The crowd danced and sang along the entire night!
