Valero Alamo Bowl at the Alamodome
Each winter, San Antonio, Texas, hosts two of the premier teams in the Big 12 and Pac-12 conferences in the Alamo Bowl. Since the game's inception, the Alamo Bowl has been played at the Alamodome, which opened in 1993 and has a current capacity of 64,000. Since 2010, the Alamo Bowl has pitted the second-choice Pac-12 team against the second-choice Big 12 team, leading to intriguing matchups and classic competitions.
Valero Alamo Bowl History
The first Alamo Bowl was played on December 31, 1993, when the California Golden Bears trounced the Iowa Hawkeyes, 37-3. Originally created with tie-ins to the Pac-10 conference and the Southwest Conference, a lack of eligible SWC schools in the game's inaugural season led to the entire conference's demise in 1995 and a longtime partnership with the Big Ten. The now-defunct Builders Square hardware chain was the titular sponsor of the Alamo Bowl from 1993 to 1998, with Sylvania and MasterCard also sponsoring the game before an unsponsored 2006 bowl and Valero's current sponsorship since 2007.
There have been many memorable moments in the Alamo Bowl's history. In 2005, the Michigan Wolverines almost pulled off a miracle against Nebraska, but their eight-lateral final play was stopped at the Cornhusker 16-yard line, leading to a 32-28 Nebraska victory. In 2011, Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III led Baylor to a 67-56 victory over Washington, in what remains the highest-scoring bowl game to end in regulation. The January 2016 Alamo Bowl featured a comeback for the ages when TCU overcame a 31-0 deficit at halftime to defeat Oregon in triple-overtime, 47-41. In December 2017, TCU kicked a 4th quarter field goal to squeak past Stanford, 39-37, and the 2018 contest featured No. 12 Washington State holding on against an upstart Iowa State team, beating the No. 25 Cyclones, 28-26.

I enjoyed the dome as it controlled the climate. The event was a great experience of football at the college level. I really enjoyed the opening ceremonies and the flag presentation. My ticket buying excellence needs improvement. You blocked all the good 3rd level seats for large groups and did not allow us early purchasers of seats, that were located closer the 50 yard line.
Great game and amazing fans! It was an amazing night, nothing like having your team win their bowl game!
Great Texas win The Texas band was awesome The Texas spirit team is always sooo good But the foot team is the best!!! Hook'em
Great game. Arena and bus accessibility was awesome! Easy in and out.My husband is a spinal cord injured veteran in a wheelchair and it is very difficult to get seaThey no one else in the entire section is in a wheelchair. Pretty irritating!
One of my best experiences. I love the Valero Alamo Bowl. I get a chance to witness some of the best athletes in the college realm. Just saw RG3 last year. I can stop talking about the game and I'm already planning for next year!!
So happy I got to see UT play in San Antonio. Ticketmaster gave me all the exciting itinerary info so we knew to get there early for a festival and got to see the UT band march into the stadium. UT started off not doing so good. It slowly pulled ahead for the win! Very exciting game!!!
Had an excellent time. Took the shuttle bus and I applaud San Antonio for having such an excellent way to get to the stadium. No complaints at all.
San Antonio is a terrific host city. Alamodome isn't huge, so maneuvering in the concessions is a bit tight, but not too bad. This year's game was awesome! We had a really great time!
Wow what a game. Hook em Horns! Had a great crowd around us and all had a great time!
great seats comfortable with lots of room and had backs to them
The venue was great, the noise from the Texas supporters was outstanding - This was a terrific opportunity for any football fan, but even more this year with the Horns present.
We drove in from Austin Saturday morning and had breakfast at Piedras Negras Cafe, which was recommended by a friend. The food was awesome and at such an affordable price, it couldn't be beat. We headed to the stadium and found a parking lot for $20 as the stadium parking was already sold out. We only had to walk 2 blocks so no complaints there. The Fan Zone offered a lot of fun and entertainment while waiting for the stadium to open up. Lots of beer, food and friendly rivalry! It was awesome when the school bands made a brief appearance. It really pumped up the crowd. And the game....absolutely incredible! The stadium staff was very helpful directing us to what we needed. No complaints there! Overall we had a very positive bowl experience. The only suggestion is to recycle, recycle, recycle!! I couldn't believe how much trash was bundled up in bags with things clearly visible that could be recycled such as cans. What an opportunity for a local non-profit to earn some cash by selling all those cans.
Had an amazing time with my boy at the game. The atmosphere and friendship was awesome. Looking forward to attending next year.
Great time with friends ... Great football matchup
What a comeback, Texas was down most of the game, but the momentum changed in the 4th quarter and Texas won the game !!
The Alamo Bowl was an amazing game. Two great teams plenty of action and great seats. My wife and I had a great time and would definitely recommend the venue and game to all friends and family. Plenty of activities going on in the city to go along with the game.
I had a great experience at the bowl. One BIG problem though was the ridiculous "policy" of charging full ticket price for an infant to sit in your lap for the game. I have a seven month old who would be asleep in my lap and they would still charge me full price for ticket. They claimed it was NCAA policy to account for everyone in the stadium. That is fine but they could issue a free or greatly reduced "child" ticket for one year and under or something. I have never had a problem getting her in free watching Baylor games at Folyd Cassey stadium so I doubt its NCAA policy. It was the Alamo dome being GREEDY. If you have very young children don't be caught off guard with this dumb policy.
A Fun and exciting game to watch from the front row. I'm sure it was fun to watch from any row. Good crowd
The event itself was definitely worth going too, the only downside being the seats and how hard they were to get too.
