Rahat Fateh Ali Khan definitely performed to his best. He is a spectacular performer and he delivered. For an artiste whose performance is essentially done sitting down and who does not move about the stage to communicate with the audience, he not only commanded the audience with his vocals but was able to raise everyone to their feet with vibrant music and singing along with his musicians and amazing chorus. He deserves ten stars out of five for his performance.
The organizers however, managed to make what would be a perfect evening a horrible nightmare. The show began an hour and fifteen minutes later than the advertised time on the tickets. For the duration of the wait, no apologies were made nor was any information given to the waiting crowd. An extremely loud advertisement was continuously played. It was heavily amplified and was painful to withstand for the lengthy wait. Note that this show was on a Sunday night so that anyone having to work on Monday morning would have missed an hour and a quarter of the performance. During the unusually long intermission, there was nowhere to escape from the horrible extremely loud ad that was played again continuously.
The most disgusting aspect of it all was the fact that no communication was done in English. The MC was introduced as a Doctor but she could not speak a word of English and appeared to have problems with whatever language she was speaking. This was a convert in Houston, Texas and while the songs were in a foreign language, the attendees were largely English speaking. Simple things could have been communicated in English, such as the intermission time and the program for the evening.
Overall, Shaks entertainment and Rehan Siddiqi should give me my money back and pay for the torture that they put me through on that evening. I hope that when Rahat returns it is with another organizer - someone who knows what they are doing.
