Washington Huskies Football at Husky Stadium

Seattle has a long tradition of excellent college football, and the University of Washington Huskies continue the tradition to this day. The Huskies have won 17 conference championships and seven Rose Bowls, and they claim two national championships, in 1960 and 1991. Washington plays at Alaska Airlines Field at Husky Stadium, which opened in 1920 and seats 70,083. They are coached by Kalen DeBoer, who led the Huskies to an 11-2 record and an Alamo Bowl win in his first season.

Washington Huskies Football History

The University of Washington Huskies first took to the field in 1889 and have had consistent success since. Gil Dobie led the Huskies during an unprecedented period of success in the early 1900s, leaving with a 58-0-3 record in 1916 as part of a 64-game unbeaten streak and a 40-game winning streak. Washington joined the Pacific Coast Conference in 1916, and helped to found what was then known as the Athletic Association of Western Universities in 1959, which over the years grew into the modern Pac-12 Conference. In 1991, coach Don James, along with quarterback Billie Joe Hobert, offensive tackle Lincoln Kennedy and defensive tackle Steve Emtman, led the Huskies to an undefeated season, culminating in a Rose Bowl victory over the Michigan Wolverines, and a share of the national title with Miami. Many legendary players have suited up for the Huskies, including Warren Moon, who led Washington to a Rose Bowl victory in 1978, and fellow Pro Football Hall of Famers Hugh McElhenny and Arnie Weinmeister.

While the Huskies have many rivals in the Pac-12 Conference, none are more important than the Washington State Cougars, who they face annually in the Apple Cup. With roots dating back to 1900, the Apple Cup is the traditional final regular-season game for both teams, and in recent years had conference championship implications. In 2018, No. 16 Washington upset No. 8 Washington State 28-15 for their sixth straight Apple Cup victory, and their ninth in 10 years.

    Husky-Cardinals

    by 1Hoser2eh on 10/4/16Husky Stadium - Seattle

We were among the 72,000+ helping the D all we could! I have not heard Husky Stadium that loud since the Nebraska night game in '92. Even walking through the thousands of purple tailgaters north of the stadium I got this sense that everyone knew Husky football was back, and they were about to prove it to the whole country. The name Don James was on nearly everyone's lips. Really epic statement game ... this city has TWO very good football teams now. I hadn't felt that way walking out of Husky Stadium since the 31-0 thrashing of Todd Marijuanavich's top ranked USC Trojans in '90. ("Purple ... All I saw was purple!") That game also announced Washington was back ...

The Huskies were an unstoppable force that the Wine sipping Cardinal fans and players can't deal with!

    Best experience ever

    by Tbecjr09 on 10/4/16Husky Stadium - Seattle

Stadium was a sea of purple, fans were loud, the Dawgs dominated, and the weather was perfect. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. There's a reason why UDUB is crowded the greatest setting in college football.

    An amazing Apple Cup!

    by DawgFan01 on 12/1/15Husky Stadium - Seattle

Great weather. The Huskies played their hearts out in winning the game and becoming bowl eligible. The inside of Husky Stadium looked nice. Staff was very helpful and happy.

    Fun venue, great weather!

by zrocketchick on 12/1/15Husky Stadium - Seattle

We got extremely lucky to catch a very sunny day in Seattle for the Apple Cup. The stadium has great views of the lake, the mountains, and the space needle (if you're standing in the right spot)! The crowd was great, and the game was a total blowout. The huskies kicked butt! The only reason I didn't give this a 5 star review is the beer garden gets so busy at half time that they have to stop people from going in. Since you can't take the alcohol in the rest of the stadium, people aren't leaving as soon as they get their drink. We never got into the beer garden during halftime, and that was kind of a bummer. Everything else was cool though.

by DawgRadar on 11/30/15Husky Stadium - Seattle

Seats were unbeatable, best college football venue, greatest fans in the Northwest! Kennedy, Locker and Page McKenzie in attendance. UW Band rocks, student section is LOUD! Of course, Apple Cup remaining in Seattle is the goal. Congrats UW Football and Chris Peterson's coaching staff. Dubbs is pretty awesome too! Go Dawgs!!!!

    Mistakes vs Marginal calls

    by Dawgfan688 on 11/10/15Husky Stadium - Seattle

While both teams made some mistakes with penalties, etc -- the outcome of the game was really decided by who got the benefit of the doubt on judgement calls by the officials. In this case the ranked team got the benefit of the doubt for calls in their favor and the unranked team did not. In MY opinion, the way these calls were going to be made was decided BEFORE the game was played. Utah is the more marketable team to the NCAA and Pac 12. It is all about the money. The only way Washington was going to win that game was to have been perfect in all aspects.

    Husky Stadium is awesome!

    by dawgfan2222 on 11/10/15Husky Stadium - Seattle

I am a season ticket holder and normally sit in the club section but wanted to check out a different area of the newly remodeled stadium. I have heard complaints about sight lines being poor when sitting down low but I found this not to be true. Sat behind Husky bench and loved these seats, I am going to buy season tickets in this section for next year in addition to my club seats.

    too late

by sparrowfoot on 11/3/15Husky Stadium - Seattle

Starting a college football game at 8Pm in Seattle is just plain bad for the game, the fans and the players. Getting home at midnight isn't good. The stadium was half full but would have been largely full if held earlier. Didn't even know starting time until 10 days before. So after 30 years of going to Husky games I will stop and stay home. It seems to be what the school wants as TV money trumps fan/alumni experience and support.

    Setting was great!

by trapgirl on 11/3/15Husky Stadium - Seattle

The seats were on the upper level and we could see the entire field. We had some trouble finding the level, because the tickets didn't give us directions to the level. Our view of the field was great. When it rained we didn't get wet.

Best college stadium in the USA!

by Majorattitude on 10/6/15Husky Stadium - Seattle

Seeing a Husky game at Alaska Airlines Husky stadium is amazing! It was a beautiful fall day - warm, but not too warm. Husky fans were in abundance and the Husky marching band never disappoints. One of the best days ever!.

    Good game, long walk

by FayRay on 9/23/15Husky Stadium - Seattle

Good game! Loved watching. Seats are not big enough though. We were crunched when a wide shouldered man sat next to us. We were on the numbered bleachers. Also, not much parking. We were a long walk away from the stadium.

    Awesome setting and experience

by CLBart on 9/22/15Husky Stadium - Seattle

Everything about the stadium is awesome. The whole experience of the pre-game, half time performances, after game traditions just add to what is already an awesome experience (the game itself!). The only thing I would change is that it is time to change up your singers of the National Anthem. It's always the same person, singing it the same way each and every time.

to high in the sky for the $

by Anonymous on 11/25/14Husky Stadium - Seattle

The Husky Game was a good entertainment but there were several detractions. First the 7:30 start time in late Nov is a negative for me. Second the cost for section 330 seats seems excessive and finally the rest rooms for section 330 are not even close. You have to go down the ramp to the next level to reach them. I would not pay the current price to go to a game given the same circumstances.
