About

Washington Huskies Football at Husky Stadium

Seattle has a long tradition of excellent college football, and the University of Washington Huskies continue the tradition to this day. The Huskies have won 17 conference championships and seven Rose Bowls, and they claim two national championships, in 1960 and 1991. Washington plays at Alaska Airlines Field at Husky Stadium, which opened in 1920 and seats 70,083. They are coached by Kalen DeBoer, who led the Huskies to an 11-2 record and an Alamo Bowl win in his first season.

Washington Huskies Football History

The University of Washington Huskies first took to the field in 1889 and have had consistent success since. Gil Dobie led the Huskies during an unprecedented period of success in the early 1900s, leaving with a 58-0-3 record in 1916 as part of a 64-game unbeaten streak and a 40-game winning streak. Washington joined the Pacific Coast Conference in 1916, and helped to found what was then known as the Athletic Association of Western Universities in 1959, which over the years grew into the modern Pac-12 Conference. In 1991, coach Don James, along with quarterback Billie Joe Hobert, offensive tackle Lincoln Kennedy and defensive tackle Steve Emtman, led the Huskies to an undefeated season, culminating in a Rose Bowl victory over the Michigan Wolverines, and a share of the national title with Miami. Many legendary players have suited up for the Huskies, including Warren Moon, who led Washington to a Rose Bowl victory in 1978, and fellow Pro Football Hall of Famers Hugh McElhenny and Arnie Weinmeister.

While the Huskies have many rivals in the Pac-12 Conference, none are more important than the Washington State Cougars, who they face annually in the Apple Cup. With roots dating back to 1900, the Apple Cup is the traditional final regular-season game for both teams, and in recent years had conference championship implications. In 2018, No. 16 Washington upset No. 8 Washington State 28-15 for their sixth straight Apple Cup victory, and their ninth in 10 years.

    seats on the last row

by Lorrie on 10/18/10Husky Stadium - Seattle

We were disappointed in our seats. We were in the last row in the stadium. We want to sit closer to the field and find it impossible to know where our seats are before we purchase them. We even spent more money thinking they would be closer to the field. We couldn't see the score board completely and therefore never knew how much time was left. Also, harder to hear the speakers.

    Late Kickoff

by ghfkkiT on 10/18/10Husky Stadium - Seattle

I would have liked to go to this game since I bought a ticket. However, UW chose to move the game to a night game for television and I didn't go due to the lateness of the game and the time it would take for me to get home after. I will not be buying tickets to UW games in the future unless the kickoff time is shown on the ticket -- no more buying tickets with "TBA" as the game time. SInce I wasted the money and didn't go, it is unlikely I will buy another ticket to a UW game. Certainly won't be going to night games ever. I just don't want to navigate my way home at midnight from Husky Stadium. Too bad you chose TV money over your fans attending the game.

I love the Huskies and keep attending regardless of how the football game turns out. However, I have noticed a disappointing trend - use of loud, canned music throughout the game. First of all, the music is too loud and does not set the tone of getting the crowd excited. Why isn't the Husky Band playing any longer? Why is there fog coming out of a the tunnel versus a tunnel made by the Band. In other parts of the country, this would be considered horrible. But in the Northwest, we have a different understanding of where bands fit in football. My hope is that the Athletic Director will realize the jewel he has in 250 performers for the entire day and start letting them play again instead of canned music and un-important announcements.

    UW and ASU Boring

by Uwasu on 10/12/10Husky Stadium - Seattle

Boring game both teams are awful. Seats that we got from Ticketmaster were horrible. Luckily, not too many people showed up so we moved to better seats.

    Go Big Red!

by fbfun on 9/21/10Husky Stadium - Seattle

What an awesome game! And not only because Nebraska came away with a big road game victory. I don't know that I've ever been in a stadium so loud! And who can beat the view... we had a great view of the field, with lake and mountains as a backdrop. WA fans are great too.

Worth the trip and higher level seats, just for the view.

    Awesome Home Opener

by Anonymous on 9/14/10Husky Stadium - Seattle

Great home opener for the Huskies. They started off slow and had me worried. But they found their groove and showed what they are capable of. Hope the rest of the season goes as well. Nebraska and USC will be the true tests.

    Clocked Orange

by GoldGamePantsFan on 9/14/10Husky Stadium - Seattle

Game was awesome, couldn't have been more fun. We were on the 50 yard line-- right behind a pole on the upper South Side! Ah, 1950 architectural technology. Wish that fact had been revealed in the ticket sale, but had a great time anyway, leaning left, leaning right, peeking around the pole but at least having full view of the end zones!

    Huskies are awesome

by StemAnt on 9/13/10Husky Stadium - Seattle

How do you review a football game? Game started off rocky, but the Dawgs got things going and there was no stopping them. Our seats were really far away from the game though! Recommend listening to 950 am on a radio to get more play information. A big group of us rented a boat at Fisherman's terminal, cruised Lake Washington for 3 hours and he docked right behind the stadium and came back to get us after the game. A great way to get to the games.
