University of South Carolina Gamecocks Football History
A decorated college football program, the South Carolina Gamecocks played their first game in 1892. A century later the team joined the Southeastern Conference, where they still reside. Along the way, the program has been coached by Hall of Famers Lou Holtz, Steve Spurrier and other legends and has churned out quality NFL talent like Sterling Sharpe, former No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney and Super Bowl winners Stephon Gilmore and Alshon Jeffery. In 1980, George Rogers became the first – and still only – Gamecock to win the Heisman Trophy.
South Carolina has had many notable seasons and, as a member of the SEC, routinely hosts fellow football powerhouses Clemson, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee and Auburn at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia. The Gamecocks are currently led by head coach Shane Beamer.

University of South Carolina Gamecocks Football at Williams-Brice Stadium
The South Carolina Gamecocks play their games at the 77,559-capacity Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, SC. Since 2010, the stadium has undergone $30 million in renovations, including the installation of a giant 36-foot-high by 124-foot-wide HD video board and the lush Springs Brooks Plaza promenade entrance. While the 52-acre tailgate area is a proper SEC football pre-game experience, there are also three nearby breweries and a more ready-made fan zone in the Lexington Medical Center Gamecock Village, which opens 4.5 hours before kickoff.
