About

Uncle Kracker may have gotten his start on the turntables mixing rap and rock, but on his phenomenally popular album Follow Me, and the music that's followed, audiences have heard a softer, gentler sound. His 2009 hit single, “Smile,” debuted at No. 57 on the charts and was quickly embraced by country music fans. To top it off, he’s collaborated on songs and played concerts with country star Kenny Chesney on numerous occasions. On his 2013 tour, he shared a loaded ticket with longtime musical collaborator Kid Rock and Southern rock legends ZZ Top. His music was the softest and sweetest of the bunch, a mix of rock and country, including tracks off his 2012 album, Midnight Special, featuring the singles "Nobody's Sad on a Saturday Night" and "Blue Skies."

Uncle Kracker, born Matthew Shafer, grew up in Michigan, where he became best friends with then-unknown rap-rocker Kid Rock, who introduced Kracker into the turntable scene. Kracker soon became a featured vocalist on Rock's early albums. When Rock achieved musical success, Kracker decided it was time for him to release his own album, too. His debut, Double Wide, mostly featured a Kid Rock-style rap-rock mix, but it was the softer single, "Follow Me," that hit it big, charting on the Adult Contemporary and Country charts. The album went double platinum and spent an incredible 10 months on the Billboard 200. His 2003 remake of Dobie Gray’s “Drift Away” set the record for most weeks at No. 1 on the Adult Contemporary chart. From his 2009 album, Happy Hour, Kracker's Don Williams-influenced “Smile” went double platinum. His most recent album, 2012’s Midnight Special, is Uncle Kracker’s first full country album.

    Uncle Kracker Rules!!

by Bowlski on 3/29/10Northern Lights - Clifton Park

Rehab was great until they started to rap. They has good stage presence, good sound and beat. But once the head guy started to rap we could not understand his lyrics. Uncle Kracker on the other hand was bomb throughout. He played his major hits, which everyone loves and then did the Gambler cover by Kenny Rodgers, the All Summer Long cover by the legend Kid Rock, and What I got From Sublime. The song about the letters to his daughters was awesome, and the rest were great as well. I would see Uncle Kracker again, and I will for sure be returning to Norther Lights! I was super surprised the place wasn't more packed.

FOLLOW ME to my DRINKING PROBLEM

by HAVOC666 on 3/29/10Northern Lights - Clifton Park

If you are a fan of either band you know what i am talking about!!! IF they are coming to your area go see them... they are fun and entertaining all night long... i love bands who have made it BIG and still prefer to ROCK OUT in smaller venues... they remind me of the good old days!!!

Uncle Kracker Was Pretty Mellow and that was good

by Lintfilms on 3/29/10Northern Lights - Clifton Park

I'll be honest Rehab's bartender song was about all I knew about him, and his band was some pretty hard rock other than that which was great. They closed their set with the bartender song and that was great. Uncle Kracker played "Follow Me" in the middle of the set and rocked out on some of his own hits and covers too. His version of the Gambler was great!

    Jingle Jam Rocked

by LBruce on 12/7/09Sams Town Casino - Tunica

I got there about 9pm. So I missed a few of the artists. But the rest was great. It was my 30th birthday party and it did not get much better. It was my husband and me and our friends. The artists performed wonderfully.

    Awesome show! Great lineup

by janfan211 on 12/6/09Sams Town Casino - Tunica

Q107.5 outdid themselves this year. I went to last year's Jingle Jam and enjoyed it a lot but this year's was even better. Awesome line-up and I was glad there wasn't a long wait between the acts. It went very smoothly. All the artists were awesome! I had a lot of fun. Already looking forward to next year's.

    Uncle Cracker was great!

by Anonymous on 12/6/09Sams Town Casino - Tunica

I enjoyed the fact , that I got to listen to some great music for a wonderful price! Did expect to see more people out there. Also , I think there should have been a area for seating if someone wanted to sit for a while. Overall, though I thought it was ok.

    My favorite Uncle!

by tennesseetom on 12/5/09Sams Town Casino - Tunica

Kracker saved the night and should have been the headliner. He energized the crowd and had the place rockin. A couple one hit wonders and an IDOL were good fillers leading up to Uncle Kracker. Cobra Starship was alot like Weird Al meets Revenge of the Nerds and is a testiment that a catchy tune can get anyone air time. Collective Soul has seen better days and was not headliner material. IYAZ provided a nice break and I thought had the 2nd strongest performance of the night. I look for him to continue to do big things. Over all it was a pleasant night, however the bulk of the music could have been better. If charity hadn't been the overall goal I would have been very upset.

Needed more Cobra, less Uncle Kracker

by Jess42 on 12/5/09Sams Town Casino - Tunica

The overall event was good, but Uncle Kracker sang too long. If he was going to sing 7 or 8 songs, he should have gone closer to the end of the night. I enjoyed the shorter acts at the beginning, but Cobra Starship should have at least been allowed to sing as many songs as Uncle Kracker since they followed him in the line-up. They are a big name group and needed more stage time.

the headliners didn't play that long, it took them more time to set up than we actually got to hear from cobra starship or collective soul.

    Uncle Kracker

by KHDS on 10/15/09Piere's - Fort Wayne

I had a great time, although, it was obvious that Matt himself was not sober.. The singing was great, the music was great, his mic got disconneted, but he still carried on. LOVE YA MATT S.

Thanks for the memories, Uncle Kracker

by Kracked on 10/10/09Piere's - Fort Wayne

Uncle Kracker's performance at Pierre's was truly unforgettable. I do not go to many live performances of music artists but when I do it so often ends with such comments as "it wasn't their best" or "their cd was better." Definitely not in this case. Uncle Kracker is a true performer. You can tell he loves what he is doing. His voice was unwavering and solid. He seems to be so natural and comfortable on stage. It's as if he would perform whether anyone was listening or not just simply because he wanted to...

    Uncle Kracker at Pieres

by Sexysned on 10/10/09Piere's - Fort Wayne

This was a cool show to see as my first concert. Ty stone as an opening act was pretty cool, but ty stone played longer than uncle kracker. Uncle Kracker played for an hour. I suppose that it was a pretty good concert i just didnt feel like it was worth 2 hours to drive to see him for an hour? if he was closer then maybe i would see him, but not that far away again.

by MAHs on 10/10/09Piere's - Fort Wayne

Uncle Kracker is such an amazing performer! We drove down from Michigan and it was worth every minute of driving. Loved the venue. Could not have been closer to the stage. Ty Stone , the opening act was also great and we will be buying his CD this week. Thank you Uncle Kracker for a wonderful night and probably the best concert I have ever seen.

    Kracker & Ty rocked

by PitGirl on 10/6/0920th Century Theater - Oakley

As always, Uncle Kracker and his band rocked the house! Lucky for us, someone did not advertise this very well because it was not sold out. It felt like a personal show. He's a fantastic song writer and performer. It seems likes he really enjoys what he's doing. Love the new music as well as the old stuff too. It was just a really fun evening.
