About

Chicago's eclectic rock band Umphrey's McGee has been keeping fans on their toes for nearly 27 years now. Though often pigeonholed into "jam band" circles, Umphrey's doesn't fit that traditional mold; and their fans don't either. Is it prog rock? Song-forward, Beatles-esque arrangements? Be careful, they might hit you with some metal riffs mid-set, too. Amongst 2,500+ gigs and 300 million+ tracks streamed, you-had-to-be-there moments include the band's performance at the first-ever Bonnaroo and selling more CDs (remember those?) than any other act on the bill. A leader in the live music world, Umphrey's McGee became the first group to launch its own single-artist streaming service with UMLive.net, which houses recordings of every gig since 2005. The service has since grown and now lives on through Nugs.net, which is used by the likes of Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen, and more.

Beyond intimate backstage encounters and ski trips with their most diehard fans, Umphrey's McGee instituted the groundbreaking "Headphones & Snowcones" program, granting fans access to professional headphones and a soundboard-quality mix to listen wirelessly at shows. At their UMBowl, they empowered the audience to vote on the setlist in real-time and choose favorite improv themes via text message. In 2017, they stepped into another realm altogether by integrating themselves into the VR Platform Endless Riff. All of the above has earned the band status as kings of the live music scene with standing yearly engagements at iconic venues, their own events in Iceland (Rockjavick) and Mexico (Holidaze), and co-hosting Chillicothe, IL's long-running Summer Camp festival. In April 2025, Umphrey's McGee will lead their faithful fans on another bucket list musical adventure: Morockshow will feature three nights in Marrakech, Morocco, marking another signature event in an exotic location. Umphrey's McGee's latest release Asking For A Friend showcases more evolved songwriting and thoughtful arranging from a band continuing to grow and mature with their droves of die-hard, longtime fans.

by Mark on 3/26/24The Bellwether - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

EveryUmphrey’s concert I have been to has been a blast! Their music is uplifting and fun. And if you like to rock, they always put some heavier songs in the mix. Love this band!! They put their fans first in every show.

  • Spectacular

by Nereus on 3/26/24The Bellwether - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Umphreys McGee is spectacular. The musicianship, composition and production after amazing, not to mention a light show that is second to none. Perfection!!! Please come back to LA sooner than later!

  • Never cease to amaze

by Umphrey's skeptic on 3/26/24The Bellwether - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Had a great location looking down on the stage, maybe 20 feet away from Jake Cinninger. This allowed me to see his craftsmanship up close. This also allowed for me to see the interactions between the different band members coordinating the amazing transitions from song to song, jam to jam, or solo to solo. This is my 4th time seeing them, and they haven't ceased to amaze me.

  • UM never disappoints

by Toast on 3/26/24The Bellwether - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

I just saw Umphrey's McGee at a new venue, and it was a face-melting experience! The venue was great, and the band left it all out on the stage...as per usual!

  • Awesome Band

by Shoe on 3/24/24South Shore Room at Harrah's Lake Tahoe - StatelineRating: 5 out of 5

This band is seriously underrated. Very talented musicians who bind together so tightly and weave a musical tapestry that it’s hard to believe they do this LIVE! Go see them!

  • Penn's Peak Umphrey's Show

    by pstir1025 on 2/21/24Penn's Peak - Jim ThorpeRating: 5 out of 5

Excellent show. Each time I see this band, they just keep getting better and better. Amazing musicians with such a great sense of how to play together. Some of their jams took me a place I hadn't anticipated. Looking forward to seeing them again.

  • Great concert, venue okay

    by UMFan1963 on 2/20/24Brooklyn Bowl Philadelphia - PhiladelphiaRating: 3 out of 5

The venue seating was misleading, actually non-existent which was a problem since I recently had knee surgery and specific ordered the VIP tickets since it listed assigned seats. Turns out there were no seats, just an elevated viewing area with a limited view. Brooklyn Bowl Philly won't be a venue of choice for me.

  • Awesome Show!

Awesome Show! but oversold... no room to dance :( :( :(

  • Great band, but not enough space

by Ker on 2/20/24Brooklyn Bowl Philadelphia - PhiladelphiaRating: 3 out of 5

This show was sold out and while I love the Brooklyn Bowl, the show should've been held at another venue with more space, or sell less tickets so there is more room to actually enjoy the show.

  • Venue was too small for them

by LawnGirl on 2/19/24Brooklyn Bowl Philadelphia - PhiladelphiaRating: 4 out of 5

UM absolutely killed it both nights IMHO. Venue is wonderful: free water and it’s an intimate setting with the band but this was almost too small a venue for them. Friday was packed but AMAZING. But awesome Brooklyn Bowl two night runs always get a special kind of packed Sat nights. UM being sold out, I arrived early and still had to stand in the way back and watch on monitors bc it was too damn tight up front on Saturday. Sold out BB shows aren’t for the claustrophobic!

  • Umphrey’s McGee… The Gold Standard

by Ian A on 2/19/24Brooklyn Bowl Philadelphia - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

You will not get better value for your money with any other band. Umphrey's is made up of world class musicians that leave it all on the field. The stage presence is incredible; they make you feel like a friend in the way they engage the crowd. I’ll see them anytime they’re in or around Philly.

  • Wow!

by Festivalgirl on 2/19/24Brooklyn Bowl Philadelphia - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

This is one of the best shows I’ve ever seen! Penn Peak is awesome! I saw them in Philadelphia at the Brooklyn ball and this totally was so much better. The venue makes a big difference.!

  • They never disappoint!

UM great band & they keep blowing my mind! Keep loving!

  • Awesome

by CEL on 2/17/24The Pageant - St LouisRating: 5 out of 5

Umphreys McGee was astonishing!! First time seeing them but definitely not the last!!!

  • Always a different show

by Mr Matt on 2/13/24The Pageant - St LouisRating: 5 out of 5

Umphreys is a rock band. They lean progressive but they are a rock band through & through. They deserve to be seen live & their sets are different every night. Some nights are lice, laid back and mellow & others are full-force, face melting shred fest. These guys have been playing together for a long time and it really shows. I don't think there is a more polished, tight band touring right now.

  • Um-forgettable. \mm/

by Smashbrook on 2/10/24The Fillmore Detroit - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Umphrey's is the greatest band in the world. I will never miss a Michigan show just wish they still did the 2 night run in Detroit. Pay the snucka was epic.

  • Awesome show!

by Monica on 2/7/24The Fillmore Detroit - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Always a great show every time! They bring a lot of energy which I love, just been a big fan of them for awhile now!

  • Great venue, but under the umbrella now

by Dman on 1/18/24The Ritz - RaleighRating: 1 out of 5

Amazing bands. Want 200 extra to sit vip etc. All cards etc. 11-13 for a beer. Stay private.

  • Underwhelmed

by DinkyH on 1/15/24The Ritz - RaleighRating: 3 out of 5

I've listened to quite a bit of Umphrey's McGee over the years, mainly on the jam oriented streaming channels and I thought they would be fun to see live. Clearly they are talented musicians but it just never felt like they got into a true jam groove. Their highly technical style doesn't lend itself to getting into a long jam that sounds natural. Instead, it seemed choppy and rigid with everyone just playing their instruments individually instead of "together". Still, there were plenty of other people at the show who seemed pleased with the performance so maybe it was just me.

  • Left out in the rain

    by Wett_Dawgz on 1/15/24The Ritz - RaleighRating: 2 out of 5

How can a decent venue not set up any covering for guests going through security in the pouring rain? And further told umbrellas will not be allowed past the checkpoint. Typical clown show at the Ritz.
