About

The Ultimate Fighting Championship on Tour

The most elite fighters in mixed martial arts do battle against each other in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. In just over 25 years, MMA has grown into one of the most popular of combat sports, and UFC has grown to become the name to know in mixed martial arts. Some of the greatest fighters in history have been associated with the Ultimate Fighting Championship. While the brand has continued to grow worldwide, on pay-per-view, and with the hit reality series The Ultimate Fighter, UFC action is best experienced at the dozens of live events produced each year.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship originally started with a tournament at Denver, Colorado's McNichols Sports Arena on November 12, 1993. It was an exhibition to determine which of a multitude of combat styles were the most effective, including kickboxing, kenpo, shootfighting, and Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

Out of this evolved what is now known as mixed martial arts, where fighters combine several styles in order to knock out their opponents or drive them into submission. UFC entered the world of women's mixed martial arts in 2012 with the signing of Ronda Rousey, and has quickly become the premier organization for women's MMA as well.

UFC sanctions titles in nine weight classes, with women competing in the strawweight, flyweight, bantamweight, and featherweight classes. Men compete in the flyweight classes and beyond as well as lightweight, welterweight, middleweight, light heavyweight, and heavyweight divisions.

Ultimate Fighting Championship bouts are fought using the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts, passed by the New Jersey State Athletic Commission in 2001 and adopted by North America's other governing bodies over the next decade. UFC fights are judged by the "10-point must system," for three to five rounds lasting three minutes each. Fights must end either by submission, knockout, technical knockout, decision, disqualification, forfeit, or in a no contest.

    Great Experience!

by jrprdctions on 7/12/09Radio City Music Hall - New York

You must take into account that at the end of the day it is a PPV being broadcast live, so its not the real thing. That being said though, there came moments where you felt like it was the real thing; thats how great the vibe at Radio City Musical Hall felt. It wasnt too crowded, you chose your seat and felt comfortable. A few rowdy people yelling stupid sayings, but then again, when doesnt that happen at any type of event.

UFC is indeed the best sport

by Liltl2001 on 7/12/09Radio City Music Hall - New York

This is the frist viewing party for a UFC event and I must say that it was a change from usually watching it i n sports bars. But watching in Radio City Music Hall was a great experience as people filled the arena that all had the love for UFC, as every kick and punch was followed by loud screams and chants. Having the oppourtunity to talk to UFC fighters and ask them questions was also was once in a liftime experience, as people rushed for the chance to express their feelings to how much these fighters mean to us. People packed the arena as if we were actually there at the event, and I must say that is how it felt, the energy was electric, the chants were loud, and the level of expection lived up to it's promise. This even showed that UFC is a major sport that respected that is respected by millions and it will only continue growing.

UFC 98 was more than just the event

by malferds on 7/12/09MGM Grand Hotel - Las Vegas

My first UFC event. I went to see the show, but left with more. After the show i got to meet all kinds of fighters from japan and other oranizations. These MMA fighters are not really famous and hardly get recognized on the mid and low levels of the sport. That was my greatest experience involving MMA so far, just sitting in the lobby of the MGM grand! The event was nice tho, but i wish i could have heard the announcers talking. They didnt put that audio out to the crowd, only the televised audience.

    Great Experience

by Yoright on 7/12/09Radio City Music Hall - New York

I've watched UFC pay per views from home, at a friends house with a projection screen, and I've seen it live in person, but this was by far the best way to see it. The screen in Radio City Music Hall is absolutely gigantic and it made even the toughest looking UFC fans act like giddy children as they walked into the theater. Watching UFC at a venue like this combines the best of both worlds that watching it on TV and live in person gives you. Your watching the TV broadcast so you're getting the perfect angles and the closeups of the fight, you're getting the commentary of Goldberg and Rogan, you're getting the between round strategies; none of which you get when you're watching a fight in person; all of which are far times better because of the size of the screen and the sound system. On the flip side, because of the size of the screen and the fact that you're watching it with a couple thousand people, it gives it the feel and energy of watching it in person. We all got to see the best card in UFC history the best way possible. I feel lucky.

The UFC has to come live to NYC!

by PAR3 on 7/12/09Radio City Music Hall - New York

UFC 100 was the beginning of a new era for mixed martial arts. This event managed to get more "mainstream" coverage than any other UFC event in the past. So having been able to watch this great card inside a packed Radio city music hall made it that much more special. The crowd was laud and energetic. The atmosphere was second to none. This event was so good it just left you with a taste for live UFC in NYC!

    NYC wants UFC @ MSG

by KHANDIDMMA on 7/12/09Radio City Music Hall - New York

UFC 100 was phenomenal!! The card had many great figts including GSP VS. Alves and Lesnar VS. Mir. I remember first watching an UFC event on VHS when I was a child. Never could I have imagined the success and popularity the UFC has achieved. I am excited and cant wait for the next UFC event and for the upcomming season of Ultimate Fighter. As long as there are viewing parties at Radio City Music Hall, I will return to watch as many as I can, until UFC returns to Madison Square Garden!
