University of Central Florida Knights Football History

Varsity football didn't come to UCF until 1979, when the Knights joined the NCAA's Division III. By 1996, UCF ascended to the NCAA's top division, becoming the first program to play at all levels of college football. In short order, the Black and Gold became an unlikely national contender. In 2004, under new coach George O'Leary, UCF went 0-11. Over his next 10 seasons in Orlando, the team went to seven bowl games, including a 52-42 Fiesta Bowl victory over Baylor, which capped a 2013 season in which the Knights went 12-1 and undefeated in conference play.

In 2017, under coach Scott Frost, the Knights swept the regular season, won their conference championship game over Memphis in double overtime, and beat No. 7 Auburn in the Peach Bowl, 34-27 — the first undefeated season in school history. The following year, the Knights went 12-1, their only loss coming against LSU in the Fiesta Bowl. That game ended UCF's 25-game winning streak. The Knights have made a bowl game in nearly every season under head coach Gus Malzahn up until his final season in 2024.

University of Central Florida Knights at Acrisure Bounce House

Located just northeast of downtown Orlando, Acrisure Bounce House has been the Knights' home since 2007. It quickly earned the nickname "The Bounce House" thanks to vibrations produced whenever fans jumped in unison, and the title was officially added to the stadium’s official name in 2025. Come out a couple hours before kickoff and greet the players during their Knight Walk from IOA Plaza. Ninety minutes before kickoff, you can join the marching band and the spirit team near Knights Plaza for the fan march to the stadium. And when "Kernkraft 400” by Zombie Nation comes on the speakers at the game, be sure to bounce.

Great time, Great game! The only drawback is that parking is quite a distance from the stadium and not enough places to buy Knight gear! Overall great job!

  • Go Knights

What a fun stadium! Great student spirit. When everyone stomps the earth moves! The third down gong is crazy. Loved the no alcohol in the stadium policy. (No one enjoys the game with drunk fans.)

The day presented itself with good football weather. The game was great and very exciting. The teams kept the fans at the edge of their seats. UCF kept their poise and determination to strive for a much needed awesome victor. GO KNIGHTS!! and great job!!

This was our first UCF football game. We found the stadium comfortable and easy to navigate. Our seats were about half way up Section 227 (on the 40-yard line), and could not have been better. It was an exciting game and the UCF Win was icing on the cake. Parking was a little difficult only because we did not know that many of the "Parking by Permit Only" lots were open to the public on game day. When we stopped to ask a campus policeman, he was inexcusably rude. He was on a side street between lots, with no traffic so we were not only offended by his attitude but puzzeled by what was a completly unpredictable response to a request for assistance. If parents are treated this way, it makes me wonder how the students fair.

  • Knights pull out victory

by TheGunn on 11/2/09Bright House Networks Stadium - OrlandoRating: 5 out of 5

Marshall thundered up and down the field with receivers who could make unbelievable catches as well as strip the ball from UCF defenders to thwart interceptions. But in the fourth quarter, UCF got back in the game at 20-14 and in the closing moments they were in the redzone but could not score. Marshall could have closed out the game but a UCF defender stripped the ball from the quarterback and with less than a minute, UCF scored on the goalline with a pass to an open receiver. Marshall got the ball back in good position to get into field-goal range, but on the last play the Marshall quarterback found himself being chased by two large Knights and he displayed all the grace of a new-born giraffe as he collapsed to the ground untouched as time expired. Torchy Clark had told stories about fantastic finishes in the heyday of the Knights basketball team, but this was the best finish I have witnessed in any UCF contest.

  • Great Game, Forgettable Venue

by nantrantatron on 10/21/09Bright House Networks Stadium - OrlandoRating: 2 out of 5

The parking is terrible with no clear markings or directions once you get on campus. The situation could have been greatly improved with appropriate signage, instead we had to stop and ask someone at one of the (full) lots. We arrived at 3:00 for a 7:30 game and it took us over 30 minutes to park. Tailgating was fun but I don't understand why, if there is a campus-wide open container waiver for tailgating, they do not sell beer inside the stadium. Seems to encourage a big binge right before you walk in... As for the stadium itself, it is fairly small but nice enough. The stands bounce like a trampoline when the crowd gets going, which is fun. The "big screen" for replays is very small though. I doubt UCF will be seeing very many big-ticket games like Miami in the future.

  • Too Bad O'Leary Sucks!

by DrewHanson on 10/20/09Bright House Networks Stadium - OrlandoRating: 4 out of 5

Game was lots fun. A little to many Miami fans got tickets. Game looked like it could have been competitive if O'Leary knew how to run an offense.

  • Confusing signage.....

by ExecSecLakeland on 10/20/09Bright House Networks Stadium - OrlandoRating: 1 out of 5

I attended that UCF-Miami football game on Saturday, Oct. 17th. The venue was a nightmare. Inadequate signs for parking......the one sign that we saw that said "Football Parking" pointed us to the right......we went that way......no way to get to parking.......led us back out to the main road. Had us and others going in circles. Very frustrating.

The parking was terrible and the walk to the stadium was longer than walking around disneyworld. UCF needs some help with there parking and there overall layout of there campus.

  • by Purffect on 10/19/09Bright House Networks Stadium - OrlandoRating: 5 out of 5

It was an exiting game to watch. UCF Knights gave UM the run for their money moments at the first half of the game. UCF had a good start, too bad they lost their monentum and strategies to win the game. UCF crowd was pleasant to be around. Their tailgating was very well organized. They do need to work on parking. We had to park accross the street and walk quite a bit to the stadium. However, the temperature was perfect so it wasn't a bother to walk the distance we had to walk. My daughter and her friend, and my husband and I had a great time. I wish the best to UCF football program.

  • Brighthouse Stadium rocks!

by jdsmomgator on 10/19/09Bright House Networks Stadium - OrlandoRating: 4 out of 5

It would have been a 5 star if UCF had won and it hadn't been soooooo cold!! Thank you to ticket master and UCF for printing tickets for us on site, because my husband forgot to bring them from WPB. The stadium is beautiful and the tailgating is phenomenal!! I would recommend a UCF game to anyone looking to have a good time.

  • Worst Traffic Arrangements Ever

by melkor72 on 10/18/09Bright House Networks Stadium - OrlandoRating: 1 out of 5

I have been to many stadiums, but UCF has to have the worst shuttle and traffic management I have ever experienced. The shuttles dropped people off 15 minutes from the stadium, in the middle of the UCF campus. No signs or staff indicated the direction the stadium was in, and it was not visible from the shuttle loading area. The wait for shuttles after the game ended was also extremely long, with cars backed up in the same line as the shuttle loading zone. Abysmal traffic management. UCF will have to improve on how they get people to and away from the game before I will ever consider attending another game.

  • Parking was terrible

by NOThappy1234 on 10/18/09Bright House Networks Stadium - OrlandoRating: 1 out of 5

I've never experienced a poorer parking situation in my life. The entire campus shut down because parking was gone and yet we had tickets and couldn't even get in to park. Our alternative? Parking more than a mile away. Why wouldn't UCF block the parking off to people who SHOWED they had tickets? more than half of the people there were only there to tailgate.. which left us with no where to park. We could NOT get in from anywhere and were forced to leave. Paid for tickets for NOTHING because we could NOT GET within 2 miles to even park.

  • Love the U!!!
