Tycho in Concert

Tycho is an audio visual project, band and the alias of graphic artist and musician Scott Hansen, aka ISO50.

As Tycho, Scott Hansen blends swirling melodies into vaguely triumphant arcs that crisscross between stuttering beats and vocal samples, creating rolling sonic landscapes that extend into the horizon. The San Francisco based Hansen began releasing music in the early 2000’s with The Science of Patterns EP. His first full-length, Sunrise Projector, came out in 2004, and the critical acclaim continued in 2006 with the release of Past Is Prologue. In 2011 Hansen’s meticulous process saw the release of Dive, the first record in a trilogy that was followed by Awake in 2014 and the GRAMMY® nominated Epoch in 2016.

Hansen expanded the scope of his project with the addition of vocalist Saint Sinner on 2019’s Weather, Tycho’s second GRAMMY® nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Album. That release was quickly followed by its instrumental companion record Simulcast, a collaboration with alt-R&B artist rum.gold and the Weather Remixes project all in 2020. In addition to his original works, Tycho has remixed Odesza & Leon Bridges, Maggie Rogers, Spoon, The Knocks & Muna, Little Dragon, Thievery Corporation and Death Cab For Cutie.

    Time to stay home.

    by Luke411 on 10/4/14Terminal 5 - New York

I hate warm up bands, especially when it is really a dj playing his programed computer or telling you he just played an unfinished song of his. Stay home then and finish it. I love Tycho music but there is not stage presence or personality on stage. I was curious as to how they would present their music on a stage. There was really no point in seeing them, only hearing them. They did perform for about an hour and half.

Tycho was great but preceeded by 2 hours of crap

by Anonymous on 10/3/14Royale Boston - Boston

Did not know Tycho would start playing at 10:15pm. Ticketmaster says the event starts at 8pm (which was when the doors open.) The sound quality for Christopher Willits play was terrible - a lot of clipping and painful low frequency resonance every few seconds that ruined Christopher's music.

If you ever have the opportunity to see this man in the flesh, sell your possessions and buy a ticket.

    Mad Chill Vibes

by miik on 10/2/14Royale Boston - Boston

The opener was weird AF, but Tycho pulled through with an awesome set. Despite being a Monday night, they had the crowd bumpin and swayin.

    Worth it. And then some.

by bout2bgone on 4/21/14Webster Hall - New York

I got there late- my fault. I'm used to opening acts going on at least an hour late and then the main act not starting until well after 10pm. Not so here. I got there at 9:30, expecting to catch the last couple songs of the openers, then have time to wander the venue and find my perfect spot. Tycho was a good way into their set by the time I got my beer and found my perch. A sign on the door showed their (Tycho) start time as 9:15. So I'm assuming they did (start then) as the crowd was already deeply entranced by the time I was able to see the stage. The venue was sold out. That's usually bad news (especially when planning on showing up late), but it took me all of two minutes to make my way through the crowd to the bar, another two to get my beer and another two to pay. Not bad for a sold out show. 5 minutes later, I was on the right side balcony with a full view of the main stage- only two people in front of me (lucily, they were short). There was no re-entry. But since the performance was so.... (lost for words, but in a good way), I forgot I was a social smoker (only when I'm drinking) and never even thought to go outside for a smoke and meet some fellow fans. Seriously- didn't even cross my mind, until the show was over. And then, all I wanted to do was sit in the audtitorium and bask in the happy afterglow the band left on the stage, and on the floor, and in the bathroom and on the ceilings- it was everywhere...and I don't do drugs. That damn good. Awesome light/video show- if you're a fan of Scott's artwork- it was well put together and complimented the music perfectly.

    Spectacular.

by MattyIce2323 on 7/19/12Webster Hall - New York

I honestly enjoyed this show, thoroughly. The location could not have been more exciting, as I don't often get a chance to visit both Manhattan and my friends from New York often, so Webster Hall ended up being the perfect location for an ambient group like Tycho. The lighting and sound quality was fit to a tee with the music, and the crowd was definitely enjoying the overall feeling of the concert. I would most certainly come back to Manhattan and more specifically Webster Hall for future concerts.

    Insanely Wonderful!

by TheBuffalo on 7/16/12Webster Hall - New York

Tycho killed it. The music, visuals, projections, humbleness, appreciation, passion, excitement...were all what made this show one of my all time favorite. It was one of the smallest shows I've seen but blew away the more known names spending millions on their tours.

    Great Live Set

by JTang on 2/6/12Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

The show was beyond my expectations. Having a backup band definitely added to the depth and richness of Tycho's complex soundscapes.

Tycho is who the Gods book for shows

by GortisKhan on 10/18/11Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

Tycho's sounds is huge. Just absolutely beautiful soundscapes backed by his aesthetically planned and wonderfully executed iso50 visual displays. The live band was something I was slightly nervous for, as I had seen several other artists (i.e Toro and Washed Out) who use a band for their live performance, which generally changes the feel for a lot of the bedroom sound production. However, I thought the instruments were used in a tasteful manner. Although not as tight as it could have been, as there were definitely areas that need to be cleaned up, it still sounded great. The thing I loved most about finally getting to see Tycho was the intimacy and connectedness of this show. When you listen to this on record, you may think that God himself is conjuring up these moments of audio bliss, and then you see the man behind it all on stage. Believe it or not Tycho is human, and that's the coolest part; That a mortal person could make these songs and play them live while he is feeling sick and still owning the stage. Tycho will get bigger and bigger, and anyone who was in Brooklyn on Sunday is lucky to have had a glimpse of this set.
