  • Fun night but unimpressed

by Not worth the admission price on 12/19/24Ames Center - BurnsvilleRating: 3 out of 5

We paid Orpheum prices for a community theater production. Most of the dancers did not do full toe, leg lifts didn’t even get to hip level….we decided this must be some sort of thing where people pay to learn ballet and then they have the end of year performance. That’s what this felt like.

  • Won’t be back

by Kristen on 12/18/24Ames Center - BurnsvilleRating: 2 out of 5

We’ve been coming to this Nutcracker for years and used to love it. But they’ve taken the ‘Minnesota’ theme too far. The Native American music was highly inappropriate, and the kids dance more like a recital than a professional ballet. We’re finding a new tradition next year, we miss the traditional characters and colorful costumes.

  • 2024 Nutcracker

by Tom on 12/17/24Ames Center - BurnsvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Wonderful experience, as always. The enthusiasm and smiles on my granddaughter's facesmade the experience perfect. When the dancer came into the audience and gave my granddaughter's a chocolate treat during intermission the evening became one they will remember the rest of their lives. Thank you some much to the dancers for all the work they put into making this an evening my entire family will remember for a very long time.

  • Excellent

Loved it!! I hate to say but I didn’t care for the new additions. The Loons and mosquitoes were weird and the flute, though beautiful took away from the beautiful music. I appreciate the effort for inclusivity but it just didn’t fit. Everything else was wonderful though!!

  • Very well done except

by Christmas Tradition on 12/16/24Ames Center - BurnsvilleRating: 4 out of 5

We think the presentation was very well done, dancers, costumes and music. However we feel that the addition and over use of using "native american"flute into the musical score was "heavy handed"and "forced". A little less use and a little softer would make the addition of this instrument into the performance much more seamless and enjoyable. Otherwise the show was fabulous.

  • Wonderful Minnesota Nutcracker

by mommafive on 12/16/23Ames Center - BurnsvilleRating: 5 out of 5

We attended the Twin Cities Ballet performance of A Minnesota Nutcracker at the Ames Theater in Burnsville. It was as beautiful and magical as always. The ballet is skillfully and wonderfully danced, the costumes are gorgeous. The sets are wonderful. The special Minnesota touches make it fun and special while maintaining the wonderful story. The Ames theater is a beautiful space, and the setting in Burnsville is so pretty with all the trees decked out in lights. It is a very special event.

This was a fabulous show! The Minnesota twists were so much fun! The costuming was outstanding too, we had great seats so were able to really appreciate the. The dancing was super and liked the length of the production. Some Nutcrackers are a bit too long….. great job!
