King Tut exhibit worth your time and money

by DrJCG on 1/2/11Denver Art Museum - Denver

I have seen many Egyptian artifacts at museums here and in England, but never such a carefully selected exhibit. Each piece could be viewed from all angles, to fully appreciate the amazing workmanship. The Audio tour was very helpful in setting the time, culture and history of the pieces. While I found the gold mask, the alabaster vases and jewelry beautiful to behold, indeed, I was most fascinated by the wooden furniture. The bed and chair on display melted the 3000 years between them and us. People. Probably not so different.

Tutanlhamun the Golden King and the Great Pharaohs

by Gaely on 1/2/11Denver Art Museum - Denver

Our many thanks to Egypt, the Denver Art Museum, and all involved bringing this event to Denver. This is perhaps a once in a lifetime event in Denver and we were very priviledged to be able to see it. These artifacts have interested us since we were children and now in a very small way we have experienced what Howard Carter must have experienced. Like all wonders of the world, reading and studing these items and ancient peoples, cannot compare to actually seeing the items in person. The tour was fabulous and the display capsulated the artifacts beautifully, from the graphics, video, and narrators chosen, movie at the end, and keepsake coffee table book. This was a magnificant exibition. Thanks to everyone involved from its conception to final presentation.

Not hearing impaired friendly at all

by Springs2 on 1/2/11Denver Art Museum - Denver

The overall exhibit was smaller than we had anticipated. It really was just a collection of the smaller items -- none of the larger or more impressive items other than one statue and one of the gold face/neck protectors. It was very crowded, and the audio tour was not very loud, and will only work with hearing aids that have T-coils, so it was a complete waste of time for our son.

    crowded

by pvgo on 1/2/11Denver Art Museum - Denver

FAR too crowded to have any time or ability to read the placards. No chance whatsoever to see even 1/2 the items. Our tour was 2 hours long just seeing each audio tour item. Very disappointing!

There were so many people that you could not get close to the exhibits. The flow of people should have been spaced differently. I saw the King Tut exhibit in Cairo and this exhibit was sorely lacking.

I was disappointed. The Tut exhibit that came in the 1970's had much more from the find than this one.

    King Tut

by Butterfly752 on 1/2/11Denver Art Museum - Denver

The exhibit was excellent except the greeters should tell people that there is no restroom around the exhibit and you can't leave to go to the restroom because there is no re-entry. The exhibit was also too crowded -- fewer people should be allowed to enter at the scheduled times. Also, when I was in the gift shop, I had to prove that I had spent over $30 in the gift shop to get a handled bag. They said otherwise it would have cost be $1. That's a little ridiculous since exhibit tickets were $35 each.

    Nice King Tut Exhibit

by rolfecat on 1/1/11Denver Art Museum - Denver

Enjoyed the Tutankhamun exhibit, good pace, nice artifacts, but I was hoping to see more artifacts directly related to Tutankhamun rather than added filler artifacts from so many other pharoahs. there really didn't seem to be many of the larger featured artifacts from the Tut tomb. I was very disappointed that Tut's funerary masks were not present in the exhibit. Enjoyed Harrison Ford as the narrator in the audo. That being said, I thought the advertising was somewhat misleading since I was expecting more substantial Tut artifacts, and thus I think the price of the exhibit was a bit over-priced.

    King Tut was amazing!!

by DeeJay4543 on 1/1/11Denver Art Museum - Denver

I wanted my kids to see the King Tut exhibit before it left Denver. I was so glad we went. My youngest who is dyslexic did the audio tour and I was amazed at what she learned. She hasn't stopped talking about all the information she learned about the history of Egypt. We all came out of there in awe! I would recommend everyone see the King Tut exhibit.

    Overpriced

by Cbethlynn on 1/1/11Denver Art Museum - Denver

It was awesome to see all of the artifacts, however there were far too many people crammed into a small space with lots of crying babies all at once. It was difficult to see everything. I do feel the price was about twice as much as it should be. I expected a lot more for my money. If the price would have been half what I paid I would have given great reviews, but I feel I overpaid and the crowds were too great and I didnt get the experience expected for the high dollar paid.

    Great Tour of King Tut

by MMHBoulder on 1/1/11Denver Art Museum - Denver

Really interesting exhibit. The family thought it was well worth it. It was very crowded so you have to be patient. Use the restroom before you start the tour.

Calling this a 'King Tut' exhibit is a bit of a misnomer. The show content was about 50% 'Tut' and the remainder other Pharaohs. Very nice pieces and history, but not the 'Tut' exhibit I saw in the 1970s.

Interesting but crowds detracted from experience

by COgirls on 12/31/10Denver Art Museum - Denver

My daughter and I were looking forward to this exhibit, but we were both put off by the crowds. We have attended special events before and enjoyed them. At this event, there were crowds at every exhibit. I wonder if they were letting more people in as it was nearing the end of the tour. As it was, you had to wait in line over and over again!

Wanted to see King Tut for 25years

I missed the first time the exhibit came through the US and was not going to miss this one. Wonderful....all that I expected it to be.

The actual items on display at the King Tut exhibit were good and the audio tour was well done. So why 3 stars and a do not recommend? It was difficult to see anything because of THE CROWDS!! The museum completely oversold the event. We circled for 15 minutes to find parking because the garage and all of the nearby lots were full - luckily we got there early enough. We reached the museum at 1:05pm with tickets for 1:30pm and were told to go straight into a line. We stood in that line until 2:15pm when we were finally let into the exhibit. It was so crowded that it was difficult to see any item for more than a few seconds before others pushed their way closer. For the amount of money I paid (almost $100!!) for 3 tickets, I expected to be able to see what I paid for - what a dissapointment. The Denver Art Museum could take some lessons from the Museum of Nature and Science when dealing with large crowds - I've never had a problem there.

Tutankhamun is a Golden King Indeed!

by Aparrotsister on 12/31/10Denver Art Museum - Denver

What a fabulous exhibit! So MANY pieces! All incredibly beautiful and in such excellent condition. The collection is just incredible and so very well presented. I was glad I had rented the audio phones. The narrator is Harrison Ford and also other (real) renowned explorers tell stories about various artifacts. It was quite interesting. Also I recommend the 3-D movie on Egypt! It too is very informative and well done. Since it is a very large collection and there is limited space, we had to wait in line to enter for almost 40 minutes before we actually entered the exhibition hall, and because it was the second to last week, and also Christmas break for most people, it was very crowded. And there were very few places (I am sure by design) where one can sit for a few minutes and rest, so be prepared to be standing for at least two hours or more if you go to this exhibit. We were actually about one hour into the exhibit before any kind of bench appeared. So if you have trouble standing for long periods, be forewarned.

    Frustrating Waste of Time

by joezipo on 12/31/10Denver Art Museum - Denver

The first issue was finding parking. They recommend parking in their parking lot, however, it was full so you end up driving endlessly trying to find a lot with an opening. Then they will not let you print tickets on line so you either have to have them delivered or wait in the long line for will call. They provide a time window to get entry to the event, however, you end up waiting in a long line to get in. I think there was an unexpected backup the day we went so this might not be normal. However, they seem to let too many people into the exhibit at one time and it is extremely hard to see all the items and read/listen about them. The layout of the show causes people to congregate at the entrance to each part of the display which makes the crowding even worse. I was also disappointed in the amount of items in the display. The whole event would make me think twice about ever attending another event at the Denver Art Museum.
