I wanted to go to a Raggea concert and dig some grooves. I have heard of some of Toots stuff before but didn't know it was Toots. To start off I have went to alot of big name concerts that cost $50.00 or more. By no way could they compare to this show. I have seen better light shows but thats not why I go to concerts. Toots gave it his all. The coolest thing is you do not even have to know the songs to feel like your apart of the vibe. Toots coaches the audience on what to say or how the chant is going to go. I felt like I had been listening to Toots for years. The energy I felt was awsome. I have never felt that at a concert before. At times I felt like I was at black baptist church praising the lord. I am still awe struck by the power this show had. I just hope that Toots will be around for my son to expierence it. You need to go, for a $25.00 fee is so minimal for what you get from Toots and the Maytals. NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE YOU NEED TO SEE THIS CONCERT. The crowd is a mix of people. You have 60 year olds down to your 18 year old. You have your hippies, to your yuppies, your average college kid, to your blue collars. You have your Ska freaks that look like they came from a Sex Pistol concert. You have your whites, your blacks, your asains, and indians. I have never seen such a diverse crowd. It was a true show by which I now hold the standard high for the next shows I see.
Sometimes you find it hard to believe that at age 70 plus, he's still goin' strong.Toots still knows how to lay down the funky reggae that made him famous, and added extended versions to all his tracks last night. Saw him out at the Minnesota Zoo last July, and this show was the hands down winner. Keep it up...and don't let the "Pressure Drop"!!!
Way cool show. All the band members were having a great time right along with all of us. Can't wait to see them again!
I thought that the show would be bordering on too mellow, but that was not the case. Even on the most mellow tracks were thoroughly rocked out before the end of the song. The backup singers are so beautiful and fun to watch.
The show started an hour late but it was well worth the wait. Great performer and all around awesome show.
What an amazing show! The positive energy was everywhere! Their was not a person at the showbox not feeling irie! Toots, you still got in going on! This band is well worth seeing and dancing too! Please hurry back to Seattle! We love you!
Although Toots puts on a great fun show everytime, the sound quality of this show was horrible. Not only was there feedback on stage from the monitors, but the main PA was also feeding back. The vocals wer terrible on every song, all high mids, it did not sound natural. The guitar sound was also butchered, not full and rich, but thin and inconsistant. The bass and lower frequencies were way to muddy and it was hard to tell what was going on there. Basically, through the whole show the mid high frequencies were loud and harsh. This was a very poorly mixed show, there was no clarity throughout the mix.
Tough one for Toots, he is showing his age. Also, was overcharged. ended up paying 47$ , could have paid 32$ at the door. what a rip off.
The most unforgettable, hi-powered show! Toots and the Maytals are an outstanding reggae band with passion, talent and love.
One of the best shows of all time. They had the entire place involved and it was fantastic. If u ever get a chance to see them, u must go. You will not be disappointed.
Fun show! Toots amazing! Fight in the crowd but only lasted less than a minute, security was on it in a flash! Thanks guys!
This was my second time to see Toots and the Maytals and they didn't disappoint. Toots is getting up there in age, but he continues to put on a great show. He didn't play alot of old school stuff, but that's alright. Toots is a guy who seems to genuinely take pride in putting on a good show, he gets the crowd into the performance and it really contributes to a fun atmosphere.
Great venue and Toots just is the greatest! I think he's 65 now and his voice is as clear as it was in the 60's. Doesn't move as well, but who cares? Band was great and he really had the crowd going.
It was an amazing show! The atmosphere was absolutely electric and invigorating. Toots had an incredible amount of energy and was in great voice. The band was rock solid and provided a great backdrop for him to do his thing. Toots is one of the last of the great influential reggae masters still around( Jimmy Cliff being the other). If you get the chance , you HAVE to see him!!!
I was so exciting to see Toots and the Maytals up close and personal in such a small venue. They came on kind of late but jammed and had the crowd jumping until 2am!! What a great show! Toots never disappoints!
opening band sucked, but toots put on a kick $#@ show. very high energy, sung all the classics. only thing i didnt like about the show was no horn section. all horns were pre-recorded or done by keyboard player. will not miss this show if it ever comes back to houston. house of blues is a very nice venue, but $7.50 for a 16 ounce beer was horrible. cmon man dont they know we are in a recession!!!
Unbelievable show. Great music, dancing, and crowd interaction. Definitely my favorite show of the year!
Overall a great gig - some excellent old ska and reggae tracks played so well they sounded as fresh as they did in the 60's. Only critisism is that a few of the numbers went on....and on....and on. Also,....man, that guy loves himself!
This was hands-down one of the best shows I've ever been to. I was at Jazz Fest all day and this far surpassed any act I've ever seen in all 26 years I've lived in New Orleans. Toots, you put on one heck of a show!
