About

The Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl is an annual college football game held in El Paso, Texas. Established in 1935, the first Sun Bowl was played between two Texas high school teams, but moved to a collegiate-level matchup the following year. The Sun Bowl is tied for the second-oldest active college football bowl game and has historically been played on or around New Year’s Eve. Hosted on the University of Texas at El Paso campus since 1938, the Sun Bowl switched to its current home at Sun Bowl Stadium when construction was completed in 1963. The Sun Bowl was initially home to the former Border Conference, but as of 2011, the two opponents are selected from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and the Pac-12 Conference. In 2025, the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl game will kick off on December 31 at Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso, Texas.

  • Time to Modernize

Expected more. Expected the seat mumbers to be readable. It's not too much to ask for when seats are assigned. Expected to be able to call for an Uber when we were ready to leave. Instead, a handicapped man had to negotiate stairs and walk at least a quarter mile before getting a cell phone signal. Do better Tony the Tiger.

Cousin and I found Plenty of parking in the garage and we didnt even arrive that early. Could be more interactive things to do at the pregame field. Bring back a Live band as in previous years before, during and after the game. Great to see tailgaters. In the stadium their was plenty of food choices and beer. Was good to see a few beer bucket sellers in the stand. Would have liked to see more ushers helping with greeting and seating in the stands but all businesses are having shortages now. The game itself was awesome , great to see the Sun Bowl get this last Cousin and I found Plenty of parking in the garage and we didnt even arrive that early. Fabulous energy and enthusiasm from fans, mascots, cheerleaders, bands - despite the rain, the mood was uplifting. So glad I went.

  • Best Players were missing

by Paul D on 1/3/22Sun Bowl Stadium - El PasoRating: 2 out of 5

In a new era of players doing what is best for them and not what is best for the team, the best players are now skipping bowl opportunities to focus on the NFL draft. Those are the type of me, me, me players we're now sending to the NFL, and yet another reason to never watch the NFL again. And it now seems likely I won't attend another bowl game again either.

  • Rain Bowl

by CJ on 1/3/22Sun Bowl Stadium - El PasoRating: 5 out of 5

It wasn’t the famous sunny bowl, it rained and rained. Good game though!

  • Sunny disposition at the Sun Bowl

by Herd7483 on 1/9/20Sun Bowl Stadium - El PasoRating: 4 out of 5

Weather was great cool but sunny, parking was no problem thanks to personnel at the stadium. People tail-gating everywhere sharing food, talking smack but getting along. Atmosphere in the stadium was fantastic, our seats were right by the north endzone and every time Florida State made a play in that area the players looked up in the stands and did the "Tomahawk chop." The night before we went to the "Battle of the Bands" at the El Paso Convention Center and it was awesome. We were so close to the band, mascots, cheerleaders, percussion sections and drum majors. The environment was electric. Overall experience was great, family had an awesome time well worth it and enjoyed our New Years holiday.

The partnership with Tony the Tiger really improved the overall experience! The half-time show still needs to be better. POD performance was good but it general the show needs to improved.

Good teams played at Sun Bowl. Luckily we had great weather for the game. Lots of fans filled the stadium and gave a warm welcome to both teams. Enjoyed mascots interacting with the fans. Tony the Tiger did a good job of walking and dancing around visiting with fans. Will probably go again next year.

Great game and atmosphere. The only complaint could be slow vendir lines, but other than that no issues.

  • Great fan experience

by C. on 1/3/20Sun Bowl Stadium - El PasoRating: 5 out of 5

I played in this bowl game in 2004 and wasn’t thrilled about it as a player visiting El Paso and 15 years later I went to cheer on my Team and I was pleasantly surprised how much I not only enjoyed the game but the city of El Paso and nearby Las Cruces. Was a easy drive from Phoenix for Sun Devil fans. Anytime my Devils play in this game I’ll be back!

  • Great experience and friendly people.

  • Sun Bowl 2018

by Art on 1/3/19Hyundai Sun Bowl - El PasoRating: 5 out of 5

Every year, I buy tickets to the Sun Bowl game for anywhere from 5 to 10 people so we can enjoy the game. This year was no different. We had a blast enjoying our company amongst friends and even involving some strangers that were near us. The game itself was incredible. The score was very close and it was good to see it was not a blowout. The weather was a little chilly which is why there were a lot of empty seats. That was disappointing. Transportation to and from the game provided by Sun Metro is always a big part of going to the game and not having to worry about parking. All I can say is we will see you next year!
