About

The Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl is an annual college football game held in El Paso, Texas. Established in 1935, the first Sun Bowl was played between two Texas high school teams, but moved to a collegiate-level matchup the following year. The Sun Bowl is tied for the second-oldest active college football bowl game and has historically been played on or around New Year’s Eve. Hosted on the University of Texas at El Paso campus since 1938, the Sun Bowl switched to its current home at Sun Bowl Stadium when construction was completed in 1963. The Sun Bowl was initially home to the former Border Conference, but as of 2011, the two opponents are selected from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and the Pac-12 Conference. In 2025, the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl game will kick off on December 31 at Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso, Texas.Β

I had an amazing experience at the Sun bowl. I was able to find last minute tickets for the game & watch some awesome touchdown.

  • Not a functional facility

by Nuni on 1/3/24Sun Bowl Stadium - El PasoRating: 3 out of 5

The Sun Bowl is a historic event but the place itself has not improved their facilities since the first time I attended in 2000. The lines are always long and you will lose about 30-45 minutes. The seats need improvement also. I witnessed an argument because of the missing numbers on the seats.

I wanted to purchase a nice shirt as a souvenir from the Sun Bowl game. Unfortunately, I couldn't make the purchase because they only accepted cash payments. I rely on my debit or credit card for daily transactions and they didn't have a card machine available. This left me feeling very disappointed that I couldn't buy the shirt.

The city of El Paso was very welcoming. The stadium sits in a scenic mountain making it a memorable event.

  • Longs too long for food, merchandise

by CindiM on 1/1/24Sun Bowl Stadium - El PasoRating: 3 out of 5

While I understand there was a sellout crowd, it seems the Sun Bowl wasn't organized particularly well for purchasing merchandise. We only saw one table, and the line was unbelievably long. I remember where there would be a few tables on each side, lessening the wait. People were missing an entire quarter waiting for a t-shirt. And then the computer crashed, and you could only use cash. The best time to purchase food and merch was before the game started. I'm not sure what the end game was to only have one merchant for t-shirts, caps, etc.

Two good teams , A SELLOUT CROWD and great weather . That was the best part . Sunbowl comity treated this game as if it was a UTEP crowd game because concession stands were slower than usual creating super long lines. Spent a second quarter in line only to get within a couple of feet to see a very small hand written sign β€œcash only”. Towards end of third quarter try again different concession stand . They ran out of food items still super slow order takers were confused . The only line that is moving fairly fast , concession lady shuts that line down . I informed her this is the only line that is moving the other are slow . Her answer β€œtoo bad” At the parking areas (tailgates ) GR2 same amount 5 porta potties as A UTEP game. for the amount of people that were there walking around lines were super long . The game sold out fairly quickly for that bad planning .

  • Great experience!

by Veronica on 1/1/24Sun Bowl Stadium - El PasoRating: 5 out of 5

This was my second time attending a SB, and the experience was amazing. It’s so great to see a lot of people joining together for the love of football; even for away teams. The only thing that is needed is more staff upon entering the stadium, there was like 6 staff members and that’s why the lines got all crowded. That made the wait longer. And ofcourse, more parking! That day was hectic to find one. Other than that, great event, hope there’s more in the future. Go Notredame!

  • Good and Bad!!

by Fan on 1/1/24Sun Bowl Stadium - El PasoRating: 3 out of 5

The process of getting tickets and a handicapped parking pass were very easy!! The game, itself, was great! I stood in two lines for beer, where they ran out!! But, the worst thing was the complete lack of porta-potties!!! They needed far more than they had!!!! I stood in lines 20 people deep to go to the restroom!!!!! It was absurd; very poor planning!!!!!!!

  • No parking

by KM on 1/1/24Sun Bowl Stadium - El PasoRating: 1 out of 5

I am new to El Paso and was excited to plan for my first event at the sun bowl. I did not comprehend that this venue does not have enough parking to accommodate a full stadium. I have frequented LSU Death Valley and could have never predicted this disaster. We searched for a LEGAL parking for one hour before we gave up. 3 miles in the vicinity businesses were actively booting vehicles in their lots. Awful experienceβ€” we watched the game 5 miles away at a sports bar.

Parking was crazy didn't enforce no tailgating rule cop sent me away from my Parking lot that I paid for came back and refused to leave until he let me in. Shouldn't have to argue for spot I paid for
