    Best Play Ever

    by JohnnyV on 8/13/23

This production of To Kill a Mockingbird is the best play that I have ever seen. The acting was outstanding and the format was excellent. There is never a dull moment. The only negative comment that I have is about the seats in the CIBC theater. They need to be replaced. After 5 minutes my legs, back, shoulders and neck were hurting. I know that I'm not the only person who experienced the pain. My wife and the folks sitting around us shared the pain.

As great as the Gregory Peck version.

I absolutely loved this show. Everyone was so on spot. I couldn't pick one person that I liked more than the other. These actors were fantastic!

    Fantastic!

    by Sibby on 8/12/23

We found the play to be deeply moving and applicable in many ways to our current climate. Actors were superb in my opinion. Only complaint would be difficult to hear some of the actors, not sure if the actor or sound system. Some in attendance commented the play was not exactly as the book. I would agree, but I personally did not mind & found differences to be subtle. Regardless, I highly recommend & actually made me interested in reading the book again. Highly recommend to everyone

The theater has everything down to a science. Very helpful staff. The play was amazing! The entire staff was incrediable but Richard Thomas made this play shine. The standing ovation they recieved was well deserved.

    Excellent

    by Chi-Town Thespian on 8/12/23

This was a n interesting take on TKAM. The first act was more humorous than the book. Which was both entertaining and off putting at times for such a sensitive story. But the writing and acting was so fantastic I can only give this a 10/10. Well done!

    Fabulous

    by Meiermom on 8/12/23

Richard Thomas was perfect for the role! A beautiful performance of a serious subject with hope for the future! I never sat in an auditorium that was so quiet… that you could actually hear a pin drop! Thank you, John-Boy!

    Mediocre

    by Kimchi on 8/12/23

If I were at a high school production, it would warrant a “good enough” —however for a professional production it didn’t hit the mark. Richard Thomas seemed to to rushing thru and at times yelling his lines like he didn’t have a microphone. He did not project a quiet empathy, strength of character, intelligence or just being a good dad. Lines were added —saying thank you to his housekeeper, yet keeping the n’ word and saying as many times as possible (yes I know it’s in the book) but if you are going to rewrite a book for a play and add words, then think about deleting them as well…especially if you are going to add comedy. We didn’t see Boo Radley until the last scene and he was integral to the storyline. The supporting cast was fine…the actor playing Scout did a good job at being a kid, as did the ones playing Dill and Jem. The sets were creative and I found the ever changing swiveling doors, chairs and walls to be the most exciting part of the entire play. Granted filling the shoes of Gregory Peck would be difficult, but I would have liked to have seen the Jeff Daniels or Greg Kinnear productions for comparison. Richard Thomas was just too wooden. Scouts’ story telling and interactions with Atticus makes you admire Atticus more—this just didn’t happen at this performance.

    Overcome by Story and Acting

    by Dr. Linda on 8/12/23

My husband and I love theatre and are partial to musicals but I decided to expand our live theatre interest by getting tickets to the current production of To Kill A Mockingbird. We were in the audience last Wednesday and were surprised by how relevant the story was in this current climate but especially were touched by the superb acting. The lead, particularly, as well as the three narrators, were beyond talented. It was a once in a lifetime experience and I am thankful the play came to Chicago. Wish it had been extended because all the people we informed were dismayed to find the production was sold out.

    Disappointing

    by Sam on 8/12/23

Richard Thomas was excellent, as always. But the children were played by actors way too old for these roles. Scout is 28, Jem 42! These are pivotal roles, especially in this production, so disappointing that they weren't believable. Also, this is a very quiet show. It was disturbing to hear people in the theater lobby talking loudly. So much so that it was sometimes difficult to hear the actors.

    Wonderful play!

    by City girl on 8/12/23

This was an excellent and thought provoking experience. Its ideas are as relevant today unfortunately) as they eere in the 1930’s. All the actors were great. The humor provided relief to the very serious story. I’d highly recommend it.

This was theater at its best! All of the cast members were outstanding, especially Richard Thomas as Atticus and the girl that played Scout. Being familiar with the story, my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the performance.
