We are longtime fans of both performers and have followed their careers from the beginning. One of us grew up in the same town as Amy. We were disappointed by the performance. Both seemed unprepared for the performance, like they grabbed their sweaters and ran to the theater to be on time. There was little advanced preparation done for the bits, much of which involved them dismissing and throwing out ideas that had been provided for their topics of discussion. The nature of it, improv, is something we both enjoy a lot. But the lack of thinking it out and failure of structure was annoying. It was more personal appearance than a real show. A lot of dead air. Seems that Amy and Tina didn’t have a hand in the writing and preparation. And it showed. Sorry to be direct and blunt. A Lowell girl can take it. And Tina is smart enough to improve from criticism.
The ladies did an amazing job as always. It was just very difficult to hear them at times especially when people were laughing which was pretty much always happening. It wasn't just me. I was constantly hearing everyone around me saying, "What did they say?"
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are some of my favorite comedians, but the show was unfortunately really underwhelming. It felt like they weren't prepared and just came up with something 20 minutes before the show. I only laughed a few times, and that might be because they weren't really trying to be funny, as they stated from the beginning of the show. This would be ok had the show not been under the "Netflix is a joke" festival. I was expecting some comedy and what I got was two friend talking about random stuff.
Funny and talented performers. Enjoyed the show. Parking experience was chaotic but quick. I will never have floor seats at this theatre because you can’t see the stage well (7th row) so you end up looking up at the screens the whole time and it was even worse for my sorry mom, but overall good experience.
Really disappointing, perhaps our our expectations were too high. It started 30 mins late, Taylor Tomlinson opened—maybe to get the audience excited and in the right mood? She went on for about a half hour or so. Then (finally) Amy & Tina came onto stage. It was billed as a “conversation”—and they ‘warned’ us they were not stand up comedians—but it seemed like the was really no preparation. They had questions divided into categories dispersed in large bowls. They would pull a piece of paper from a category and if they felt like answering the question they would, but if not, they would throw the paper out and get a new one. This got a bit old after a while. It didn’t help that our seats were really uncomfortable. We were in the front section which was cool, but the seats were temporary seats that were moves in and out depending on the event. Oh well.
Tina and Amy were incredible. They were so funny they brought us all back to their old SNL days they made us laugh Daytona stories they did a little bit of improv they did their monologues it was super funny and exactly what I was after from the show with the two of them if that’s the headline
SoFi Stadium was great. There was a DJ and 5 food trucks and installations for photos ops. We arrived early and found plenty of ways to entertain ourselves until the main event. Taylor Tomlinson was the opening act. She came on stage at 8:30 and was on point and funny. The audience was with her. Tina and Amy came on to the stage around 9. The idea was that they were to have a conversation. It could have worked but it was slow. Bowls filled with slips of paper with prepared questions on each slip was the way they chose their topics. Many of the questions were not read because the comediennes chose to not answer. Some of the question interaction was funny ( good audience response) but other times either the sound system was not designed for this type of performance or the jokes fell flat. Amy’s impressions were the highlight of the night. We had hoped for more antidotal stories about SNL. To us it came across as totally off the cuff but some preparation was needed to carry this “conversation” to the stage.
What an experience! I quite enjoyed these two masters doing improv and conversation with each other. Knowing that this would be a rare event, I quickly got tickets. They did not disappoint.
We were very excited to see Tina and Amy live but there was a lack of planning that was evident. The set was inconvenient for them constantly getting up and down to pick questions they didn't want to answer. They should not have done improv if they can't! Amy saved the day with a couple small acts. They needed a writer and set decorator. Sorry we paid for that!
I realize they’re not stand-up comedians but the stand-up comedian who opened for them was much funnier.
It was like hanging out as friends with Tina and Amy!
Hilarious and fun. Wish that Steve Martin would do a book signing now...
I, too believed the show was going to be equal time spent by Ms Fey and Mr. Martin discussing their respective books. Being the great entertainers and professionals they are, it still was a very fun and enjoyable evening. It was also unfortunate to have to share space and parking with the rowdy hockey fans. It took the "class" down a knotch.
I felt very privileged to be in the room (very big room with 7000 or so people) to listen in on the conversation with Tina Fey and Steve Martin. I did not know that KCET and KPCC held Live Talks, but I am going to look into more of these as they showed a montage of past Live Talks before the show. Tina's history from The Second City improv group, touring in a van to SNL to 30 Rock and her movies was fasinating. Must. Buy. Book. Both Tina and Steve are pure class -- so intelligent, so funny, such great timing. We LAUGHED all night. Thank you.
They only spoke for an hour. Too short for two comic geniuses.
If I had any one complaint, it would be about cost, particular of parking and food. Not appropriately priced for the current economic climate. :) Otherwise, the show was fantastic. Tina Fey and Steve Martin were both hilarious!
It was a packed house. Steve Martin was a little bit all over the map with his questions but Tina Fey is so sharp, witty and self-deprecating. He read bits of her book...so funny. She's a great interview. They make a cool comedic pair. Audience spent a lot of time laughing, very respectful and listened intently to every word. Wish it could have lasted longer than an hour!
Been a Steve Martin fan for many years and recently a fan of Tina - because, you know, she is younger and newer to the scene. No offense Steve - I am older than her as well. Considering the fame that Steve has accomplished, he was a very gracious interviewer. There was mutual respect between these two comedic giants. Tina was personable and Steve was his usual witty self. Great insight into the entertainment industry. Technical difficulties did not distract from the show. Would have been nice if it were longer but it was worth cutting it short as I got Tina to sign her book for me. Then when I get home after the show - Tina is on Conan. Tina is ubiquitous. And Tina - if you are reading this - please put this review in your next book. I am a struggling writer and at least then I will be published. Thank you.
You could see how comfortable Tina Fey was with Steve Martin , He being an author too asked good questions and with his quick wit read great excerps from the Tina Fey book.Tina was a great sport she held her clip on mic for 90 minutes.
