Three Dog Night on Tour

Legendary band, Three Dog Night, now in its fifth decade, claims some of the most astonishing statistics in popular music. In the years 1969 through 1974, no other group achieved more top 10 hits, moved more records or sold more concert tickets than Three Dog Night.

Three Dog Night hits weave through the fabric of pop culture today, whether on the radio where they are heard day in and day out, in TV commercials or in major motion pictures -- songs like "Mama Told Me (Not To Come)", "Joy to the World", "Black and White", "Shambala" and "One" serve to heighten our emotions and crystallize Three Dog Night's continuing popularity.

This Grammy-nominated band is not content resting on its legacy alone. Always working to expand its audience, Three Dog Night has embraced and been embraced by 21st century music technology. New and existing fans buy Three Dog Night's music on iTunes as well as at record stores. In fact, releases from this decade alone have sold well over a million copies.

Three Dog Night also pushed boundaries by recording with the London Symphony Orchestra, giving fans new and old a chance to experience its dynamic performances of the hits as well as several new songs. The project, recorded at the famous Abbey Road studios in London and released to coincide with the band's 35th Anniversary, added exciting new orchestral arrangements to Three Dog Night's signature sound.

Three Dog Night maintains an aggressive, year-round touring schedule of over 70 dates a year. The hit filled concerts are performed for generation-spanning audiences by Danny Hutton (founder/lead vocalist) and Michael Allsup (guitar) with Paul Kingery (bass/vocals), Pat Bautz (drums),) David Morgan (vocals) and Howard Lavarea (keyboards). The band's now-famous name refers to native Australian hunters in the outback who huddled with their dogs for warmth on cold nights; the coldest being a "Three Dog Night".

Boasting chart and sales records that are virtually unmatched in popular music Three Dog Night had 21 consecutive Top 40 hits, including 3 #1 singles, 11 Top 10's, 18 straight Top 20's, 7 million-selling singles and 12 straight RIAA Certified Gold LPs. The hits appeared on best-selling charts in all genres (pop, rock and country). Its records Three Dog Night Page 2 continue to sell around the world, reaching beyond the borders of the U.S. into Japan, Canada, Holland, England, Germany, Spain and elsewhere. Tens of millions of Three Dog Night records have been sold through the years.

Created in 1968 by Danny Hutton Three Dog Night recorded the music of the best (and mostly undiscovered) new songwriters of their time including Harry Nilsson, Randy Newman, Elton John, Laura Nyro, Paul Williams and Hoyt Axton among many others. The group's eclectic taste, combined with their ability to recognize and record hits in a unique, distinctive and appealing style, resulted in Three Dog Night dominating the charts for years.

Now, marking 50 years on the road Three Dog Night continues to grow its fan base by keeping up a full schedule of concerts at theaters, performing arts centers, fairs, festivals, corporate events, and casinos. Since 1986, the band has performed over 2,500 shows including two Super Bowls.

    Gotta See Three Dog Night

by FunTunes on 8/10/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

The Three Dog Night concert at OC Fair was short and sweet. I would like to hear additional songs they wrote, but other musicians made popular. Great music. Great listening. Overall I had a Great Time! I will definitely see Three Dog Night again.

    Tight!

by Inka on 8/10/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

The show was great. Three Dog Night knew the demographics of their audience (unlike Stever Miller who I saw and could have cared less) and !played all of their hits from the 70's. The band was tight, well rehersed, vocals excellent and just plain entertaining. The one downside was that the show was due to start at 8:00 sharp and I think that they came on stage at about 8:20. Curfew at the Pacific Ampitheatre is 9:30, so the show was just a bit over one hour. The tickets were $12.50 each-so I am not complaining. If you are a fan of this band, it is a "for sure"

    Loved them in the 70's

by cleats on 8/10/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

I thought Three Dog Night was ok. None of the songs rocked me out of my seat though. They came out late and didn't play one of my favorite songs "Eli's coming". The reason I went was because I enjoyed them 35 years ago. I'm not sure if I would pay to see them again.

    Three Dog Night

by onardem on 8/10/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

Three Dog Night was right on cue. They were faultess musically. They talked to the audience and were even amusing in their reminiscing about when the songs were originally written and released. They commented that a fan once told them that "Mama Told Me Not To Come" was the original Rap song, and then inserted a Rap portion in the middle. Very amusing. Too bad the venue is so strict about the time limit of the show, it was too short. I am certain they had more than a few more songs they would have performed. Sadly, the only missing component was Chuck Negron, whose voice was such a huge part of their signature sound.

I loved hearing "Black and White" as well as "Just an Old Fashioned Love Song"... brought back memories. Had great seats. Love seeing shows at the Fair... Keep the talent coming to the OC!

Three Dog had a Good Night!

by Hippy2009 on 8/10/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

Because I was too poor to ever go to concerts when I was younger, I am glad I am now able to enjoy a live performance of the songs/groups of my youth! (The "rap" was a HOOT! ) Although we have all changed from the 60s and 70s, many of Three Dog Night's lyrics still are relevant. One is still a lonely number! I just had my 25th wedding anniversary and am very thankful I am not a just a "one'. And Mom is still right about those parties and I'm very proud that my two twenty year old boys know it!! I'm also glad to see that black and whites both can sit in the same schools. There is still some trouble between blacks and whites, but definitely not like the 60s and 70s. (We even have our first black president!)

Three Dog Night at Pacific Amphitheatre

by Aficionada on 8/10/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

Three Dog Night was outstanding as usual. I love their harmony, as did everyone else. I don't regret the 70-mile trip we made to see them. It was a packed house.

    Great show

by KMoo on 8/10/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

It was a very good show. Their voices were strong and clear and the venue is great. They did quite a few songs that the crowd sang along with and also told some stories about the songs. All in all, a great evening out.

    Brought back great memories

by StevenD on 8/10/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

When my wife and I were first dating we went to our first concert to see Steppenwolf at the Sacramento Municipal Auditorium in Aug/Sept (?) 1968 and Three Dog Night was the opening act. While their name was on the ticket nobody knew what it meant or who they were. Boy did they know afterward. We all absolutely went nuts and when John Kay and Steppenwolf came out everyone boo'd them and started chanting to bring back Three Dog Night. That was 41 years ago and we loved listening to some of the songs they played that night as well as others we loved throughout their career. We have always been big fans since that first concert and we still are. We love their harmonies and style I'm so glad that they are still together and bringing out a new album. Best of luck to them. Keep it up!!

Three Dog Night: A Night of Memories

by bluestreakgirl on 8/10/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

I looked around at the crowd who filled The Pacific Amphitheatre and tried to imagine what these boomers looked like as teens like me when they first listened to Three Dog Night some 40 years ago. It seemed to me that many people were doing the same thing! Once the music started, it seemed like four decades of weight was lifted from our collective shoulders for a time. Three Dog Night still sounds amazing! They need no pyrotechnics, gyrating dancers, or sets crafted by NASA to do their stuff. They have awesome voices that seem even stronger with time and their band members draw amazing music from their instruments. We heard beloved hits, not so familiar tunes, and new material that show that one of our favorite bands is still alive and kicking! Loved the rap version of "Momma Told Me Not to Come." This band has personality to spare! Three Dog Night finished with "Joy to the World" like we knew they would! Some of the lyrics to that song sound silly but the refrain is a wish for planet Earth: "Joy to the world, all the boys and girls. Joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea. Joy to you and me."

Fun night with Three Dog Night

by dogfriend on 8/10/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

Good memories, fun music. could have kept out some of the bands favorites that did not make it... there is a reason these songs did not make it -- and make room for some of the favorites that were left out. Cute attempts at rap music and acknowledging age.

by bldeke on 8/10/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

They gave a lively and energetic performance. It was fun to hear the oldies, but more fun to hear some of the history behind their less famous songs. Had a great time.

by Kazy on 8/10/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

Much too slow for my taste. Nobody got up to Dance until about an hour into the show.
