About

Take a fun-filled ride to the heart of the roaring twenties with Thoroughly Modern Millie!

It’s the height of the jazz age, the roaring 20’s, and small-town girl Millie Dillmount has just arrived in New York City, ready to make her dreams come true.

Millie’s plan is simple: find a job as a secretary for an eligible bachelor, and then marry him. It doesn’t take long for Millie’s “thoroughly modern” plan to go awry. Her conniving landlady Mrs Meers plots to kidnap Millie’s best friend Dorothy and sell her into slavery. Her wealthy boss Trevor Graydon seems entirely uninterested in her flirtations, and – worst of all – Jimmy, the man with whom she falls head over heels in love, doesn’t have a penny to his name.

Annie Aitken stars as Millie. Her performance in Candide for Sydney Philharmonia Choirs was hailed as ‘a show-stopping tour-de-force’(SMH). Australia’s favourite leading lady, Marina Prior is Mrs Meers, Claire Lyon (Phantom of The Opera) is Miss Dorothy Brown, Queenie van de Zandt (King Kong) is Muzzy Van Hossmere, Adam-Jon Fiorentino (Aladdin) is Trevor Graydon, and Nigel Huckle (Hello, Dolly!) is Jimmy Smith. Also starring Keith BrockettJonathan Chan and Angela Scundi.

The winner of six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie is based on the 1967 Academy Award-winning film and was the 2002 season’s most awarded new show on Broadway.

    Millie was incredible!

by GigiCG on 7/8/14Will Rogers Auditorium - Fort Worth

Cast, set, costume & orchestra - all fabulous! It was a shame that there were so few people in attendance! Tickets were very pricey and maybe that is why more people didn't attend.

New theatre company puts on its inaugural show and it was amazing. Not one bad actor in the bunch. The sets were gorgeous. I saw the original version of this musical in NYC with Tony award winner Sutton Foster and this group of actors were right on par with original cast. I highly recommend it! Shout out to the musicians (their sound was fantastic).

Great entertainment. Alot of fun to watch. We enjoyed it tremendously. This is a professional, polished performance with great musical numbers, well choreographed. The costumes are a hoot, true to the era, yet colorful and fun. The time just flew by. A completely entertaining performance. Go see it before its gone!

    Loved it

by Ron98GT on 12/15/09Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook Terrace

As stated, loved it. Fantasic performance for an off Broadway play. We've seen many Broadway plays in New York City over the years and this performance rated right up there. I don't have the Play Bill with me, but I remember reading that the lead actress played in Grease on Broadway. We saw Grease on Broadway last November when Ace was in it and that performance was great also. See it.

The entire family enjoyed the play. Great singing and dancing. The humor was relevant to all ages. The story line was made very " MODERN" by the cast. Extremely entertaining!!

Thoroughly Modern Millie at the Oakbrook Drury Lane was another fantastic evening at this dinner theatre. The best kind of holiday lightheartedness. How can such a small venue put on such quality productions?

    Wonderful entertainment

by fkrauss on 12/7/09Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook Terrace

Drury Lane continues to provide professional theater in a regional setting that easily compares to Broadway standards. The production of "Thoroughly Modern Millie" is outstanding in every way. A talented cast heads the list of attributes that include great voices, terrific scenery, glorious costumes, and choreography that exceeded my expectation. I used to think that you had to go downtown to see Broadway style musicals. No longer true. Drury Lane does it on a budget that I can manage. It was great fun.

    Millie

by jazzzmac on 12/6/09Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook Terrace

I enjoyed the intimacy of the small stage. The singing was very good, however the players seemed to be tired and a little off time.

Acting/Singing not Bad: musical score lacking

by ColJoe on 11/29/09Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook Terrace

While the acting and singing weren't bad, and at times very good, the musical score we probably leave you wishing you had spent your money on another show. The melodies are poor at best and I can't recall one song less than 12 hours after the show. My wife enjoyed it a little better than me but not by much. I cannot recommend this show, although the cast did a good job with the materials they were given.

    Thoroughly Modern Millie was Wonderful

by Nick56 on 11/28/09Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook Terrace

The music, acting and dancing were all great. Holly Ann Butler as Millie was outstanding. Her singing, dancing, and acting were incredible. The fairly large cast worked well together and they seemed to be enjoying what they were doing. It made the production an extremely entertaining experience for all. The cast deserved the standing ovation they received.

    Thoroughly Enjoyable!

by Anonymous on 11/28/09Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook Terrace

I really didn't expect such a high-caliber show in a Chicago suburb, but Thoroughly Modern Millie pleasantly surprised me. It's a high-energy musical with an exceptionally talented cast of singers and dancers. My husband and teenaged daughters came away with rave reviews as well.
