About

Take a fun-filled ride to the heart of the roaring twenties with Thoroughly Modern Millie!

It’s the height of the jazz age, the roaring 20’s, and small-town girl Millie Dillmount has just arrived in New York City, ready to make her dreams come true.

Millie’s plan is simple: find a job as a secretary for an eligible bachelor, and then marry him. It doesn’t take long for Millie’s “thoroughly modern” plan to go awry. Her conniving landlady Mrs Meers plots to kidnap Millie’s best friend Dorothy and sell her into slavery. Her wealthy boss Trevor Graydon seems entirely uninterested in her flirtations, and – worst of all – Jimmy, the man with whom she falls head over heels in love, doesn’t have a penny to his name.

Annie Aitken stars as Millie. Her performance in Candide for Sydney Philharmonia Choirs was hailed as ‘a show-stopping tour-de-force’(SMH). Australia’s favourite leading lady, Marina Prior is Mrs Meers, Claire Lyon (Phantom of The Opera) is Miss Dorothy Brown, Queenie van de Zandt (King Kong) is Muzzy Van Hossmere, Adam-Jon Fiorentino (Aladdin) is Trevor Graydon, and Nigel Huckle (Hello, Dolly!) is Jimmy Smith. Also starring Keith BrockettJonathan Chan and Angela Scundi.

The winner of six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie is based on the 1967 Academy Award-winning film and was the 2002 season’s most awarded new show on Broadway.

Delightful Performance of an Award Winning Play

by MommaBear2U on 5/14/19Morrison Center for the Performing Arts - Boise

Absolutely loved the Boise Music Week production of Thoroughly Modern Millie. The leads were very well chosen and the supporting cast were exceptional. The set was well done but not over the top and distracting, as I have seen before. The costumes were well chosen and the lighting added to the productions success. Bravo!!! Well done everyone. The voices chosen for the speaking/singing roles were so melodic and enunciation was amazing. The two songs with the dictation were absolutely the best I have seen. That is a super tough song to do well and this cast nailed it! And that leaping wonder...wow, just wow. Well done!

    What's That You Said?

by DMB on 5/13/19Morrison Center for the Performing Arts - Boise

I attended opening night, Thursday May 9, 2019. The orchestra played way too loud - so it was hard to hear the singers. Also it was hard to understand what the singers were saying.

    Good performance

by Mbritta on 5/13/19Morrison Center for the Performing Arts - Boise

Enjoyed this free performance. I took my teens and 9 yo and didn’t fully realize the somewhat adult theme of human trafficking would be so central to the show. I think it went ok for my kids but would have preferred a better heads up when ordering tickets.

I enjoyed watching the play a lot. It was well done and the costumes were lovely (I especially liked the glitter on Muzzy’s dress). The ushers we’re also very helpful and nice. I was surprised to learn it was all volunteer! I definitely plan on seeing next year’s musical :)

I had the most wonderful time at "Thoroughly Modern Millie"

by Boise Native on 5/12/19Morrison Center for the Performing Arts - Boise

I have been a little disappointed in the quality of a few of the recent Boise Music Week productions, but this year, they hit it out of the park! The actors were sensational. Great voices, mics all worked so you could hear everything, dancers who could dance, fabulous orchestra, and beautiful scenery! Thank you for this unforgettable experience.

anneliese van der pol was amazing!

by TCRa on 7/23/14Will Rogers Auditorium - Fort Worth

This was my third stage version of Thoroughly Modern Millie and it was by far my favorite! I grew up watching Anneliese Van Der Pol as Chelsea on That's So Raven and I had such a blast recognizing her quirky sense of humor in this role. The whole play was casted so well, the lighting, the sets, the choreography, the orchestra, everything... it was perfect. My mom and I were singing along the whole time.

    Throughly Entertaining

by Bob78 on 7/21/14Will Rogers Auditorium - Fort Worth

This show had a little bit of everything singing, dancing, intrigue, romance, comedy, etc. I have a number of stage shows this year and this one may be number one.
