  • TOTALLY TUBULAR FESTIVAL, CUYAHOGA FALLS

by Mark SN on 7/31/24Blossom Music Center - Cuyahoga FallsRating: 5 out of 5

Excellent concert. Eight bands, started at 5:30pm. Finished at 11pm. All bands were very good, but Wang Chung, Men Without Hats & The Thompson Twins were beyond excellent. WC just rocked so well. MwH lead singer is a great performer, has charisma and knows how to work the stage. TTT were very polished, Tom Bailey was very good and the Ladies were exceptional on their instruments and backing vocals. Just a great night for 'live' music.

  • A truly dissatisfied for what we paid ,

by Vato on 7/31/24Blossom Music Center - Cuyahoga FallsRating: 1 out of 5

I feel for what we paid the green room experience in the Huntington club. It was not worth it. Green room experience was lineup. Take a picture and the Huntington club opened at five concert at six. Nothing special still had to pay for a drink and food. I would never do it again

  • Great show!

by Nikki on 7/31/24Blossom Music Center - Cuyahoga FallsRating: 5 out of 5

I loved Tubular Fest, all the bands sounded perfect, it was such a great nostalgic musical trip. It was a bit under attended and most of the vendors weren't open though which was a bummer. Also, Thomas Dolby played last and I thought it should have been the Thompson Twins since they had a lot more hits. He only had 2 that I recognized. My husband thought the show was over after they played. Thomas Dolby sounded great though!

Here are my Rankings from Worst to Best for the Totally Tubular concert : Thomas Dolby: Average Half of Thompson Twins: Average Tommy Tutone: Very Average The Plimsoles: Okay but only one member left touring Modern English: Decent. Did have some new songs. Bow Wow Wow: Surprisingly good Wang Chung: Very Good. Better now than in the 80s Men Without Hats: Surprise of the night. Quite entertaining!

The entire line up of bands was just amazing. I would do it all over if I could.

  • Flashback to the 80s

    by Kerry13 on 7/30/24Riverbend Music Center - CincinnatiRating: 4 out of 5

I thought the Totally Tubular Festival was a great success. I was impressed by the performers’ energy and passion. They were having as much fun as the audience (maybe more) and it was a fun trip back in time. After watching Thomas Dolby do his performance I am convinced he his a musical genius; however, that does not mean he was the right artist to end the show. All night there was a build up of energy and Dolby’s performance didn’t meet that level. If I were in charge of this tour, I would shuffle the artists a bit to keep the energy building all night: EDDIE MUNOZ OF THE PLIMSOULS TOMMY TUTONE MODERN ENGLISH THOMAS DOLBY BOW WOW WOW WANG CHUNG MEN WITHOUT HATS THOMPSON TWINS' TOM BAILEY I enjoyed myself thoroughly at the festival but Modern English and Thomas Dolby really slowed the vibe down so I think shuffling the order would help to keep the audience engaged through the shows.

  • Other bands stole the show

by Totally Tubular on 7/30/24Riverbend Music Center - CincinnatiRating: 4 out of 5

Don't get me wrong, I probably own everything Thomas Dolby has ever released. I've seen him live many times. I have met him on multiple occasions also. Plim Souls, great. Bow Wow Wow, super fun. Men Without Hats, Tons of energy and surprises. Modern English, did not disappoint. Lead singer is too handsome. Tom Bailey performing Thompson Twins should have been the headliner. Full stop. His band was excellent and entertaining. Worth it just to see them. Thomas Dolby closed the show. He sounded great even though he was having some technical issues. Unfortunately, it was him alone on stage with a lot sequenced tracks and playing just a few hints here and there in real time. His vocals were not up to his usual performance. I'm sorry but it was a bit boring. The best times I have seen him was with a live band. The show in its entirety was worth the trip from Wisconsin to Ohio. Tom Bailey should have closed the show.

  • 80's FUNFUN FUN

It was a great time! There should be more of these concerts where you get a bunch of 80's bands together.

  • Short but sweet

by Nonspecific on 7/30/24Riverbend Music Center - CincinnatiRating: 4 out of 5

Thomas Dolby’s one man show was wonderful and very entertaining. At around half an hour, in my opinion his set was too short. I was disappointed that we only got seven songs of which two were covers. As a fan of Dolby’s entire catalog, I was thrilled for him to play “Evil Twin Brother from “A Map of the Floating City”. Dolby is known for rearranging his songs live. It was kind of fun watching the crowd’s bafflement as he played reinterpretations of his “Golden Age of Wireless” classics, New Order’s “Blue Monday” and an impressionistic take on Bowie’s “Hero’s”. Great show, great showmanship, over too soon.

  • New Wave

by Gato on 7/30/24Riverbend Music Center - CincinnatiRating: 3 out of 5

Thompson Twins stole the show. Wang Chung very good as well. Modern English surprisingly good. Dolby was too weird. Bow Wow Wow, Tutone, and Plimsouls not good.

  • Great until the end

by Totally Tubular Festival on 7/30/24Riverbend Music Center - CincinnatiRating: 4 out of 5

All of the bands were great. However, when Thomas Dolby started to perform last, the vibe of the crowd went downhill. It had already been a long night and his electronic performance of unrecognizable songs caused a lot of people to leave. He did a nice little tribute to David Bowie and eventually brought the crowd back to their feet with his last song, "She Blinded Me With Science".

  • Total enjoyment

by Jill the Pill on 7/30/24Riverbend Music Center - CincinnatiRating: 4 out of 5

We had so much fun. Since there's multiple bands, they each play 4-6 songs. Modern English played 3-4 NEW songs. Best Production goes to Tom Bailey (Thompson Twins). Best Entertainor goes to Men Without Hats... That guy is 66 years old and all over the stage dancing and getting the crowd on their feet. Thomas Dolby has very eclectic music. So, unfortunately, a lot of people left before he started. I kinda felt bad for him.

  • Too much time between band changes

    by Nunya1961 on 7/30/24Riverbend Music Center - CincinnatiRating: 3 out of 5

Sorry to report that they lost me with the downtime between setting up each band. Maybe 2 sets on one stage or an actual DJ spinning 80’s hits for sing-a-longs between would smooth it out.

  • Great Bands, annoying venue

by JR on 7/30/24Riverbend Music Center - CincinnatiRating: 5 out of 5

Thomas Dolby was very entertaining, enjoyed his show. Would NOT reccomened Riverbend as a venue, everytime you left the seat you had to show your ticket to get back to your seat. But lots of people smoking cigarettes, which is supposed to be prohibited. I would have appreciated some enforcement there.

  • Not my favorite

by Alight on 7/30/24Riverbend Music Center - CincinnatiRating: 1 out of 5

I enjoyed the Totally Tubular Music festival. Thomas Dolby was not an artist we were interested in seeing and we left after the second song.

  • Totally awesome

  • He Blinded Me With Brilliance

by Andy Nulman on 7/30/24Place Bell - LavalRating: 5 out of 5

I saw Thomas Dolby as part of the '80s throwback event Totally Tubular. While other acts--most notable Wang Chung and Modern English--were wonderful, it was Dolby who I would run back to see tomorrow in a full show environment. No "one-hit"wonder is he; he is current, beyond creative and as a solo act, punches way beyond his weight with a mix of audio and visual elements to create a most unique, emotional and modern concert event. Ironically, my path crossed his back in 2000 when we were both pioneers in the mobile media space (he was putting together a full tonal ringtone platform when the world was basic phone keyboard bleeps), and it was a treat seeing how exceptional a thinker and performer he still is.

Great hearing Thomas cover New Order! First time experiencing him live. Was very lively. Great concert

  • Totally Tubular Indeed!

Great time. Nice venue, awesome bands. So much FUN!!! Highlights were Thompson Twins and Men Without Hats!

  • Fun bands, horrible sound

by Djvindy on 7/29/24Meadow Brook Amphitheatre - Rochester HillsRating: 3 out of 5

Unfortunately would have been 5 stars but the sound / acoustic managment was below dismal. 2 bands nailed the sound, Thompson Twins and Men Without Hats. The rest were outdone by the speakers.
