About

THIEVERY CORPORATION IN CONCERT:

Lounge and electronica collective Thievery Corporation capture the sleek sounds of the international set with their chilled-out beats, worldly sonic palette, and lush synthscapes. Their mesmerizing and eclectic mix of bossa nova, acid jazz, trip hop, and a host of other genres had crate-diggers drooling with jealousy between sets at their 2013 shows, reminding fans just why they're one of downtempo's most beloved acts. With a highly anticipated new album due out in 2014, Thievery Corporation are set to blow minds once again on their upcoming North American tour dates.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Washington, DC's Rob Garza and Eric Hilton formed Thievery Corporation in 1995 as an outlet for their shared love of acid jazz, dub reggae, and Brazilian musical traditions. Using Hilton's Eighteenth Street Lounge as a base of operations, their early mixing sessions were a huge success, resulting in their 1997 debut album Sounds from the Thievery Hi-Fi. While the album was a minor success, it was their second record, The Mirror Conspiracy, that really put them on the map, led by the sweltering single "Lebanese Blond." Since then, they have continued to pioneer new directions in downtempo, headlining some of the world's biggest festivals and establishing themselves as legends of the genre.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"So talented and entertaining. Definitely worth seeing them live again soon."

"Absolutely rocked the place. Collaboration of old tunes with new and energetic stuff made it so special and enjoyable. The place was jamming! Loved it!"

"This is the third time I've seen Thievery Corporation and I must say they are one of the BEST live acts I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. If you have not seen them live you are doing yourself a horrible disservice."

i expected the show to be great. it was. the archives were new to me and are just a fantastic local reggae band. the venue... i think this was the first time a show was done at kastles stadium at the wharf. just a beautiful venue that is perfect for summer shows.

  • Thievery Corp - great as always!

by curiquinti on 8/22/11Kastles Stadium at The Wharf - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen the Thievery Corporation every chance I get (whenever they are in DC) and never get tired of it. Their energy and music are awesome! I like the idea of making the event by the water since it is the end of summer. It ended up being a fun venue for the event.

  • Thievery does a great show as always

by Tangelo17 on 8/22/11Kastles Stadium at The Wharf - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

The Kastle's stadium was a great venue. The 9:30 club staff was really friendly and helpful. I saw 0 crowd control issues, and everyone looked to be having a great time. The food trucks were fun, and I especially loved the hula hoop action at the Fajol truck. The waterfront setting was also prime, as if you wanted, you could walk along the water and look at the boats or the sunset. Thievery played a strong set as usual. I was happy to welcome them back to DC after 1.5 years of not seeing them play. It was about time!! :)

  • Thievery ROCKS!

This was by far one of the best shows I've seen in my whole life! The energy was so alive and they were incredible! I wish I had a live copy.

  • Thievery Corp @ The Wharf

by ColtMarshall17 on 8/22/11Kastles Stadium at The Wharf - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

Thievery Corp always puts on a pretty good show. I was only disappointed in how early the show ended. What kind of venue wants the show to end a little after 10?

  • Whoops!

by Allyson518 on 8/22/11Kastles Stadium at The Wharf - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

Sadly I can't review the show. We thought that because this was organized by 9:30 Club that the final act, Thievery Corporation, wouldn't go on until later...like 9:30+. We didn't realize that there was a noise restriction that required the show to end at 10:00pm. The venue was great and the last few songs we heard were fantastic....we just wished that we knew that the main act was going to start earlier than most other 9:30 Club shows. Hopefully they'll play here again because we'd definitely come back!

by MadamIndigo1 on 8/22/11Kastles Stadium at The Wharf - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

I had a wonderful time at the show. The crowd rocked out the entire time. There was not a song that wasn't cranking. I had a ball! My significant other didn't know much about them and had a great time and would definitely love to see them again,.

  • Thievery Corporation and Kastles Venue were great

by Anonymous on 8/22/11Kastles Stadium at The Wharf - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

First time this venue was used for a concert. It was very successful, and Thievery Corporation performed really well. Sound was good. Food and drink options were great. Plenty of seating and dancing room. Excellent DC and waterfront views.

  • Awesome music, amazing location!

by nat01 on 8/22/11Kastles Stadium at The Wharf - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Truly unforgettable experience to hear TC raw and live in DC! Loved the energy and message. I found the location to be quite unique - pretty spectacular to be able to see the barges on the river and planes land while hearing some of the most talented musicians rock on a beautiful night in DC!!!

This was the greatest show that i have ever been to if i could i would follow them to every performance

  • Thievery was amazing!

by dontdanceinfrontofme on 8/18/11Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 4 out of 5

The concert was amazing, but I did not like how this was general admission. There were so many people who stopped and danced in front of me it took away from the overall show. Next show I will consider VIP seating or not going to a general admission show.

  • Thievery Corp.

by DDTMZ on 8/18/11Red Rocks Amphitheather - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

Got to see Thievery Corporation last night (8/14) at red rocks (CO)......I won't say the night was beautiful, but just as Thievery was coming out to play, it stopped raining, the clouds faded and the full moon made all the stars in the sky shine like diamonds!! The music was great!! What a night!!

  • Not my type - perhaps bcos I wasn't stoned enough

    by Rupi123 on 8/18/11Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 2 out of 5

Though I was partly stoned inhaling all the 'smoke' in the air (and there was a lot of it, trust me!), I quite didn't get their music. Mediocre vocals, random switching of music styles (reggae, jazz, afrobeats...), and none of these being best-in-class... yuck! Was a terrific location on a beautiful night though.

  • Ghostland Observatory

by hjda on 8/17/11Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 1 out of 5

Noise, bad light show, terrible performance! Awful choice for an opening act.

  • magical

by starryheels on 8/17/11Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

amazing vibe and atmosphere, the music and singing are superfluous. everyone was dancing without stop, even me, in high heels (which the guy I was with was surprised by) it was magical, intense, romantic, pure, beautiful.

  • Thievery & Ghostland together = perfect night

by kcdav on 8/17/11Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

If you have never heard Ghostland, give them a chance! Go YouTube "Silver City" right now! & then Thievery is amazing of course. I love all of their songs....their albums "It Takes a Thief" & "Culture of Fear" are so great! Go see them!
