About

THIEVERY CORPORATION IN CONCERT:

Lounge and electronica collective Thievery Corporation capture the sleek sounds of the international set with their chilled-out beats, worldly sonic palette, and lush synthscapes. Their mesmerizing and eclectic mix of bossa nova, acid jazz, trip hop, and a host of other genres had crate-diggers drooling with jealousy between sets at their 2013 shows, reminding fans just why they're one of downtempo's most beloved acts. With a highly anticipated new album due out in 2014, Thievery Corporation are set to blow minds once again on their upcoming North American tour dates.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Washington, DC's Rob Garza and Eric Hilton formed Thievery Corporation in 1995 as an outlet for their shared love of acid jazz, dub reggae, and Brazilian musical traditions. Using Hilton's Eighteenth Street Lounge as a base of operations, their early mixing sessions were a huge success, resulting in their 1997 debut album Sounds from the Thievery Hi-Fi. While the album was a minor success, it was their second record, The Mirror Conspiracy, that really put them on the map, led by the sweltering single "Lebanese Blond." Since then, they have continued to pioneer new directions in downtempo, headlining some of the world's biggest festivals and establishing themselves as legends of the genre.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"So talented and entertaining. Definitely worth seeing them live again soon."

"Absolutely rocked the place. Collaboration of old tunes with new and energetic stuff made it so special and enjoyable. The place was jamming! Loved it!"

"This is the third time I've seen Thievery Corporation and I must say they are one of the BEST live acts I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. If you have not seen them live you are doing yourself a horrible disservice."

  • Thievery Corporation... Amazing!

by Anonymous on 8/22/11Kastles Stadium at The Wharf - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing as always... This was the 5th time I saw them performing live, though it was the first time in the US. The previous 4 were in Athens, where they show up almost every year. For those who have been to at least one of their concerts, they all know that it is a 2-hour party full of energy, dancing, vibration... For those who have never been at one of their concerts, don't miss the next one...!

  • Thievery at Kastles Stadium

by Lolo54 on 8/22/11Kastles Stadium at The Wharf - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

It was as close to perfect as you could ever get. 930 club staff was excellent. We came with a guest needing accommodations and the staff was so cool. Suffice it to say that they are exaclty the same at the club. Extremely accommodating. There was not a bad seat in the house that I could see.Great venue. So much dancing room. Cool seeing the planes land and watching the stage at the same time. My crew loves Thievery, we go to every show we can. It was such a fun night. Loved it so much.

Great show! Nice Venue and a really good vibe throughout.

  • Amazing Venue, Amazing Music

by travisbernard on 8/22/11Kastles Stadium at The Wharf - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Thievery Corporation was insanely good, and the venue was out of this world. I'd love to see more events like that at the Waterfront. The food trucks were also a nice touch.

  • Thievery killed it for the hometown crowd

by DCinthehouse on 8/22/11Kastle Stadium on the Waterfront - Washington D.C.Rating: 5 out of 5

Great show in a new outdoor venue on D.C. waterfront. Been going to (and loving) Thievery Corporation live shows (at 9:30 Club) and DJ sets (at ESL) for more than 10 years. New venue was worked well (we were lucky for great weather..rain would have sucked...). Venue was not to big so still felt close to stage (when on floor like I was). Was incredible show for the hometown crowd. Alot of D.C. love in the house...

  • Thievery Corp kickin Kastles

by JProDG on 8/22/11Kastles Stadium at The Wharf - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

The show was good, venue was cool. The downsides, parking was a pain and they only played for 2 hours. This is why I put 4 instead of 5 stars.

  • awesomeness

Great place, great music. It could improve on the lines to bay drinks and food. Overall great experience

Great new DC venue for outdoor music - and hosting two of DC's native sons, plus all the great accompanying artists, made this one sick fun show. I was sweating because I was dancing, and not the DC heat. Really great night!!!

  • "TC" Runs DC

  • Thievery was awesome!

by thieveryrocks on 8/22/11Kastles Stadium at The Wharf - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

the opening bands had a few good numbers but as soon as thievery got on stage, the ambience was electric. everybody got into their music and i had a blast too. The general standing area was great and i have never been able to get that close to a band for an inexpensive price. It was great being there and would recommend to anyone who likes the multicultural music that thievery is famous for.

  • Avoid at any cost!!!

by Tommmmmm12341234 on 8/22/11Kastles Stadium at The Wharf - WashingtonRating: 1 out of 5

That was bad. To be fair, I was warned: friends of mine were saying that they would only play stuff from the new albums. And that they did. So if you are into rap, hip-hop and some mediocre funk, please go see them. If you think that their best work was on the first albums, you will be disappointed. They played two songs I liked but even those had some aweful singers. Except for the one singing the David Byrne song. He was by far the best of the evening. Guess a lot people were better informed than me since the place looked far from sold-out. On a personal note, I think it is time to dump the pseudo-political songs like IMF.

  • Fabulous group, Fabulous venue!

by Anonymous on 8/22/11Kastles Stadium at The Wharf - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

What a perfect night to see DC's own Thievery Corp. That was the first time I have been to Kastles Stadium and they couldn't have picked a better venue to hold that concert!!

  • Thievery Corp Was A Blast!!!!

by Kalorwild on 8/22/11Kastles Stadium at The Wharf - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

9:30 Club staff was great & On point. The Entire show was nonstop !! The crowd was amazing ,the view to the water was also an event maker!!!

  • Thievery exceeded expectations!

by FunkyFan2011 on 8/22/11Kastles Stadium at The Wharf - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

The concert was amazing and did not disappoint. We were a little concerned after the AC show with Massive Attack last year but this was fantastic and even exceeded the 2009 Pier Six concert in Baltimore. TC puts on the most unique and electrifying show with incredible sounds. ONLY sort of negative was having women come out in the end to dance with the band.. just not really TC in my eyes.

  • if tc played the bars when you were in college...

by Anonymous on 8/22/11Kastles Stadium at The Wharf - WashingtonRating: 2 out of 5

if thievery was the band you went out to see at the bars 1-2 times a week while you were in college, they would be good and the show at Kastles would have been a lot of fun. if you get out and see real act or are on the inside of real djs, then you would have felt the amateurishness of the night...and $8 cups of bud light does not make a $50 ticket go down any easier.
