About

THIEVERY CORPORATION IN CONCERT:

Lounge and electronica collective Thievery Corporation capture the sleek sounds of the international set with their chilled-out beats, worldly sonic palette, and lush synthscapes. Their mesmerizing and eclectic mix of bossa nova, acid jazz, trip hop, and a host of other genres had crate-diggers drooling with jealousy between sets at their 2013 shows, reminding fans just why they're one of downtempo's most beloved acts. With a highly anticipated new album due out in 2014, Thievery Corporation are set to blow minds once again on their upcoming North American tour dates.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Washington, DC's Rob Garza and Eric Hilton formed Thievery Corporation in 1995 as an outlet for their shared love of acid jazz, dub reggae, and Brazilian musical traditions. Using Hilton's Eighteenth Street Lounge as a base of operations, their early mixing sessions were a huge success, resulting in their 1997 debut album Sounds from the Thievery Hi-Fi. While the album was a minor success, it was their second record, The Mirror Conspiracy, that really put them on the map, led by the sweltering single "Lebanese Blond." Since then, they have continued to pioneer new directions in downtempo, headlining some of the world's biggest festivals and establishing themselves as legends of the genre.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"So talented and entertaining. Definitely worth seeing them live again soon."

"Absolutely rocked the place. Collaboration of old tunes with new and energetic stuff made it so special and enjoyable. The place was jamming! Loved it!"

"This is the third time I've seen Thievery Corporation and I must say they are one of the BEST live acts I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. If you have not seen them live you are doing yourself a horrible disservice."

  • Theivery Corporation a Plethora of Talent

by DanaP on 9/11/11Greek Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 4 out of 5

Once again TC delivers. They know the recipe for success with with mellifluous tones and harmonious instrumentations. Theivery explodes the stage with pure, raw talent.

  • Poor information

    by LindsayG123 on 9/11/11Greek Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 1 out of 5

I missed the first few bands and made it just in time for Thievory. There was no set time to be found anywhere. Tickets said doors at 730. Very misleading. Especially for a Friday.

  • Fitz & the Tantrums rocked!

    by bigbird321 on 9/11/11Greek Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 4 out of 5

Not much of a review writer but I have to shout out that Fitz & the Tantrums brought it on! From start to finsih... no disappoinment!

  • Fitz and the Tauntrums were amazing!

    by Laurie27 on 9/11/11Greek Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

I really enjoyed meeting the band (Fitz). They were really nice and seemed to enjoy their fans. The band had so much energy and were a lot of fun to watch. However, they covered an Eurythmics song. I wish they stuck to their own songs bc this band is amazing!

  • Viva Thievery Corporation!~

by BarcelonaBohemian on 9/11/11Greek Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Well, the whole show was great! It was so much more energetic than I imagined since a lot of the "Corp's" music is chill!

  • Opening Act Was Odd

by BondQB on 9/11/11Greek Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 3 out of 5

Fits And The Tantrums was the most odd opening act outside of a Polka band for Thievery Corporation. Their middle aged movie themed songs were not what I paid to see. Granted, I do not blame the venue for this. Of course not. The Greek is a lovely place to watch Thievery Corporation. It was just hard to sit through such an odd act for 30mins before getting to the type of music I paid $55 to see.

  • Fun and energetic

by photogjenn on 9/11/11Greek Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

We thought the show was amazing, a perfect blend of old and new music, Thievery kept the energy going. I will definitely see them the next time they come to LA. My only criticism is that I didn't get there in time to see Fritz and the Tantrums. But that was MY fault.

  • Amazing!!

by Funksta on 9/2/11Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

Honestly I wasn't familiar with either Thievery or Ghostland, but after seeing this show, I am a fan for life! My face was melted all over red rocks after these two were done with me! Absolutely amazing show!!

  • Awesome Show

    by Deadhead65 on 9/2/11Red Rocks - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

Don't listen to what that guy said, Red Rocks was freakin' awesome! Ghostland rocked, and their lasers shooting up through the rain made a one of a kind magical nature meets technology light show in the Colorado night sky. There was also a full moon smiling down. The crowd had a great vibe going all night long and Thievery Corporation put on a sweet grooving show. Everyone I talked to said it was a magically special night. I highly recommend seeing both of these bands if you get the chance. Peace. :)

  • Thievery Corporation steals Kastle Stadium!!!

by PostLaw on 8/31/11Kastles Stadium at The Wharf - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

This was a fun outing with one of my favorite production / live acts. Thievery Corporation put on an excellent show with a more low key smaller outfit of singers and musicians. The singers were cut down to about half of the normal number and some of the space was cut down (chairs added) to make a more intimate affair with fewer changes. I really enjoyed the moments when Sleepy Wonder graced the stage. His ability to move effortlessly from ragamuffin rapping to sweet soulful vocals is a treasure that ESL should reward with a record release. All of the musicians were top notch and kept the energy going. In addition, I enjoyed the fact that the show went on a little past 10 PM. That gave me plenty of time to go elsewhere continuing a great night and not stay out too late. Even though I have to say I enjoyed TC at Merriweather (twice) and Pier 6 better, this was a very good show overall.

  • not worth seeing...

by telamonster on 8/27/11Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 1 out of 5

I was really unimpressed with both bands. I had heard that they put on amazing shows, Ghostland was annoying at best. The only songs worth hearing from Thievery were the instrumentals and the ones with female vocals. The male vocals were out of key for the most part.

great location for a show, fun with food trucks and plenty of drink stands, music was amazing

  • Thievery Corporation

Awesome music, good support bands and a great location. Very cool!

  • Great show, great acoustics, fun time!!!

by whitneywh on 8/23/11Kastles Stadium at The Wharf - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

This show was great, it was pretty hot outside (this venue is outdoors and only has port-a-potties) but the breeze off the nearby waterway helped a ton. The opening groups were great, most notably The Arkives, and Thievery sounded spectacular. I just wish Thievery played for another 1/2 - 1 hour. Drinks were, of course, way overpriced, like all concerts. Seating was all general so I took in the performance from several vantage points and the sound was awesome. I guess because it was outdoors it never seemed too loud or too bass-y. Seeing the Washington and Jefferson monuments lit up in the background made the concert even more sweet. I wish they had Thievery Corp. t-shirts/other for sale, they had mostly records and CDs. I did get a signed Thievery Corp. poster for $15. Worth it!

  • Great energy and wonderful sound system

by ghenghis748 on 8/23/11Kastles Stadium at The Wharf - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen Thievery Corp at 9:30 club and in Charlottesville at the outdoor Pavillion and now at the Kastles Stadium... once again Thievery did not disappoint.. We danced for most of the show, the band and the crowd's energy was great..and for an outdoor concert the sound system was just "booming"...Would go see this band any time..

  • Fabulous show!

by gabbieee on 8/23/11Kastles Stadium at The Wharf - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

Thievery Corporation did it again - a fabulous show!! The tunes were excellent, spanning all albums. Next time I want to see Sister Nancy join them - it's been too long! The Kastles Stadium is a wonderful, intimate venue where everyone can get close to the stage (the only downside about the venue was no hand sanitizer available in the portapotties or water available to wash hands - YUCK!). Btw, if you go to Kastles stadium for an event, DON'T park in the underground garage if you want to exit within 2 hours...the garage loads cars onto a tiny side street where the light is green for only 10 seconds between 5 min green lights on the cross street.

  • Thievery does it again!

by Digitalxs on 8/22/11Kastles Stadium at The Wharf - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Thievery Corporation never fails to deliver an awesome live show. The Kastles Stadium at the Wharf is an excellent venue with great acoustics. The lively show featured songs from the new "Culture of Fear" CD, and the crowd ate it up. The lighting, sound, and pacing of the show was terrific. I've seen TC at the 9:30 Club, and the Borgata in AC, and this show was the best of the three.

  • GREAT

by Jamesfrie on 8/22/11Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

What a show. Thievery played excellently. I would definitely see again

  • Thievery in DC = THE BEST!

Hometown boyzzz always make good..... whether at 9:30 or outdoors at the awesome new venue at the national harbor in southwest.... No one can stand still or sit down once the show begins,,, prepare to dance!
