THIEVERY CORPORATION IN CONCERT:
Lounge and electronica collective Thievery Corporation capture the sleek sounds of the international set with their chilled-out beats, worldly sonic palette, and lush synthscapes. Their mesmerizing and eclectic mix of bossa nova, acid jazz, trip hop, and a host of other genres had crate-diggers drooling with jealousy between sets at their 2013 shows, reminding fans just why they're one of downtempo's most beloved acts. With a highly anticipated new album due out in 2014, Thievery Corporation are set to blow minds once again on their upcoming North American tour dates.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Washington, DC's Rob Garza and Eric Hilton formed Thievery Corporation in 1995 as an outlet for their shared love of acid jazz, dub reggae, and Brazilian musical traditions. Using Hilton's Eighteenth Street Lounge as a base of operations, their early mixing sessions were a huge success, resulting in their 1997 debut album Sounds from the Thievery Hi-Fi. While the album was a minor success, it was their second record, The Mirror Conspiracy, that really put them on the map, led by the sweltering single "Lebanese Blond." Since then, they have continued to pioneer new directions in downtempo, headlining some of the world's biggest festivals and establishing themselves as legends of the genre.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"So talented and entertaining. Definitely worth seeing them live again soon."
"Absolutely rocked the place. Collaboration of old tunes with new and energetic stuff made it so special and enjoyable. The place was jamming! Loved it!"
"This is the third time I've seen Thievery Corporation and I must say they are one of the BEST live acts I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. If you have not seen them live you are doing yourself a horrible disservice."

Excellent concert. The artist and the venue were outstanding.
Thievery Schmievery?
by ByrdmanPDX on 9/17/11Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5I absolutely love Thievery. They are NEVER disappointing! Eight vocalists and sick instrumentation throughout. The bass player is the man. He commands the groove like a snake charmer on MDA. The sound was great(huge line arrays and a Digico console - what?!)! Mr. Lif was with them to do ONE song?! Hell yes he was! The female vocalists are always amazing and beautiful. The male vocalists are always amazing and beautiful. The only negative thing I can say about the show is this: Arlene Schnitzer Hall?!? Why?!? Sure it's super nice and beautiful and has a large capacity and all that happy horse hockey BS but... It's all SEATING! Seriously, who is going to see Thievery that wants to sit the whole time?!? No one. If I want to dance in an 18in radius, I'll ask the Portland Police to tase me(like they love to do). I truly hope they are back soon at a better(for dancing) venue. Also, where the hell was Eric Hilton and why didn't they say anything about it at all?!
Thievery Corporation 9/14
by cj8s on 9/16/11Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - PortlandRating: 4 out of 5The Schnitz, while timeless and beautiful, was the last place I expected to see Thievery Corporation. Both the opening band and Thievery Corporation had the audience up and dancing! The show was great and they let us take drinks (with a lid) into the theatre, which was a treat. Downside: There was one bartender so the line was long and slow. It is not a great set up for drinks.
Amazing
by BradleyPDX on 9/16/11Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5Great energy, great entertainment. Great vocals. Was anything but tired. Rocked the house!

Thievery corporation live was one of the best shows I've been to!!!! They played all my favorites and were even better than their album recordings. Amazing show!!!!!
T'ievery Nation is alive and well
by laughingsong on 9/16/11Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5This is a fantastic band, with talented core members and a number of associates that are nonetheless essential. The music covers more than one genre -- when they put out an album, you are always pleasantly surprised with at least some contents. The only thing I would say is that they need venues with more space to just dance, because the music is such that sitting and tapping a foot just ain't enough.
Musical Genius lost in the crowd
by zizik on 9/16/11Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - PortlandRating: 3 out of 5The amazing music this group offers was lost in the high base level and the noise of the crowd. In as much as people were excited and happy to watch & listen to them, I found myself wanting them to "shut up" and wanting the base dropped some, so that I could enjoy the sheer magic of some of the voices and the instruments. I had to move to back of the auditorium to find a seat and still be able to view and enjoy the music becuase everyone was standing. I must be in the minority! I will stick to the CD's.
Thievery dropped the ball IMO
by Jaca1123 on 9/16/11Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - PortlandRating: 2 out of 5I have been a Thievery fan for 12 years, so maybe I had high expectations, but I was pretty disappointed with their live show. First of all Thievery is a DUO. Without the 2 guys, it's not Thievery Corporation. But they had the audacity to come out sans Eric Hilton and just pretend like nothing was wrong. I don't know what I expected but it certainly wasn't seeing just Rob Garza tucked away on the back corner of the stage and a cast of random band members jamming over Thievery samples. Pretty weak template if you ask me. I think Thievery should re-structure their live show to where the 2 of them are front and center on the stage, triggering samples, spinning records, and playing synths. Then the band can back them up and the singers take their turns. As it is, there is no audience connection with the instrumentalists. In fact I was quite put off by the vibe of the bassist they have touring with them. All in all I do not recommend this show, and I think it was GROSSLY overpriced. Save your money.

'Thievory Corperation was Brilliant! We would highly recommend this show. The combination of Eclectic and Energetic artist was absolutely entertaining :) The band that played before them 'Los Amigos' was a delightful surprise that also was superb.
How is it possible???
by Vanchica on 9/14/11Malkin Bowl - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5How is it possible for a band to sound even BETTER live when they are perfection in the studio?? We were OUTDOORS fercripessake and they sounded absolutely FANTASTIC- they performed Lebanese Blonde right after their first song and KILLED. I've never been to a concert this good and go to 5-8 concerts a year

by NikNok on 9/12/11Greek Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5These guys are amazing. The band, music, and singers were all on point. I would highly recommend that everyone who likes to dance and be a part of a cool crowd, that they go and see these guys. Good times, Peace!

Miss the old Thievery
by Thievery on 9/12/11Greek Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 3 out of 5The show was good. Good acoustics, but I am a fan of the older Thievery style, less reggae sound. . .
SO surprisingly shocked...
by JaneRussell on 9/12/11Greek Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5For a first timer, seeing what i thought was a "band" made up of two dj's..This show Turned out to be a show with a full stage of muscians, instruments and guest artists... I though i would be sitting down on my ass Sharing some wine, bobbing my head to some downbeat/chill relaxing nice music under the stars.....Instead...Soon as those lights dropped, i was on my feet, bouncing my head, shaking my ass to some dancehall/french/sitar/rap/rock..just an overall beautiful collage of differnet styles/tones/regions that was amazing to watch and listen to..i had an incredibly fun time and will see this BAND again without a doubt..
Always the Cheese!
