About

THIEVERY CORPORATION IN CONCERT:

Lounge and electronica collective Thievery Corporation capture the sleek sounds of the international set with their chilled-out beats, worldly sonic palette, and lush synthscapes. Their mesmerizing and eclectic mix of bossa nova, acid jazz, trip hop, and a host of other genres had crate-diggers drooling with jealousy between sets at their 2013 shows, reminding fans just why they're one of downtempo's most beloved acts. With a highly anticipated new album due out in 2014, Thievery Corporation are set to blow minds once again on their upcoming North American tour dates.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Washington, DC's Rob Garza and Eric Hilton formed Thievery Corporation in 1995 as an outlet for their shared love of acid jazz, dub reggae, and Brazilian musical traditions. Using Hilton's Eighteenth Street Lounge as a base of operations, their early mixing sessions were a huge success, resulting in their 1997 debut album Sounds from the Thievery Hi-Fi. While the album was a minor success, it was their second record, The Mirror Conspiracy, that really put them on the map, led by the sweltering single "Lebanese Blond." Since then, they have continued to pioneer new directions in downtempo, headlining some of the world's biggest festivals and establishing themselves as legends of the genre.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"So talented and entertaining. Definitely worth seeing them live again soon."

"Absolutely rocked the place. Collaboration of old tunes with new and energetic stuff made it so special and enjoyable. The place was jamming! Loved it!"

"This is the third time I've seen Thievery Corporation and I must say they are one of the BEST live acts I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. If you have not seen them live you are doing yourself a horrible disservice."

The Fox Theater in Oakland is a magnificent venue in which TC made the most of! So much so that I fell in love w/a longtime friend a the vibe was perfect and after dancing like fools, the background music to our unexpected romance was movie like! I can not thank TC enuff! Much love

  • Thievery at the Fox Theatre, Oakland

by aldavewebbs on 9/19/11Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

Another superb performance by T.Corporation was witnessed this Saturday night! I now consider thievery to be in my top 5 acts having seen them 3 times now in the bay area; twice at the Greek and once at the Fox! Somehow this DJ outfit with their vast array of performers including a sitar player, a tabla and of course the bare footed bass player; always manage to convert their audience something fit for a nightclub. A must see live act which I recommend to anyone who likes to dance, and to those who never thought they could dance ;) Cheers, Alex

Thievery corporation, you can't go wrong with their thrip throp drop and melt my mind. Played with my emotions and soul, you guys inspire me. As for the theatre, its amazing and beautiful it really suits the event. I look forward to more concerts there, although one teeny complaint, booze is a rip off it's not a ball park or themed park. Other than that two thumbs up.

  • Thievery Corporation was mind blowing!!!

This was the third time I have seen Thievery Corporation and every time is absolutely unforgettable. You will never regret buying a ticket to this amazing event! The group is so high energy and full of excitement. I told my friend that I rather watch Thievery Corporation live then ever eat again. And I love to eat!!

Great music and it's like getting to see several different bands for the price of 1!

I've seen Theivery many times before, and this performance was just so so. The women they showcased this time were pretty forgettable. Neither woman projected or had a very powerful voice or stage presence. Previous shows have include bombshell women who stole the show. Either the sound was off, or these women just didn't project their voices over the music.

  • Thievery now a great live act! Fox average venue.

by FreeMarksman on 9/19/11Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 4 out of 5

Thievery brought the whole case from Babylon on to rock out live for this tour. Coupled with a new drummer and kickin live sets, this was one fun party. Imminently danceable, arm waveable and fist-pumping required at times, they brought out their A-game and worked the crowd (courtesy of seasoned live performers fronting the mics) and moved the house. We had a great time, I'd go again in a heartbeat for another ton of fun. The Fox theater is a midrange venue. It wants to be the Warfield, but the acoustics SUCK. Visually, it looks cool, and the layout is decent. However: The bass rolls out across GA and under the mezzanine to create slap-back. off the walls and ceiling under the mezzanine. The result is that if you are above GA you get muddy double-bass vibration, and vibration slap-back, that makes the bass sound like it is coming from underwater. To counter the muddy bassss-ssss, the treble is over compensated, bright and hot. The net result is that there is almost no midrange soundstage. Good luck hearing male vocals clearly, or hearing any rhythm guitar. I really want to like this place, it's easy to park and get to, but given the Warfield is typically the same cost and much better acoustics, this will always be second-choice to me. Even the Greek Theater nearby has better accoustics.

  • Thievery is awesome

The concert was great. The venue was great! But the order in which Thievery played their music could have been better.

wished it would've gone for longer! very engaging concert.

The opening band was alright, but when Thievery took over, it was a dream coming true. Great show, guests and lighting.

  • Poor Speakers for a GREAT Band!

by Nengels on 9/19/11Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall - PortlandRating: 1 out of 5

The sound was muffled and too loud! I can't believer I spent over $100 for a live concert that would have sounded better out of the speakers in my car! The Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall is not a venue that I would like to see any live music if this is how the sound is on a normal basis. I could not understand anything that was being said or sung. The speakers must not be a good quality. I am extremely disappointed as this was the first time I saw Thievery Croprotaion live in concert. I am certain they would sound better at a different concert hall.

  • WOW!

It was simply AMAZING... The best show I've been this year by far!!!

  • Thievery Corp was awesome!

Incredible show by TC where they created 3D experiences around their their many hits. All I can say is WOW. And, definitely a must see for TC fan.

  • Unreal

by BonoboMcLickitysplit on 9/19/11Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

ThCo rocked. The were full of energy and non-stop.

  • Not as good as last year

by mknox on 9/18/11Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 2 out of 5

Warm up band was not great, but the sound definitely made them worse. The sound had too much ecco and I don't think the singers could hear themselves. Thievery were so great at the Greek in Berkeley last year, but I was disappointed this time.

  • Excellent!

by Spartac on 9/18/11Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 4 out of 5

Diverse, powerful, a very nice and entertaining show. The music is a bit more aggressive than on CDs which is very good to dance. A lot of people on stage. The bassist is very charismatic. So is the guitarist, especially when he turns into a sitarist!

  • Check your Sound systems

by Anonymous on 9/18/11Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 1 out of 5

I have never left a concert before, and this was the first time. The sound was so distorted I could barely hear the instruments or the vocals clearly. The Sitar is what gives the band the unique sound and even then it was drowned out by everything else. I moved back section by section and even up to the balcony to see if the sound improved. It did not! Horrible sound quality. Take more time to sound check properly next time!!!

  • one of the best live bands there is!

by thatsaticketinmypants on 9/18/11Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

Thievery always gives an amazing performance. There's so many people and so much creativity its like going to see multiple styles of music. Its like a journey that I hoped would never end... except for the extremely awkward encore.

  • Thievery was Under-whelming!

by boogm on 9/18/11Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 1 out of 5

What a bore! The best thing about this show was the dinner beforehand elsewhere. The band was uninspired... playing as if by rote. We left early and were glad to be done with this waste of time. Why stick around when the performance makes you want to take a nap?
