About

THIEVERY CORPORATION IN CONCERT:

Lounge and electronica collective Thievery Corporation capture the sleek sounds of the international set with their chilled-out beats, worldly sonic palette, and lush synthscapes. Their mesmerizing and eclectic mix of bossa nova, acid jazz, trip hop, and a host of other genres had crate-diggers drooling with jealousy between sets at their 2013 shows, reminding fans just why they're one of downtempo's most beloved acts. With a highly anticipated new album due out in 2014, Thievery Corporation are set to blow minds once again on their upcoming North American tour dates.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Washington, DC's Rob Garza and Eric Hilton formed Thievery Corporation in 1995 as an outlet for their shared love of acid jazz, dub reggae, and Brazilian musical traditions. Using Hilton's Eighteenth Street Lounge as a base of operations, their early mixing sessions were a huge success, resulting in their 1997 debut album Sounds from the Thievery Hi-Fi. While the album was a minor success, it was their second record, The Mirror Conspiracy, that really put them on the map, led by the sweltering single "Lebanese Blond." Since then, they have continued to pioneer new directions in downtempo, headlining some of the world's biggest festivals and establishing themselves as legends of the genre.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"So talented and entertaining. Definitely worth seeing them live again soon."

"Absolutely rocked the place. Collaboration of old tunes with new and energetic stuff made it so special and enjoyable. The place was jamming! Loved it!"

"This is the third time I've seen Thievery Corporation and I must say they are one of the BEST live acts I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. If you have not seen them live you are doing yourself a horrible disservice."

  • thievery on the rocks!

    by biancagreen47 on 8/7/13Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

Thievery was amazing. I have seen them a few times before, once at Red Rocks and a couple times in Chicago, and I can honestly say last weekend was the best show I've seen them put on. Everything from the stage set, and lighting to their marvelous costumes and stage presence was ON POINT! What a magical evening.

Amazing show, Thievery killed it. Red Rocks is amazing even in the pouring rain. We were soaked but still had a blast.

  • Thievery Corporation grooves

Anyone who plays Red Rocks is fantastic...I love the atmosphere of the rocks and it is a very magical place. This was my first time seeing Thievery and at first I was intimidated by all the youth, thinking I was way out of place being 50 years old. That soon went away for Thievery is a high energy, yet mellow group with a variety of different singers and all the instruments they can play is amazing!! I love their drummer Frank! The crowd was very cool too...though there were alot of drunk people around, no one was obnoxious or rude. They were all in the groove of the music and I enjoyed it very much!

  • Best show I've ever been to!!

    by Jill1love on 8/6/13Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

The music was incredible! The venue was epic and the weather could not have been better! We sat higher up so we could have room to dance the night away to the sick and eclectic beats that only Thievery can offer, with a magnificent breeze flowing around us. The venue was unbelievable! I seriously never want to see another show anywhere other than Red Rocks again! Such a memorable event... Honestly the best show I have ever been to!

  • Magic Under the Stars!

by bodhiman on 8/6/13Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

Thievery has improved their show dramatically from last year at Red Rocks. They had everyone on their feet from start to finish. THe energy level was what you would expect at Red Rocks! Their encore provided a couple of new mixes off of their new CD. FANTASTIC!

  • Thievery was amazing!

Hadn't really heard of this band before, but they killed it. Great grooves all night--and they played for hours! Even if you don't know of them, I suggest going anyways.

  • The best of three worlds

by ZEROTHEORY on 8/6/13Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

This was one of the most complete shows I've ever seen, period. The opening act featured deep house from Canadian electronic duo Art Department, and what their set lacked in length, it made up for in substance. Each track was leveled into the next with an excellent choice in tempo and bassline. Even if you weren't an EDM/D&B fan, you couldn't help but move to AD's heavy synths. Next up was Toro y Moi; my personal selling point on the show. Chaz led his ensemble on a killer set that featured not only the best of his latest album 'Anything in Return', but fan favorites from his debut 'Causers of This'. Hearing these tracks played live on "actual" instruments made for a refreshing and fun experience that only enhanced my appreciation for Toro's work. The indie crowd/hipsters rejoiced at this section, but Chaz has the ability to combine the best of indie with retro dance grooves, so the crowd was moving to his melodies with gusto. And of course, the headliner. Thievery Corporation defies genre classification, as it is. And their live set featured some five different vocalists, of Argentinian, Iranian, Caribbean, and American nationalities. With sitar play and bongo drums getting a few chances to play, there wasn't a dull moment in the 90 minute long set. I can't really describe it, only say that you NEED to see TC live if you know what's good for you. It was a unique, fun, and memorable trip to new musical frontiers.

  • Thievery threw it down, a little too quickly

by Anonymous on 8/6/13Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 2 out of 5

I love thievery corporation. I have been listening to them for years. Saturday nights show was the 3rd time I saw them live, an I must admit it wasn't the best I've seen them play. They didn't even play until midnight? Transitions were terrible. After every song, how s everybody feeling???? they might have asked close to 30 times. red rocks might be one of the most beautiful places in the world, I was expecting thievery to blow everyone away. I didn't happen.

  • Rydums for the People

    by selden61 on 8/6/13Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

Thievery performed as usual with a diverse and high energy show. The variety of music from sultry lounge to revolution dub makes Thievery one of the most enjoyable dance shows out there. Robby Meyers orchestration and awesome scittar are truly amazing to behold. We danced our butts off and were sore for two days. Fantastic show!

  • Thievery just ok

    by Parrothead308 on 8/6/13Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 2 out of 5

We love Red Rocks, thus anything there is good. This was our second Thievery show, the first was last year and was really great. This year they changed the emphasis to more of their rap songs, which are just ok. We really enjoy their "trip hop" style, and the less edgy reggae. Both of these styles were mostly missing in this Red Rocks show - rats.....

  • OMG Thievery! Thank you for blowing my mind!

    by Jables119 on 8/6/13Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

Quite simply Toro y Moi and Thievery Corporation put on the best show I have ever seen at red rocks, or anywhere for the matter. They were there to play a hell of a show, and they had a blast. Such an amazing show with so many talented people playing.

  • thievery corp was spectacular as always!

    by DandA1 on 8/6/13Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

It started out with torrential rains on the way up to red rocks, but by the time we got into the venue, it was pretty much finished. I wish thievery corporation came to red rocks every few months! They are amazing! Love the live instrumentals and amazing vocals! One of my very favorite groups, especially to see at red rocks! If you haven't seen them live, you MUST! Loved it!!!

This was my first show at Red Rocks and I'm so glad I chose Thievery Corporation as my first show. It was awesome!!! I can't wait for my next concert at Red Rocks!

  • Thievery, as always, excellent!

by nicamatt on 8/6/13Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

This was a great show as always. Lots of fun, energy, and great music. I missed having the backup dancers in this year's show, but loved that Thievery played a longer set.

  • by Anonymous on 8/6/13Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 4 out of 5

Awesome! They are so much fun to watch. Great energy throughout the show.

  • Low Energy Show

by thatangler on 8/6/13Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 2 out of 5

It was very cold out and the show was a bit slow. The energy in the crowd was low due to the elements and the slow songs. Faster music would have been GREAT. I will not be seeing TC in concert again, it was just okay. The first opening artist was the best act of the night!

  • Thievery Corporation

by Benya on 8/6/13Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

Art Department and Thievery were fabulous not so fond of the other group.
