About

Four years after forming in a London school, The xx unleashed their 2009 eponymous debut via Young Turks. The 11-track collection not only earned accolades from critics across the globe, but it also scored the U.K.’s coveted Mercury Prize and landed the dream-pop band in the limelight stateside. Singles from their indie-label foray graced American television programs like “Person of Interest” and “90210,” as well as a Karl Lagerfeld runway show and NBC’s coverage of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

Along with their own headlining theater tours and concerts alongside Friendly Fires, Hundred Waters and The Big Pink, the musical trio has performed at several festivals, including the Matt Groening-curated All Tomorrow’s Parties in 2010, Coachella, Sasquatch Festival and Lollapalooza, among others.

For their most recent effort, 2012’s “Coexist,” the indie pop outfit expanded their ticket-buying base with post-dubstep EDM influences. Though mellow, these touches can be heard in the album’s first two singles, “Angels” and “Chained.”

  • XX in the rain

by NadineBoopster on 10/12/12Boulevard Pool at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

They were a great sport playing thru a light drizzle, but then it started pouring and the concert was cancelled. But the 3 or 4 songs they played was awesome. Hopefully they decide to come back for a do over. They should have gone on first.

  • Good show! Rained out 20 mins in :(

Great openning DJ set. There were some light sprinkling goin on, but as soon as the XX came on it started up some more. About 20 minutes into the set the rain got worse and the band walked off and canceled. Understandable. But, still a lot of dissapointed people. Overall they did well for as ling as it lasted.

  • The XX is absolutely incredible!

Although they were only able to play 30 minutes of their planned 75 minute show due to rain, those 30 minutes had me undeniably sold. Their performance was exactly like their studio album, and I couldn't believe what I was seeing and hearing at the same time. Unfortunately, this was their first Vegas show, and got rained off the stage. They still tried their hardest to stay up there as long as possible for us, and that's the most you could ask of them. I'm still giving them 5 stars due to them trying so hard to keep playing for us. The minute I see they are coming back to Vegas, I'm getting my tickets, and going. I cannot wait for that day.

  • rained out.

well, the concert was going great. John Talabot was amazing. i really got into their sound. a little before the xx started playing, i noticed a little drizzle going on. i thought to myself, wont be anything too bad. less than half way through their set, it got bad. they tried to use umbrellas to cover up all of their equipment from the rain while they were playing. well long story short, they ended the concert early... but other besides that, they were amazing live :)

Small, intamate, and beautiful venue. The sound quality was amazing and the show was breathtaking.

  • Dark, Strobey, no charisma.

There's no doubt that "The xx" can perform their songs pitch perfect. Identical in fact to the way that they sound when you listen to them in private. Thing is that you don't go to see a band perform live to hear it sound the same as when you listen at home... you go to see a performance and that is what "The xx" failed to deliver. First problem is that the performers were engulfed in darkness for the entire show... their faces only lit up incidentally by the odd stray beam from the projection. Not once did a spotlight give you a glimpse of their features. Add to this the over zealous strobe effects. If you were sat on the mezzanine level or above, the show was ruined by the inability to actually look at the stage without being blinded. After one song which had me covering my head with a jacket to avoid throwing up (it really did make me queasy,) I watched as a good 20 people left the show, unable to take more. The other disappointing aspect was that the band failed to communicate with the audience other than to say "thanks for coming Boston". Watching "The xx" live is akin to watching inexperienced, moody, shy teenagers performing. Albeit they know how to recreate their music... showmen they are not. Will I buy their next album?? Certainly. Will I ever go to see them live again?? Never.

  • Exquisite.

The xx was wonderful. Being one of my favorite bands, I may be a bit biased, but I thought they sounded even better live than they are recorded. The vocals and the music was great, and the small, intimate venue made it even better. Snug Harbor should definitely host more impromptu shows, the sound quality in there is amazing.

The xx was simply outstanding. They give an incredible performance. Romy, Jamie, and Oliver are all so talented. They sounded much like they did on their album. They recently finished recording their second album and decided to play some songs for us - they were beautiful. I can't wait to get my hands on an album! The venue was really cool as well. It was on Staten Island, and I know a lot of people were unhappy about that at first, but they all got over it after the concert. I wish more people would have concerts there! I live in Manhattan, so getting there was pretty simple - a subway, a ferry, and a very short walk. It took about the same amount of time to get to Staten Island as it would to get to parts of Brooklyn. I had a brilliant time. I love The xx even more now that I've seen them live. They're wonderful! I recommend them to anyone. Can't wait for their next tour!

  • The XX were INCREDIBLE!

by Tayyy on 8/8/12Music Hall at Snug Harbor Cultural Center - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

First of all, this was the most amazing, intimate venue to see this band. Highly recommend seeing them in a small venue. This really was unlike any concert I've ever been to. It was just about the music and everyone's personal experience with it. Everyone was seated the majority of the show and no one talked..which made the night all about The XX as it should have been. Their whispery voices were uninterrupted the entire time, which magnified the sound and experience. Towards the end, when things heightened, people stood up if they wanted or continued to sit. There was no pressure as to your preference. No judgement, just music. The XX played every song on their album and a few new ones from the new CD -- which I can tell is going to be amazing. Oliver and Romy's voices were so angelic and just as good -- if not better -- live as they are on the album. Oliver spoke to the crowd the most, and his voice is oh so sexy. Jaime killed it in the background, putting out instrumentals that took over your body. The light show and fog really added to the entire experience perfectly. The lights and the bass would boom simultaneously and impact the audience immediately. The entire night was so surreal, especially the encore -- Intro. My only complaint was that is was far too short!! But they only have one CD so can't really do much about that. This band is going to continue to do great things, and I can't wait to keep being a apart of it and seeing them live!!!

This was an amazing event. I can't even begin to describe the perfection of the xx. Their music will touch and twist your soul until you have goosebumps in between your toes. Cheers. Also, Snug Harbor...absolutely beautiful.

  • The perfect way to see the XX

by Anonymous on 8/8/12Music Hall at Snug Harbor Cultural Center - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

I'm so ridiculously enthusiastic about this show, I almost don't want to talk about it so it doesn't get ruined by the typical NYC hype. But everyone who put it on should know they did a phenomenal job. The place is a gem, a beautiful old theatre that even Oliver Sim was impressed by. And they went the extra mile, like giving everyone free rides from the ferry in party buses (!). Could have been cheesy, but it was such a surprise, it just made us feel like we were in for something special. We were. The sound was beautiful, the crowd was great, and clearly moved. It was small, intimate, and though I'm not usually a fan of seated concerts, for this, it was perfect. Can't remember the last time I was so close to an artist without being pressed against a crowd. The ethereal lightshow felt even cooler against the backdrop of this old-world theatre. At the end of the day, it was all about the XX who absolutely killed it, and Chairlift who were the perfect openers. As my friend put it, everyone in the crowd is now pregnant with Oliver Sim's babies.

  • The XX = Awesomesauce

    by chizog on 8/6/12Terminal 5 - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Terminal 5 although many people dislike this place I found to be very inviting. It was easy to access the bar and still have a good view of the music/surroundings. The XX was awesome... and the music wasn't soo loud I felt like I would be deaf for the rest of my life. All over, great show. Probably one of the top 10 I've seen.

Light and sound were really good. If you like xx then you would really like them live

  • Great band at a bad venue

    by MonkeySloot on 8/4/12Terminal 5 - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

The XX gave a great performance! The music sounded good, their lighting effects/ visuals were good, and they worked very well together. However, Terminal 5 sucked. A lot. Not a good venue. And the staff is incredibly rude. I would rather not come back to T5 in the future. I would for the XX though!

  • Lackluster and Short

    by Ryan01101010011 on 8/2/12Wilbur Theatre - BostonRating: 2 out of 5

The XX is a band that i was very excited to see live, as I have been listening to them since the release of their debut. I have pretty broad tastes in music, and believe that I have a pretty fair view about what makes a show good. I'm not a snob so every performance doesn't need to be magical for me to enjoy myself and have a good time, but my feelings, and those of my friends and the other people around me were all the same. The show was basically 3 people who could have been mannequins playing their music as though they hit play on a stereo, refused to really engage or even try to engage the audience. It honestly felt like there was some serious social anxiety going on, but even so, they could have engaged their own music a bit. The entire place seemed to just sort of stand around watching them. It was nice to hear some familiar songs, but it wasn't until the very end that THe xx showed any pulse whatsoever, and it was the first time dancing was even really possible. I finally got excited only to find out it was their last song. The feeling across the crowd was "Really, that's it, you're done already?". The last few songs were finally dance-able and they showed some liveliness, but it just wasn't enough ...... $40 not worth it, Maybe $15-20 max. They need to get it together

  • Dreamy and wonderful

Their first proper stop on their 2012 tour was incredible! The light show was simple but elegant and they sounded amazing.
