Four years after forming in a London school, The xx unleashed their 2009 eponymous debut via Young Turks. The 11-track collection not only earned accolades from critics across the globe, but it also scored the U.K.’s coveted Mercury Prize and landed the dream-pop band in the limelight stateside. Singles from their indie-label foray graced American television programs like “Person of Interest” and “90210,” as well as a Karl Lagerfeld runway show and NBC’s coverage of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
Along with their own headlining theater tours and concerts alongside Friendly Fires, Hundred Waters and The Big Pink, the musical trio has performed at several festivals, including the Matt Groening-curated All Tomorrow’s Parties in 2010, Coachella, Sasquatch Festival and Lollapalooza, among others.
For their most recent effort, 2012’s “Coexist,” the indie pop outfit expanded their ticket-buying base with post-dubstep EDM influences. Though mellow, these touches can be heard in the album’s first two singles, “Angels” and “Chained.”
Amazing night of live music. The venue was great and the xx was flawless in their performance.
This was my second time seeing The XX. The first time was during their tour for their first album, while I was vacationing in NYC. That was a great show! The XX has lost their magic, since their 1st CD. The 2nd CD doesn't feel the same. Live this time, they seemed pretentious, and over produced. Left the show, after The XX's 3rd or 4th song. Grizzly Bear was incredible!
The concert was awesome! It was great to finally see them perform live as I've often watched YouTube videos of their concerts. They did not disappoint! I love the sound quality, their on stage presence, and the laser show!!! My son and I had a great time! I prefer the outdoor concerts at LC Pavilion to the indoor, so this made for an incredible, summer evening.
the xx was amazing live and the grizzly bear was an excellent opening act. the lc pavilion is great. everything went smoothly.
This concert was awesome. The light show was great. So much fun!
Had a great time at the show. Grizzly Bearwas a lot better in person than on ipod. I was pleasantly surprised. Good show by them. The xx was great! They played all the jams. One after another. They sound really geat in person. I was really impressed. The sound was great . No complaints whatsoever. If they come back I will be there!
XX really put on a great show and I loved the lighting effects as well as their voices! : )
I was hesitant of seeing these two bands live, while I love them both I was worried about how their music would sound. Both are fairly mellow on their records, but I must say I'm happy my hesitation didnt stop me. They were amazing. I would see either gain immediately. The XX is absolutely mind blowing. Thanks for putting on a great show!
I only wish Grizzly Bear had played a longer set/ was headlining. And call me crazy but I found the xx really boring. It sounded like an atmospheric soundtrack to shooting up heroin.
Being at that show was surreal. It was a large event but felt to intimate and personal. Acoustics were perfect. The skyline of downtown Columbus in the distance made it all the more worthwhile. Grizzly Bear dazzled us with songs new and old, always kept us guessing and entranced. The XX finished the night off with a dreamy make-out session, lulling out drunk-minded-ness and kissed us sweetly on the cheek.
This concert was amazing. Knew about 4 songs from The Xx and fell IN LOVE with them even more after the show. Their stage presence, instrumentals, and lights all tied everything together to make an unforgettable show. Absolutely amazing!!!
definitely one of the best chows to ever come to Columbus.
I came solely for Grizzly Bear, but now I'm an XX fan. It's the best venue and best concert I've been to. I can't wait to come back! Any time lifestyle has Grizzly Bear, I will be there, no question.
Unbelievable. Like a dream. Grizzly bear was perfect. The xx had the best light show I've seen.
The XX put on the most entertaining show I've ever seen at a concert.
I was pretty bummed when I realized that grizzly bear was performing BEFORE the XX. While I truly enjoy the XX, I thought they were going to be too slow and low key to be headliners. I was very impressed they way they were able to pick up the tempo of their songs while still remaining true to their low key/ smooth song style. I don't want to say they remixed their own songs.. they just picked up the tempo and added more percussion/synth beats. I seriously like their live music better than the original now! Anyways.. overall very impressive and I would def see them again. Oh and Grizzly bear was amazing as expected.
Fantastic show from beginning to end! So happy we went!
Their music is nothing like anybody's done before, yet it is familiar in so many ways. The performance was outstanding. I would have liked it to be a little longer, they could easily do extended versions of a few of the songs. Also, I was a little disappointed with the sped up version of Intro, but still , overall it was a nice, relaxing and sonically pleasing evening, just what you want from an XX gig.
I was disappointed in Grizzly Bear. I have seen them years ago opening for Radiohead at Blossom in Cleveland, and this show didn't live up to that at all. It felt very bland and they didn't have that same energy they normally had. The XX, however, really put on a good show. Good use of lights and smoke, great songs. Would definitely see them again!
Great show, great venue. I love seeing shows at Bank of America Pavilion.
