Oliver writes and sings thought-provoking melodies and lyrics that transcend genre, Chris is a MONSTER on bass (upright and/or electric), and Jano is a master of the arsenal of instruments he plays. Together, they performed a show full of energy, pathos, and beauty that captivated the audience and made us an integral part of the whole experience. This was our ninth, and best, Wood Brothers show...here's to 10, 11, 12, ...
I've been to my share of concerts over the years. The Wood Brothers show at The Moore Theater in Seattle last Friday definitely qualifies as one of the best I've attended. The Wood Brothers were remarkably connected. Clearly, their experience in improvisational settings and jazz influences blend with the band's roots foundation in a unique and frankly difficult to categorize way. I'll admit that I really only knew a couple of the songs well going in (Sing About It and Luckiest Man), but every song played was genuinely engaging and musically interesting. The band's sustained level of performance was one of the best I've experienced. As a comparison, I'd rank this show with David Byrne's "American Utopia"tour from 2019 or so. IMHO, that was one of the best of the new millennium. If you have a chance to see these guys, do it. It's incredible really what they can generate as a trio. Jano Rix -- mind boggling what he can sonically accomplish playing drums and keyboards simultaneously. As an aside, my wife (who really had no idea who The Wood Brothers were initially) is now a new fan and has favorited the band on Spotify. LOL. Oh, and the opening act (the Rainbow Girls) was spot on as well. Well done team!
My boyfriend and his family are big fans of the Wood Brothers, and I’ve grown really fond of their music. My boyfriend saw they had a somewhat close by performance happening and kindly bought the tickets for us. This was his third time seeing The Wood Brothers, and after that concert, I can definitely understand why. They not only perform incredible music that makes you want to move your feet and sway to the beat, but they put on a show. Their dancing is incredible, they were all so kind while talking in between songs, and their performance shows how well they know their instruments. I absolutely loved this concert and have not stopped talking about it with all my friends. I was blown away by their talent and musical skills. If you have not seen The Wood Brothers in concert before, and you enjoy a wonderful performance by incredibly talented musicians with amazing music, I highly recommend to hop on the opportunity to see The Wood Brothers perform. This was the first time I have attended their concert, and it definitely won’t be the last.
These guys crossed my radar not long ago, and when they came to town I thought I would give them a shot. They play a wide variety of music which kept the audience engaged. I think they were listed as country, but that is a small portion of the show. Definitely rocked some songs and the few funk items they did were stellar. Well worth the price of admission
This concert was wonderful. A group of friends attended this and I am sure we could not have had any more fun. I really liked the venue too!
What an amazingly talented group. Truly authentic musicians pouring their heart and soul into their craft. I love the Charleston Music Hall. Only room for improvement would have been a standing General Admission versus seated. Other than that, the sound quality and production value were top notch.
A friend wanted to see the Wood Bros and I went along. The first song or two was not so notable. Then, after awhile, I started seeing why my friend wanted to see them. They're hard to pigeonhole into one category, because they meander around styles and genres effortlessly. Their musicianship is on point, but at once I was impressed by their vocal talents. At times, I imagined I was at a Three Dog Night concert. Their powerful voices never broke and the family harmonizing is hard to beat. I'm ready to see them again.
The Wood Brothers are superb songwriters, expert musicians with deep soul, and the best touring live act since the Grateful Dead … no joke. My opinion only of course, but it’s the same level of goosebumpy musical moments at the shows and a psychic buzz that last for hours afterward …. God Bless the Wood Brothers
Love the Wood Brothers! Was an incredible and inspiring show!
Heard Maya n August and fpund both her show inspirational! She did not disappoint. The Wood Brothers were a very different group and played for 2 Hours. I enjoyed all 2 hours of the show!!
Jano Rix is so talented. To be able to play a significant beat on the drums while simultaneously playing the keyboard is unheard of. Chris Wood is awesome on Bass and an incredible dancer. And Oliver holds it all together with his guitar and vocals.
Amazing show as always!! Very talented musicians!!
Outstanding! Engaging! Entertaining! Musical euphoria! Thank you wood brothers. Won’t be my last wood brothers show!
The Wood Brothers are always a great show! Super talented and engaging. I don't know if this was the best venue for the event. It is beautiful, and all seated. The Wood Brothers music makes you want to get up and dance...because there were empty seats in front of us, a group came and stood in the seated area, dancing robustly the entire time. Folks behind us were talking non-stop. The show would have been great, if not for the crowd not caring about others around them.
I've seen the Wood Brothers many times. I've never been disappointed until the 10/27/23 show. The warmup band was a total downer. She talked about her 92 year old grandmother, and how baby elephants are tied by tiny ropes, and they just obey. Not "warmup"band material. Depressing. The warm up band did play a couple songs with Wood Brothers, and that was really good (no talking about depressing stuff). Then, The Wood Brothers played mostly from their new album, which by all accounts doesn't seem to be as catchy and crowd pleasing as the old stuff. They played a few of the older songs later in the show, but didn't play Loaded, Postcards from Hell, Alabaster, Happiness Jones, River Takes the Town etc. I'll think twice about paying the price for 2nd row seats going forward.
This is our 6th time seeing the Wood Brothers. Probably one of the best venues and crowds we have been part of. Definitely will check out other shows at this venue. Penn's Peak - if you have not been - check it out!!
I love that the Wood Brothers play smaller venues. The show felt intimate and personal. The pre band was awesome (the warm up is not always!). I also love that they do a 1 mic song or two. My only criticism this time (this is my 3rd time) was that when they did the si glow mic they had their backs to everyone except the very middle of the room. Other than that, awesome as usual!
We really enjoyed the show & I hope to see them again before long.
Very talented band with an amazing catalog of music. All three musicians were outstanding.
