Enjoyable Through the Fog of Nostalgia

by Whiny McGee on 5/18/19The Wilbur - Boston

I was going to give the show a pass until I found out that they would be performing The Completion Backward Principle in its entirety, which is one of my favorite albums, so I couldn't resist going. The band (with Fee Waybill still on vocals and three of the original members) did a great job of recapturing some of the magic, but there's no doubt that many decades have passed which lent an air of melancholy to the proceedings. Along with The Completion Backward Principle, the band played other hits and a couple of good deep tracks. The audience was okay - we're all old now, so probably not as lively as in our heyday, though there was one guy jumping around until he tripped and fell, which was a bit distracting (though not as distracting as the loud woman at the table next to me). It was a nice night, but probably the last time I'll catch them. A fond farewell, as it were.

The Tubes played The Completion Backward Principle Album from start to finish along with several of their other hits and a David Bowie cover. High energy and very entertaining.

    A blast as always

by Colin on 5/18/19The Wilbur - Boston

The Tubes’ catalog of songs is so eclectic that it’s impossible to label, but many don’t realize just how damn GOOD every one of their songs is, regardless of genre. Combine that with five really, really gifted musicians, and you can’t go wrong. This show was an absolute joy to see and hear, and I’ll continue to see their shows whenever they’re in New England. Roger Steen and Prairie Prince belong in the top third of rock/pop musicians bar none.

    The inimitable completion backward principle

    by Z. V. on 4/17/19The Canyon Montclair - Montclair

The tubes were great. Considering the missing members, songs were played encompassing their history with Suffragette City added to WPOD for extra effect. THe surprise What do you want from Life all the way through to Piece by Piece from Love Bomb, I want it all now from remote control Mondo Bondage blew my wife's mind. Highly entertaining! Thank you Fee and group for providing us with another memorable experience that will not soon be forgotten!

    show of a lifetime

by Mik on 4/16/19The Rose - Pasadena

if you haven’t seen The Tubes in the flesh, have fun dying under that rock of yours. this was the best live show i’ve ever treated myself to. they haven’t missed a single beat, i’ve had my mind blown out of my skull and back into that of a heavenly being after experiencing mondo bondage and subsequently Quay. guitar, drums, bass and keys have tickled my bones and cured all my ails. i drove six hours to see them and i would go to the ends of the earth to see them again.

    why come early?

    by j. a. on 4/15/19The Rose - Pasadena

bought a table seat and was told to arrive between 6 and 7 PM. Two barely tolerable opening acts. Last opening act finished around 845 and the tubes did not come on until almost 10 PM. My first time at the Rose and probably the last.

Playing all the songs you love and sharing the irreverence they are known for with the exuberant energy of the young punks we all once were!

    The Tubes still rock

by IndianMage on 4/4/18The Rose - Pasadena

I saw The Tubes a minimum of 20+ times back in the early 80's when they (finally) broke through with Talk To You Later - they were one of the greatest shows I'd ever seen. Today, they appear to have stripped down the theatrics, embraced their punk-ish roots and turned up the volume...and put on a very good show. Leaning heavily on songs from Remote Control (probably in response to all the "fake news" being reported) they began with Getoverature, slipped into TV is King and never really looked back. Yes, I missed the "show" they used to put on (like the police chase through Mr. Hate) but Fee and Co. took the simple props they had and used them to great effect (my friends and I are probably the few people who saw them after Fee had quit and hired a new guy {David} and went on the road strictly as a "band" - nothing but music). My only real complaint: someone turned up the treble (as well as the volume) and some of the songs suffered from piercing highs - a couple of songs actually hurt my ears. The Tubes were never a "hits" band - yes, they played the radio stuff, and touched on almost all phases of their career (Golden Boy from Now was great - but nothing from Love Bomb?...a very underrated album). So if you're looking for an awesome night of music, go see these guys. Also - I do miss Spooner, Welnick and Cotton...

    Prime Time with The Tubes

by nomenewt on 1/30/18The Canyon Santa Clarita - Santa Clarita

Love this band because they never have taken themselves that seriously. Played almost everything I wanted to hear except some of the Re Styles songs. Played 2 hours which is very impressive for men in their late sixties. Fee Waybills interaction with the crowd was good and he looks much healthier then the last time I saw them. Did meet and greet after concert. Pretty nice guys.

    So fun!

by misclee on 3/28/17The Canyon - Agoura Hills

This was my first time seeing them and I was so impressed! What a great time! So much energy and fun. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because they sang several songs I didn't know.

    TUBES KNOCK OUT!!!!!!!!!

by J4STONE on 2/28/17Thunder Valley Casino Resort - Lincoln

Had not seen them since the 70's. Brilliant! High energy! And as expected entertaining and funny. Waybill, although blessed with face made for radio, is still a dynamic performer. Musicianship par excellence. Highlight, there were many, was the covers slid in while Fee was changing costumes. A great rendition of 60"s TV theme Route 66 and a driving cover of the Mothers of Invention song Trouble Coming Everyday. the audience was definitely engaged and sang along loudly to al the hits. when they played White Punks On Dope it was apparent that the Punks can still rock. The encore closed with a killer version of Talk To You Later. Left satisfied, thrilled and tired, ears ringing. BRAVO!
