  • The Thorn Production

by BW on 10/5/25Mershon Auditorium - ColumbusRating: 4 out of 5

Enjoyed the show. Great message. Good performance and excellent talent of the dancers and actors. Good venue at Mershon. Advice is don't purchase the parking pass…..price gouging! $72 from them; same thing for $20 at the parking garage.

  • A Christian Enlightenment

by Brenda-a Child of God on 10/5/25Mershon Auditorium - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

THORN was a wonderful rendition to remind us what Christ did and suffered on the cross for all of us. It was mixed with beautiful dancers, great scenery, a funny narrator ("John who Jesus loved"). It was a real blessing for all who are saved and an eye opener for anyone who isn't. This was a wonderful show!!!!!

The stage production of The Thorn was absolutely fascinating! Handicapped seating at the Mershom Auditorium was great. We had great visual of the stage and easy access!

  • Lose the sales pitch for missionary work

by Sally on 10/4/25Mershon Auditorium - ColumbusRating: 4 out of 5

I was disappointed that this was a Christian version of Shen Yun. What I mean by that is that both events boast of the theatrics and that holds true for about the first 20-30 min. Then it’s just repeat artistry. Both events have embedded “propaganda” designed to convert folks to believers. At the Columbus Ohio event of the Thorn, they used a huge portion of intermission with a ministry sales pitch including a video for sponsoring a child at around $500/yr. I’m glad I attended but I was disappointed at the hidden agendas. I was hoping for a modern Jesus Christ Superstar and it didn’t deliver.

  • Phenomenal

by HSP on 10/4/25Mershon Auditorium - ColumbusRating: 4 out of 5

Wonderful. The only negative / warning I would give is that they put way too many lights, strobes directly into the audience eyes. You miss a lot of the performance because you can’t see it. I left the performance moved and loved it but I also left with a migraine due to the lighting. The effects were fantastic. It was just when the lights were shone directly at the audience.

  • WOW! Superb, outstanding, spectacular!

This play is the best play I have ever seen, and I have seen some really good ones! It was mesmerizing, brilliant, flawless, such talent! It was extremely well coordinated, every aspect of it! I'm looking into where I will try to go see it next year. Unfortunately, it it is not playing near me but I'm willing to travel!

  • The Thorn

by Fluffy on 10/1/25Embassy Theatre - Fort WayneRating: 5 out of 5

Wonderful! Creative and beautiful storytelling of Jesus Christ with images that remain in my head and heart. I highly recommend people see it. I agree that young children shouldn’t see it; it’s too heavy for impressionable minds.

Very good show. Watch the video clips of it and then watching it was a awesome show that was seeing. How Jesus walk this earth and how Satan was going to destroy him. But the Lord almighty love for us showed Satan he is with us. You have to watch it to see the laughs the crys and the Power of Jesus

  • Extraordinary experience

by Goshen on 10/1/25Embassy Theatre - Fort WayneRating: 5 out of 5

The story is timeless. The actors are gifted. The dancers are wonderful athletes. The lighting and music truly set the tone. It was a compelling and transformative experience for us, and the message of the Gospel was clear.

  • Over the top- the Big Top

by Skipper on 9/30/25Embassy Theatre - Fort WayneRating: 3 out of 5

I was expecting something a bit different. This was lots of repetitive twirling and rolling down and swinging on the trapeze rope, some sloppy theology, sound sometimes too loud to hear and understand, great sets and back digital/visual scenes, and a half-hour commercial, BESIDES the potty break. The message of salvation was clear, but almost hokey/sacreligious at the end. I had no idea what was happening on Golgatha/Calvary with different individuals coming up. It seemed to require some theologians to review and edit the information first. The techno-digital, audio-visual scenery, and moving sets were flawless- without a hitch. I was exhausted and tired, waiting for it to end. The Gospel from a firehose with strobe, fog, and haze, trying to entertain and improve on the greatest story ever told.

  • Absolutely AMAZING

by Angie on 9/30/25Embassy Theatre - Fort WayneRating: 5 out of 5

This show touched my heart! The story line really followed the Bible which I appreciated. John’s humor and the way he told the story was very well done. The crucifixion tore me up! It was so real that I broke into tears, it made me want to shout STOP! So grateful to have experienced this show in my own town.

  • Good, but not great.

by Mister B on 9/30/25Embassy Theatre - Fort WayneRating: 3 out of 5

First let me start with the positives. The visual production was amazing. It looked spectacular. The cast was really good. The aerobatics were incredible. The John the baptizer scene was technologically impressive. We went in with expectations very high from the advertisements. Maybe be we are spoiled from seeing other passion play productions like "The Promise"and "His Life", or watching "The Chosen"series, but we just didn't have an emotional connection to the characters. I think because Jesus and his desciples (except for old man John, who narrated it), never spoke. How can you have a production about Jesus without hearing him teach? We didn't get to know any of the characters, except for John. Most of the desciples were not even talked about. My wife and I usually are very emotional when it comes to the telling the greatest story ever told. We brought tissues with the assumption we would need them. Sadly we did not. Also the pacing was rather strange. Three times we watched a scene play out, only to be followed by old man John coming out and telling us about what we just watched. It was so redundant. Too much time wasted, while important events skipped over. No Jesus walking on the water (which could have been incredible after watching the John the baptizer scene). No raising Lazarus from the dead. It almost seems like we saw Satan on stage more than Jesus. Early on there was a female voiceover, but the music was so loud we could hardly hear it. It almost felt like it was a new production that hadn't worked everything out yet. But it's been around for 15 years. I have seen other productions on Jesus and have gone back and watched them multiple times. The Thorn is worth seeing, but we have no desire to watch it again. I get that this is intended to be something different than other productions. I admire the attempt, work and dedication that has obviously gone into this production. May God bless the Bolins for sharing the gospel.
