    Soul Rebels Spectacular!!

by DonnyMac on 3/13/20Port City Music Hall - Portland

What an absolutely amazing show at PCMH! The musicianship was just off the charts. Whether it was instrumentals or vocals, these guys are breathtaking. Very reminiscent of Trombone Shorty. Don't miss a chance to catch them, you won't be disappointed!

    More Kweli, less indistinguishable noise.

I guess My expectations weren't high for a $25 concert but I left disappointed anyways. First off, the tickets said it was an 8oclock show. Showed up at 8:30 expecting a hype DJ to be on and the place was almost completely empty. Hype DJ started around 9 and the Soul Rebels came on around 9:30ish. They were good, but the venue didn't do their sound any justice. They played for an hour or so and Talib came on at that point. The band was so loud and the venue just wasn't acoustically well prepared, I found it hard to hear ANY of the lyrics. Anyone who is a fan of Kweli knows that his soul is in his words. He played a few songs and I couldn't even tell what songs he was playing half the time (and I've been a HUGE fan since 2002 or so). I ended up leaving around 11:30, before the whole show was completed.
