Formed over two decades ago, the funk six-piece The Motet have learned to work as an interlocking unit, with each member bolstering one another towards the best creative output. This symbiosis has led to a unique style and cohesive musical chemistry, as seen in the band's immaculate live performances and seamless blend of funk, soul, jazz, and rock. With a fervent fanbase in tow, The Motet have sold out shows across the nation, performed six headlining slots at Red Rocks and sets at festivals such as Bonnaroo, Bottlerock, Electric Forest, Bumbershoot, Summer Camp, and High Sierra.
But even after their 20+ years of accolades and recognition, the legendary outfit - composed of Dave Watts (drums), Joey Porter (keys), Garrett Sayers (bass), Drew Sayers (keys and saxophone), Ryan Jalbert (guitar), and new singer Sarah Clarke - are still exploring new sonic ideas and finding new ways to showcase each other's skill sets.
The band released their 10th studio album, All Day, in January 2023 - an eclectic instrumental voyage threaded by the infectious grooves and immaculate, layered arrangements that The Motet have become known for.
Now with vocal powerhouse Sarah Clarke in tow, the band continues their journey with new songs and fresh arrangements of Motet classics.

The Motet 3/8/25. This band out of Denver, CO is filled with highly skilled musicians led by drummer Dave Watts. They are all amazing and especially the bass player Garrett Sayers brought some serious stank. They bring a funky, soulful sound and showcase a powerhouse singer along with their airtight grooves. It was a dance party from start to finish. Openers The Urban Renewal Project were also definitely up to speed with their enjoyable set.
This band plays every rarely in our area, as they are based in Boulder, Colorado, so they have away been high on my bucket list. Playing at the fun dance roo in Davis Square, Somerville, left room for a large crowd to dance, bounce and groove to this entertaining sextet. It was high-energy, strong grooves, ad nice people all around. The staff and venue were friendly and helpful, and it sees to be a great place to dance and hang out. I hope they come back soon !
The energy this band radiates is amazing. My third time enjoying this group and it won’t be my last
The Motet put on an amazing show! I danced the whole time. The Atlantis was a great, intimate venue for this show.
If you get a chance to see The Motet, do it! Great band and a fun evening for sure!
The Motet is a well-oiled phunq machine. The musicians are all at the top of their game and the groove is infectious. The venue is very intimate and perfect if you enjoy watching the magic as it happens.
Great show - adding the new singer took it over the top.
