About

The Smashing Pumpkins are one of the most influential alt-rock bands of the ’90s. Billy Corgan formed the band in 1988 with guitarist James Iha. In the 1990s alone, the band released classic albums like the four-time platinum Siamese Dream (1993) — which was ranked by Rolling Stone as one of the greatest albums of all time — and the double album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (1995), which debuted at No.1 on Billboard 200 and produced hit singles like “1979” and “Tonight, Tonight.” The Smashing Pumpkins have toured with acts like the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Guns N’ Roses. They’ve made guest appearances on The Simpsons, won two GRAMMY Awards and have sold over 30 million albums.

First time seeing them. Billy Corgan stayed interactive with the crowd and was very funny. Also played very well and played a good mix of songs.

    The Newport Rawked

by dpd653 on 7/10/10Newport Music Hall - Columbus

Great show last night at the Newport. The Band looked loose and fresh. I noticed Billy smiling and exchanging glances with Jeff most of the night. Billy got a kick out of a set list got stuck to his shoe and Jeff had to step on it to get it off. It got re-taped between the next song. They played a nice selection of new and old SP. Off the top of my head they rocked Hummer and Today for old school pumpkins. Ava Adore, Stand inside your love, Tonight Tonight and a kick ass version of Bullet. Then the new stuff off of Kelidescope like a stitch in time and freak (among several other songs). Mike is one HELL of a drummer. I know we all loved JC but Mikey drums with power and authority. He is a stud. And what else is to say about the 4 some other than Nicky Fiorentino is way smoking hot (my wife even agreed)...

    The Smashing Pumpkins were amazing!

by Lynndow on 7/10/10Newport Music Hall - Columbus

The Smashing Pumpkins are back and the chemistry of the band is tight! Mike Bryne is a natural drummer and you watch this 20 year old's talent shine. Nicole Fiorentino seems to sync well with Bryne on drums and is definetly a plus for the band. Jeff Schroeder and Billy Corgan seemed together and achieved crowd involvement with mentioning the Halloween show of 2008. The band also played part of "Hang on Sloopy" to achieve fans singing parts of "Widow Wake My Mind". This concert was a good mixture of old and new Smashing Pumpkins songs. If you are a new or faithful fan, this show comes recommended. The only down side was that the stage lighting was aimed at the audience, not on the band. The band itself was primarily in the dark on the stage and you could not see the band members actually play their instruments and truly enjoy their muscianship and talent.

    Amazing show!

by sbanara on 7/10/10Newport Music Hall - Columbus

This was my third time seeing Smashing Pumpkins and I would have to say it was one of my favorite shows! I thought the set was amazing and Billy's vocals sounded great. I love Newport as a classic concert venue but would have loved to have seen them do another outdoor show at the LC. We had a great time!

    Worth the price of admission

by Safe on 7/10/10Newport Music Hall - Columbus

Great show. I am a fan of the band's earlier work, and haven't paid much attention since Zwan disbanded. So I was only familiar with about 50% of the set list. I still enjoyed tremendously the songs I did know, as well as the songs I didn't.

    Billy was forgettable

by WordUpG on 7/10/10Newport Music Hall - Columbus

Not the performance I was hoping for. Hardly any old school material. Too much noise not enough vocals, you could tell he really wasn't into his performance....what happened to you Billy??!!

    Billy beat the odds

by WaywardPilot on 7/10/10Orbit Room - Grand Rapids

The Pumpkins are my favorite band, and excellent performers, there was no way they could put on a bad show, but i'll be damned if the Orbit Room and the first two bands didn't try. to begin, doors did not open until an hour after advertised, at which point the first band immediately began playing, which meant that given the line's crawling pace; you could arrive early and still miss some of the concert. This turned out to be a good thing though because that first band was bat city, not only did they not fit at all with the pumpkins, they lacked any musical talent, at the end of their set, the toe-headed vocalist grabbed their flag (they have their own flag) and pretentiously waved it as though anyone was there to see them. The second band, Kill Hannah, started out decently, with plenty of distortion and thundering drums, until this little elf of indiscriminate gender jumped out onto the stage and began whining about strobe lights, morphine, and wanting to be a Kennedy. This creature was pretty androgynous, but i suspected it was Hannah, and i did want to kill it. the most applause kill hannah got was when they mentioned the pumpkins. The Pumpkins rocked the house. they simply rocked. even though they opened the show with a song from the new album (Astral Planes) that no one knew, seeing them play was amazing. They sounded better live and improvised very well. to be frank, it was really just Billy people had come to see, without him it was just a cover band. There were a handful of songs that i had been sure they would play, like 1979, disarm, Zero, and rocket, but that didn't matter, the experience was magical. If anything the lackluster moments in the night just make me want to see them again, hopefully without those moments.

    The Pumpkins were 'Smashing'

by Chrisothoulo on 7/9/10Orbit Room - Grand Rapids

The show was great. The band had a great energy.. Busted out a lot of classics, and a bunch of new tunes as well.. They sounded great. The crowd was really really into it. Could not ask for a better show.. and at a small venue too? the Orbit room is a perfect place for a concert. Glad they played there. I drove 2 hours to get there and would do it again. Great Job BC and the Pumpkins

Incredible performance, Billy still has it.

by falkormom on 7/9/10Orbit Room - Grand Rapids

I was towards the front of the main floor. I can't see how anyone could write a bad review about this concert. Billy's voice seemed to be better and more in tune than any time I've seen their videos before. He also seemed happy too, which made the crowd even more rowdy and pumped for what was to come. The whole band seemed to work together perfectly. I've become a big "Pumpkinhead" over the last 2 or so years, and I couldn't complain one bit about the amazing setlist. Overall, I think it's safe to say, this is one of the best intimate concerts I've ever seen.

    Corgan rules

by bxelent on 7/9/10Orbit Room - Grand Rapids

So, anybody that remembers SP from the early 90's as medium-light synth-pop needs to get out and see Corgan on tour. He and the band rock. period.
