Performance was OK, rating more targets Venue
by Mark W. on 10/17/23The Vogel at Count Basie Center for the Arts - Red BankRating: 2 out of 5The band was like most any bar band; music was good, vocals OK. Bass feedback at times overshadowed the music and vocals. The digital displays of news events during the era kept everyone engaged with the songs presented, so that was a nice added feature. The Vogel however was uncomfortable. In previous events, table arraignments and seating presented more of a lounge or orchestra club feeling. For this event, it was more about getting as much seating in as possible. Tables set perpendicular to the stage causing everyone to adjust their seats during the show. Just set up chairs across the floor and omit the tables? Or, if getting as much money as possible is the case, have artists perform in the Basie theater. I'd rather pay a bit more to have that lounge feeling in the way the venue was built. And, for two-hour plus performances, the high-top chairs are rather uncomfortable for that length of time.
